at this point when I see these demos it's akin to armed robbery. I have no option but to fork over the cash. thanks Andy. my daughter can't have princesses on her bandaids. my dogs eat store brand puppy chow. I'm back to using basic Colgate tooth paste and my wife has to buy off brand scented wax.
If you are worried about about digital vs analog, just put a boost or a drive after it, and the chain will get the tone from the last pedal. This is great for stacking that way!
It's funny. Every time I see a bad review of a pedal somewhere, I immediately go see if Andy has a demo so I can hear once and for all what the pedal is truly capable of. :)
The Kingmaker Rules!!! Today I have it set as an EP3 booster cascaded into an OCD. It sounds absolutely creamy. The wound strings beneath my fingertips and it FEELS like glass. what a trip. All this and more from my Kingmaker.
pmckeown40 I’m going to steal the term “option paralysis”. That’s exactly why I always go back to analog gear. With digital, I spend most of my tim tweaking instead of playing
Are these essentially the same pedal with different selections from the online preset bank preloaded? It seems similar to what T.C. Electronic is doing with the Hall of Fame, Trinity and Arena reverbs. At one point Andy says a kingmaker setting is loaded into the LA Lady, So I assume thats exactly the case.
Yeah you can configure the LA to be a Kingmaker (stock toggle settings) and vice-versa. Then there's all the other sounds in the library, create yr own - awesome
could be a reference to the pedal being digital. The Source Audio guys frequently release firmware updates that you can download to the pedal to unlock more features and sounds
+arensel84 I agree, well overdrive it's quite good on some settings IMO, but Fuzz is absolutely terrible. I've yet to hear a digital fuzz that sounds... decent atleast.
+Woolgun you'll have to actually play one then fellas, I have the LA Lady, and I have yet to find a bad sound. So far, the 'lady has beat my analog pedals in clarity and note articulation, and there's really no noticeable digital artifacts in the sound. The fuzzes sound best in person, better to try one than rely on a video.
+David Kristy Haan Pretty sure we are both looking for different fuzz. I like thick fuzz with quite a lot of distortion, think stoner/sludge metal. Fuzz that sounds unpredictably, and kinda like it's broken. This kind of fuzz I never heard done well digitally. Fuzz used in rock songs that is more like overdrive with little artifacts here and there is not my thing. But it may sound decent in digital, like I said, digital overdrives are often pretty good.
+Woolgun again, don't discount this pedal without trying it, the vid only showed you 3 different fuzz voices, there's another dozen or so fuzz voices in this thing, including gated fuzzes that are very broken and sputtery sounding and heavily saturated, the fold over engine is a very unique, thick sounding distortion with sub octave undertones. I highly insist you try one, with the app if possible so you can see all the voices that are available to choose from.

I bought the Kingmaker fuzz and it's pretty crappy. Sometimes it doesn't work, other times the app doesn't work properly. It was a waste of money. I'd advise buying something else.
Sounds good but there's something a little off about the sound. Digital still sounds a bit fake too me. Very versatile with a lot more options but not the same as analog. Call me old school but I like vinyl over MP3.
@Daniel Lomax, I am running a studio with more than 25 amps and 12 pedalboards plus many other rack/eurorack units for 25 years. I have recorded many great players in my studio and I can tell you this, if you can't hear the differences it either means you are not a musician, or if you are you are not a professional one. I have tried to fool many pros with Kemper, Axe Fx and all the other sophisticated VST plugins and they rarely gets fooled. They right away suspect that something might be wrong with their tone ans ask me if I can check it for them. Analog distortion has almost infinite complexities that show themselves when playing dynamically. Digital tries to mimic that by numbers which is simply impossible.
Digital hasn't got good enough to get ALL the great tones of a killer vintage spec analog fuzz. Like a fuzzface or tonebender. Now, its not that you couldn't dial in a great tone somewhere on this Kingmaker especially buried in a professionally recorded mix.. but I can hear some unpleasant digital like qualities in how quickly and hard the notes break from clean to dirty and from slightly dirty to very distorted especially in the high treble freqs. Color me impressed by Andys playing but sorry, these pedals fall short. If you want the midi control parameters and dont want to pay more than $100 used for a fuzz-like sound ( vs $300 and higher for a real fuzz ) then this could work for some. I dont see it doing well but digital is kicking ass these days.
Ooh, "Been A Son" - nice choice. Awesome work as always, Andy. You totally captured the sound of those pedals. Cool stereo split at 4:18!

Ha-ha, great comment.
Got a belly laugh here
Thats hilarious

When I don't think I could be more impressed by Andy he does this.
That bend lick at 0:54!!!
This dude makes EVERYTHING sound great!! Awesome player!

“So I got TWO kinds of heavy.” YES! 😂
Andy has been a deciding factor on each of my 7 SA pedal purchases.
Darned Andy.😄
Nice demo and a crazy good pedal! Super job Source Audio!
The Kingmaker Rules!!!

So you have two drives in the kingmaker, one cascades into the other? Just one pedal???
Dude. Thats legit.
Do they have a ep booster in there ?
@@TheGrahamSnyder people have replicated the ep booster. There is a “ clean booster “ in the unit though.
Marshall FS and Tubescreamer in one pedal? If there's a decent amount of output on this thing, I might order one.
Holy shit that screamer and octavio mix was awesome. Sounds like a lot of option paralysis though...

@@TriteNight1218 - Aka: Analysis Paralysis
1:33 Them fingers strummin' away though.
Been A Son! 😍
The L.A. Lady is back ordered a month! Bummer. I will have to wait.
Maybe I missed it, but what is the signal chain? Are these running direct in?
Manic Depression. Maybe my fav Hendrix song. Check out the live '68 Winterland performance. Massive & majestic.
Cool pedals too. ;)
Anybody know if presets can be selected via a MIDI controller - something like a Boss Es-8, for example?
You need the Source Audio Hub. Then you can choose 128 presets
Yep. I use the HUB, an ES-8, and 3xSA pedals.
Hub is around $100AUD, at least that's what I paid for it from Prymaxe
@@guitarmoderne And scenes. The *scenes* are the secret, if you have more than one SA One series pedals in the HUB
What brand is that Strat? I thought the headstock said Reverend but it definetly says something else.
Redtail
+Robert Maglicco redtail, it's Andy's father's company
+Robert Maglicco
Looks like 'Redtail' or 'Redrail', I think I remember someone mentioning he built it himself, no idea if that's true though.

You can load all the settings into each. They are called overdrive and fuzz for those that don't want to deal with an app and just want an OD or Fuzz
Yeah you can configure the LA to be a Kingmaker (stock toggle settings) and vice-versa. Then there's all the other sounds in the library, create yr own - awesome
Yeah the bass aftershock pedal sounds can also be loaded onto either of these pedals
Song ?
First song - manic depression by jimi hendrix
Second song - been a son by nirvana
Sorry I'm a little late
Intro was a bit muffled sounding, great demo though.
+Erick Chicas what did you listen with?
Eric sin sinner It's just my opinion :)
"he One Series pedals are future proof ..."?

digital sounds a bit off to me. it works for modulation, but I prefer anolog on gain. excellent demo btw!

Sooo true

+Sloppy jones Slap 'analog' on the front of the pedal and listen to it again.
