Ah yes this love hate relationship was done in the time before Scott enjoyed the hell out of Fire Emblem Engage.

As an rpg guy, this video ruled! I get that it can be hard to enjoy RPGs, especially with the wrong gaming background or mindset. But hey, Scott did his best to sing the praises of RPGs- and came out with a conclusion of still giving them a shot despite not loving them

They're good stoner games. Just sitting back, immersed in the world, watching your favorite characters get stronger as you guide the setting and plot, jamming out to a killer soundtrack, unconcerned with reflex; it's a good way to spend a smokey Sunday afternoon.

I love RPGs but they're the only game style that eventually make me start falling asleep after a bit of playing.
Lufia 2 had a major impact over here; an absolute classic. Rented it numerous times back in the day. The first one is pretty good too.
I started playing RPGs on the super Nintendo. FF2,3, Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG when I hung out at my friend's house all the time. My first console was a gameboy pocket which I played Zelda Links Awakening and Pokémon Yellow. My brother's got Dragon Warrior Monsters and I got my own copy after. Dragon Warrior/Quest has been my bread and butter after that moment. I'll always be a big JRPG fan.
The way he described how much he liked platformers is like me with Fighters. Both are very simple and easy to pick up but hard to master

The people that hate RPG's are the same people that hate any movie that's not MCU with all it's trash CGI and bottom of the barrel stories and dialog
RPG aren't gonna be for everyone. But than again, you can argue the same to the people that don't like platformers or fighting or FPS or racing or sports. Any genre.
Agree with every word of this video
Even after owning, playing, and loving Dragon Warrior as a kid, for years I felt the same as Scott; as if I was too dumb to play RPGs. It felt good to back to something as nuts as Wizardry as an adult.
We had the same upbringing but 3 years ago I fell deep in a JRPG hole and I’m not out yet
Definitely one of Scott’s opinions I agree with the most
YO HOLY SHIT DAT THE DUNK-MAN?!!
In old pokemon games, i hated the random trainers that randomly battled you on your way somehwere. I avoided them like the black plague. In Scarlet and Violet, since i have to initiate it, I go out of my way to find these trianers and fight every single one of them
There's a hack of Pokemon... Red I think it is that gives you a knife. You can stab NPCs and they permanently die. Makes getting past trainers a lot easier.
Isn’t that a bit hypocritical?
@@madnessarcade7447 no
i agree completely
for me i’m a fan of rpg’s, at a distance. in other words, i like specific final fantasy’s and the persona series.
i’m surprised i fell out of love with turn-base as i grew up playing pokémon.
Its not to make you think are the characters. WRPGs you do that. In JRPGs you control the cast.
I used to hate turn based RPGs but as i get older i enjoy them it started for me with the two recent south park games the stick of truth and the fractured butt hole both are great fun and even parodys gaming tropes
I've been out of highschool longer then scott has been alive.
One of my first ever games was Pokemon Blue so rpg is kinda baked into my existence.

Now we need Dunkey and Scott to make a Gex discussion video
i feel like a documantary style of video would fit well with that kind of video for some reason
Man I’ve been playing RPGs for a while now, and I agree 😂😅
No one tell him Like a Dragon 7, an RPG mind you, has an arcade inside it
as an rpg guy this video was awesome i love them for the same reasons scott hates them.
Outside of Pokémon, it took me a long while to start getting engaged in RPGs. Xenoblade was what finally hooked me. Now, I'm enjoying all sorts of RPGs, but they definitely aren't for everyone.
Scott: I’m not an RPG guy
Also Scott: I love Fire Emblem Engage
I’ve definitely enjoyed my fair share of Action RPG’s, but not really the standard type, but I feel like I should branch more out my comfort zone, so I’ve got titles like Persona 5 royal and Final Fantasy 10/10 -2, so I’m definitely hoping I can get some enjoyment out of them.
Persona 5 royal was the game that made me enjoy turn base rpgs and it has became a life changing game for me I'm not even joking on this. I highly recommend their but don't expect every turn based game to be that good of quality. I would also recommend dragon quest 11s for a traditional style turn based rpg.
Between Persona 5 Royal (or at least any Persona game), Chrono Trigger, and Mother 3, which is the best RPG?
@@Loner098Chrono Trigger is my favorite one but more because of nostalgia and because CT is one of those games that just gets everything right, the story is nothing mindblowing but it works very well, the gameplay is great, the soundtrack is a masterpiece, the spritework is great, CT has almost or no boring moments (this game's pacing is great), probably the best New Game + of all time, you can have different endings based in certain choices(without NG + just three different endings, game over on the final boss ending and a bonus ending for the DS Version), Akira Toriyama Artwork and it's just an enjoyable game.
But Persona 5 The Royal is way better story wise, the only problem is that there is an arc in the game that taints a lot the story's greatness and there is some characters that deserved more highlights on the main story, but other than that, i'd recommend P5R.
@nonewingedren4303 Alright, time to rant here a bit (credited by @JJ_R): they really kinda didn't execute Morgana's little identity crisis drama as well as one would think. You pretty much also can't do anything during the beginning of the Okumura arc because the player just can't function properly without Morgana. If there was something that the player was allowed to do, why not have them, like, work out to prepare themselves in case if Morgana was in danger or make infiltration tools, but nope; can't even decorate the room a little without him.
Not only that, but Okumura's Palace just doesn't very organic in comparison either. We never see Okumura Foods employees in the real world; only from implied reviews the game mentions. The only thing we see of them are robots. That was not the case in any of the other Palaces; we saw Shujin students suffer in both the real world, Kamoshida's Palace, Kaneshiro's Palace, and we even saw at least one of Madarame's pupils in dire staits in and out of his Palace. Futaba could have been the exception since she was the only one suffering from her own Palace. But even then, we saw her suffering in the real world as well. Here, though? There is no view of an Okumura Foods employee suffering in the real world. We don't see them overworked. We don't see them complain in the real world. We don't see them, period! This all lends itself to an overarching problem that this is Morgana's arc since most of the attention is focused on him, despite the game's efforts in justifying our heroes actions, which also makes this arc feel rushed. It's especially prominent when you consider the fact that Haru basically had her introduction ruined by Morgana's BS drama.
Ranting aside, what did you think of Mother 3 (the unlocalized sequel to Mother 2/EarthBound)?

You see, you can't like something about one and dislike that same thing about another game because that would make you a hypocrite.
As we all know, there is no such thing as good or bad execution or different genres that completely change everything
Can't do turn-based rpgs. It's going through a file system, clicking, watch something happen, then wait while the other side goes through a file system....
Literally the only RPG's I ever enjoyed were the Paper Mario games and Undertale
I realized I wasn't an RPG guy when I tried to play Earthbound after playing Undertale. It took me 3 tries until I realized that the turn based combat was putting me off. They both hsve it, yes, but Undertale at least turns the enemy's turn into a bullet hell mini game and that made it way more bearable.
I noticed he talked about platforms for a good 5 mins lol
Other than Pokemon Red, Blue, Gold and Silver (fell out of it after that)...I really didn't play RPG's when I was younger, just didn't appeal to me. It wasn't until we got Kingdoms of Amalur on PS+ for PS3 in 2013 that I decided to give it a shot, get out of my comfort zone a bit....and that was that, been an RPG fan ever since. I do prefer Action RPG's or something like Mass Effect that's more lore driven, but a good turn based one is fine every now and then.
basically will give pokemon over a million chances but not other rpgs
Personally I think they should remove items u have to collect and side quests u have to do in turn based side quests. It makes it way too busy otherwise. I feel if they have to add all that in should be in real time hack and slash free roaming open world only. That way it makes sense and is easier to manage instead of crammed into and bogging down what is supposed to be a simple yet intuitive and gameplay complex art that is turn based where completion feels best vwing beat the game u complete it.
I gotta agree with Scott here on a lot of this. The only real RPGs I actually play are the Fallout games and elder scrolls as well
Always preferred platformers but really enjoying hogwarts legacy
RPG's aren't my bread and butter but I will play one on occasion. One I hated was Lost Odyssey. When it forced me to listen to balling children for far too long it was the end of the road 😆
Ouch!
It's equally refreshing and distressing to see someone like this with completely different tastes and opinions in gaming than myself. Like holy crap the whole video I disagreed with almost everything and related to none of it. Hate 2D platfomers and love turn-based RPGs more than anything. I strongly disagreed with almost every opinion in this video and that's honestly interesting. Not an insult, just an observation. Different opinions are healthy in general
Can you do a video tutorial for yahtzee
I've said it since they first announced Final Fantasy XI, why isn't it it's own series? And, now I know for sure, I'm not the only one. Why make a game not every can or wants to play part of the main line series. Complete madness.
I Consider Poker A Turn-Based RPG.
When it comes to RPG'S, I wanted to play something that is simple and easy to understand and not overly complicated and bored that makes it so hard to get into; which unfortunately alot of RPG'S has been doing these days. I wanted where I can follow the story telling, the adventure and many other gameplay department very well without making things so mind numbing and very poetic, while at the same time delivers some good complex & challenge. In this case, the Mario RPG'S are the perfect examples of that. Others like Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest are also pretty serviceable and are easy to get into.
I’m not into rpgs usually but I really enjoy hogwarts legacy I love the world that has been built
@therunawaykid6523 Never played that. Than again, I'm not really an big Harry Potter fan. But I'll take your word for it.
Real.
Well back in the 80s you could play the original Zelda or Dragon Warrior/Final fantasy. I liked Dragon Warrior because it was slower paced and you could do homework, or skateboard and come back to it. We used to play games very casually and really do other stuff. Life was a little bit of an RPG back when. I'd walk to the library but purposely walk through the park just to see if I could run into a friend or enemy or see a girl. We had no stranger danger back then used to be a guy in a trench coat with pet rats he used to show kids. 😂.
Oh god, i played so much Klax. I dont remember anything else about the game except that I feel an enormous amount of time was wasted.
I love the idea of turn based RPGs… LOVE the idea… the graphics, the aesthetic, the music… but have just never truly been able to enjoy turn based combat, and the stories just don’t tend to really grab me unfortunately… major exception being Earthbound.
Can someone explain the reupload?
