Ingrained into my youth. As with frech romantik. Fluke of fate that I lived beside SU and Frederick Beiser? Read enough Novalis to account for it.

Kleiber was a great conductor; as great as any.
He was also an incredible eccentric who didn't take care of such good care of himself; he aged badly and died young for someone in this field.
Still, he knew what he was doing and he did it quite superbly; he had firm musical instincts and convictions, tremendous knowledge and fine taste of what was proper for an orchestra to "get across."
A very, very fine, if not great conductor, indeed!

I detect an Argentinian-Spanish accent in his German (which makes sense since he was raised in Buenos Aires). Am I not right?

Saludos.

@@Quotenwagnerianer Yes you are right there: to complicate matters, he was educated here in the United Kingdom for quite a while and also spoke very good English.

(sorry) use of a ballerina wife, to study the way dancers communicate with the energy around their gestures, "pushing" the air, feeling the music with your hands?

    darkprose--
    It's an opinion.
First of all, look at what he looked like as he aged; people generally don't look as old as this now-a-days; I guess your powers of observation aren't so good.
Secondly, symphony conductors generally live to be rather old with with rather long and quite active careers; Kleiber obviously didn't.
Your questioning me this way strikes me as being rather wankerous.
