    I am looking into attending Penn Foster, and I’m so glad that I was able to find videos that talk about the experience 😊It definitely makes me want to go just so I can have my own experience. I believe that every school has its pros and cons for sure.

    I am in my 4th semester now and totally agree about the difficulty of contacting instructors. I also dont like that they sometimes dont give feedback on written assignments. I also wish all of the classes had presentations accompanying them. I feel that I am only able to do so well in the program because I already have a bachelor's in bio and have about 5 years experience in clinic. The main thing I dislike is that the radiology course is still based on developed film rather than digital, which mostly every clinic uses now. I have to borrow film rads from a less advanced clinic because my clinic has had digital for years. I also had trouble with the exams not being really related to the course exams.

      Christa Robbins wow congrats on making it so far! Penn Foster definitely has its pros and cons. It’s definitely not for everyone. It’s unfortunate cause I was really excited about it at first but it didn’t end up being what I thought it would but that’s just my opinion. I’ve heard other people absolutely love the program.

    I haven't finished Sem 1 yet but I do want to point out a couple of things.
    1. There are Live Webinars and Supplemental Webinars that P&F host. I haven't watched the whole Anatomy and Physiology one yet but I watched a couple done by the same presenter and program director Dr Jim Hurrell. He is really great and super engaging. I heard that it was super helpful to watch his presentations on A&P to prep for the proctored exams.
    2. If you elect paper books the cost is part of your tuition but there is a $69 shipping cost and you get to keep it forever. Ebooks are free but you only have access to them for 3 years. You cannot change your mind midway through semester so you have to wait until a new semester before you can get ebook rather than textbook and vise versa.
    3. Aside from contacting your instructor via phone or the school portal, PF has a really great and active Facebook community and actually a place called COMMUNITY if you have questions.
    4. When you talked about your Bio research paper and how it was returned multiple times, Penn Foster does have a writing center via their library that can check papers. They dont check content but they do check citations, grammars, spellings, etc..That class offer great webinars done by instructors.

      @@IzelTV Tests are multiple choice. Quizzes are fill in the blanks, or written answers. Those are not graded so will not count toward final grade average. The tests are “open book”, but the “book” is online. I am towards the end of the floral design course and there is a lot covered. Way more than I thought there would be.

    I used to do Penn Foster for about a year and I was disappointed with it because of the same reason you were saying it’s not a lot of hands-on I dropped pen foster and went to a college that can do hands-on and I completed the veterinary technician program however they used the same book in second quarter . I am happy I went to a real hands on in person school. I don’t think I would be ready to take the vtne if I stayed with pen foster.

    I am super interested in the vet tech program! But I guess what's holding me back is not knowing if I will be 'employable' after I graduate and take the State exam or whatever you take to become a vet tech. Because you don't get hands on practice. So..being a graduate vet tech, do clinics usually trust people fresh out of Penn Foster knowing they didnt get that hands on experience?

    As far as the biology research paper goes, use the writer's block before submitting it to the professor. They were so helpful for me and i wouldn't have passed it without their help. I didn't realize though that the professor isn't actually the one who grades the paper. I don't understand what the point of that is, but that's good to know. I'm coming up to my proctor exams and I am freaking out! they're very difficult and there is no study guide really on what you should really study and focus on. It's 10 very long chapters full of information that you're supposed to know. I am also a visual learner and up until I got to my last two courses on my first semester, I felt so confident about my schooling. I don't know now

    Great video! Really, thank you! I have a couple of questions. Do you take multiple classes at once or do you start your next class after passing your final?
    If it takes you 12 months to complete your semester, do you then have 12 months to pay off your semester as well? Or do you only have 6 months or so to pay it off?

    • @francisneira96
      @francisneira96  6 років тому +1

      Jacqueline Mordecai it’s multiple classes at once but I believe you can do each class one at time. I believe you have to actually. Do a class at a time to move on to the next. The finals are taken once all coursework is completed in the class than you move on and repeat for the next. Not too sure how long they give you to pay off the remainder. There is a balance left after the 12 months and I believe you have to pay it off before moving on to the next semester. Hope this helps

    Those are actually really good college/university level text books. I took a study from home course once back in the 90s from a different school and they sent me books that the school had photo-copied and put in a spiral notebook which was kinda suspect and so I cancelled that course! So those books are actually pretty good. Thanks for video!

    So with the written assignments, what do you suggest? should i send my paper directly to the instructor so that i can avoid that back and forth grading system? either way there will be a back and forth to contact the instructor but i feel like it would be better to directly send the paper to them instead of random people every time since everyone has a different way of grading. its very opinionated.

    I have a lot of questions about the proctored exams. Are they open book? What sorts of questions are on them (multiple choice, essay, etc.)? Do the instructors narrow down what you need to focus on, or do they just give you that thick textbook and throw you under the bus?

    • @ambearxx7229
      @ambearxx7229 5 років тому

      Any proctored exams that don't have the VET in front of it is open book. The study guides are very helpful in outlining what you need to know for all the exams. I would focus mainly on vocabulary and lesson objectives outlined in the study guide and at the beginning of the chapters in the text book. The proctored exams are essay questions. You get an hour per test for 20 questions. Many people I know have failed the test but still passed the class just fine!

    I'm almost done with the first semester and one of the cons I've noticed is in online some sections, they are kind of unorganized. For example, I took a practice test for a online topic I just learned, and one question was for the next topic that wasn't even covered yet.. Another con is they don't go over most online vet/medical terminology within every section so I very frequently find myself using GOOGLE to look up some definitions ;/. last con is they barelyyy have any videos for examples!! The way it's explained is much harder to follow than to just watch it happening imo.

    How far along are you? I’ve seen so many mixed experiences, some loved it and some got completely unmotivated throughout the program. I did 2.5 years of Vet School back in DR and I just moved to FL. I don’t know if I should try to transfer my credits or if it’d be a waste of time considering “island schools” are usually underestimated. Have you had any assignments or “papers” returned? I’ve seen other students having a hard time keeping up with the classes, final assignments and/or exams, which scares me. I tried looking into colleges but my application process would be quite long with my school papers transfer and the cost of all of it would be too much.

    • @francisneira96
      @francisneira96  6 років тому

      melissaLabarcaG hey! I’m not too sure how international credits work. You could always call the school to find out I say try it and give it a shot because it could save you time and money. Penn foster supposedly deducts any credits you transferred off your tuition. And yes I’ve had papers returned! I believe I mentioned it in the video but I had one research paper for biology and it was the biggest headache to get it graded. Keeping up with assignments isn’t really hard because it’s at your own pace. The struggle with keeping up is probably during the externships in semesters 2 and 4 :) I hope this helps

      Francis Neira thank you for replying so fast! Yes, I heard your issue with bio but I also wanted to know if it happened with any other classes. • @francisneira96
      @francisneira96  6 років тому

      melissaLabarcaG well for semester one the only paper I had to do was for bio but I didn’t have to take English because I had that credit transferred from the college I attended before. I have read a lot of students complaining about having their papers returned to them multiple times in English courses so that’s something I’d consider. The reasons for returns could be multiple reasons like the paper not being long enough or more citations to name a few.

How is it that my local community college has more expensive payment plans which is bs cause i only work part time i wanna earn just my associates degree from penn foster in general studies and then hopefully i wanna transfer to Grand canyon university in phoenix az so i guess its a good thing that penm foster is based in arizona but i know grand canyon university is gonna so expensive cause its a huge school and its private but gcu seems really nice, it has nice whether, they have a pool for students on campus, new campus, lots of programs to study and lots of things to do cause its in a big city and the school has lots of fun things to do as well like concerts and sporting events but yeah i wanna do a fun major and basically go to a fun school and i basically dont care if GCU costs an arm and a leg cause i wanna have fun.

      Desteny Gonzalez Hi! I used the chapter review guides that you can find there on your student portal and I printed out the ones from the chapters that are on the exam. It’s just the review questions that you can find within the book. It doesn’t give you the answers to them though so I just wrote next to the questions what the answer was from the textbook. Quizlet has some study guides on there if you google it. But honestly even with this the final was extremely hard. They made the quizzes so easy compared to the final. Are you still in the Vet Tech program?

      No one asked you if you thought it was fake. They asked if it was easy to find a job. If you don’t know an answer to a question, then how about just NOT ANSWERING IT?!?

      you have access to the courses but I believe you complete the classes one at a time not all at once so for example intro to vet tech, complete that than you're on to biology

    Hey, I just finished 9th grade and am going into 10th. I want to be a music producer in my future but just want to get my high school diploma. I am looking around and seeing a lot about a vet tech and I was wondering if Penn Foster is worth it for me just getting my high school diploma if im not planning on going to college.

    As someone who has been doing penn foster for a year I wouldn’t do it if u like socializing with friends or if ur trying to get work done fast because they added this shit that only lets you do a certain amount of work per week so if u miss a week u can’t catch up lol all I’m saying is think before u do it cause I’m going back to public school 😂

      Moe Fadel I struggled with that too! I’d ask the teacher to look it over cause what happens is that they have assigned people that grade the assignment... not the teacher which is silly if you ask me. I had to basically harass mine to get her to grade it herself and accept it

      Yaritzam759 Jimemez did you select hard cover textbooks? You have the option of textbooks or an electronic book. Not all books can be hard cover though so the ones that aren’t are only online.
