  • I decided to try something different. A long term review on a plane after flying it for a season. Everyone reviews new planes but how about after months of flying them. Show what is still great and what broke and what you modded. That is my attempt here. Leave a comment and let me know if you like the format. I have a few other planes I can review like this.

      It is a sweet flyer. I got stupid this last summer and crashed it pretty good. Because it's foam I was able to get it all back together easily. I had to adjust the thrustline a bit on the motor and then a few flights to get it trimmed right. It's now flying great like it used to. It's just a little more weathered these days

    I've had a Bearcat for years and love them. I have Bearcat 3 in the air and Bearcat 1 crashed due to getting wet inside and I attempted to fly it before it was dry enough. Bearcat2 was bearcat 1 with a new fuse and wings. Lost Bearcat 2 in the sun. Right now, I'm almost finished restoring Bearcat 1 with all the leftover pieces. Biggest problem is the landing gear popping out taking the top of the wing with it. I cut a pattern to the wing section and covered that panel with Flite Metal. Should work great. Also, Bearcat 3 has Dave Brown tires. Bearcat 3 is running a 650 kv with a FMS 1400 mm Corsair prop, amazing power and more scale looks. Bearcat 1 will be running a 750kv motor with the stock prop and an 85A ESC

      Dang. You really are a fan of the Bearcat. Mine was a great flyer to I got stupid thumbs and crashed it late last year. I did piece it back together and after a few flights and retrieving it is one again flying almost a good as before. Something was a little off after the rebuild so I had to do some tweaking but the last flight before winter it handled well. I'm not trying to cover all the repairs. It is now weathered.

    I definitely like the looks of the Flightline and Eflite 1.2m warbirds; watching a fellow zip around in a P-39 sent me to the hobby store. There is one thing I lament: their weight and wing loading. I’m used to balsa/plywood kits from the last century and the first-generation parkfliers made out of EPS and Depron. These EPO airframes look fantastic but they are bricks.
    I do want a Bearcat, and yours looks fantastic.

      It was a great flyer even with the heavier wing loading. I had dumb thumbs this year and banged it up pretty good but it is all back in the air. Took a number of flights to get it flying right again but it once again flies great....but it is a little more weathered now. :-)

    I could definitely see the wing tips lighting up, good job. So where do you fly in Wisconsin. I fly at the Rams Club field in Franklin, Wi.

      Thanks for commenting. I fly mostly at the MARCS club in Madison. If I'm not flying a warbird I often fly in a field near my house.

    Great review! I appreciate the details. Like you said, the lever arm of those main gear looks like it could tear them right out with a tough landing...

    great video man, I was considering this plane but honestly looks like its not going to last long on my grass runways with those super long landing gears. Thanks for posting

    Nice, if you want to smooth our your fix go buy some Dap Fast N Final or other ligthweight spackling. It has about the consistency of the foam and can be sanded after drying. Works great for repairing epp foam.

      @TheCasualPilot  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the tip. I had heard about that recently and got some fast n final and have used it. I actually did a video on a crashed Typhoon and showed off some of the work from the spackle and a flight. Look it up on my channel.

      @@MultiSkyman1 I can't say for sure. I have used the light weight spackle on a few planes recently after the recommendation and it works well and is super light.

    Hi there! Great video, I also have the Flightline F8F Bearcat. I had issues with the landing gear coming off as well on a not so soft landing. Anyways, where did you get those duck pilots? I would love to mod my planes with a custom pilot. Happy flying!

    • @TheCasualPilot
      @TheCasualPilot  4 роки тому

      I got the duck pilots at Oshkosh Airventure in the Warbird gift shop. They are like $1 each. I buy a bunch of them every year when I go. I have a bigger one on an FPV Sky Surfer. I shoved the camera in it's mouth. You can get the ducks on Amazon as well. Just search for Aviator Rubber Duckies. They are like $8 for a dozen of them. I have them piloting a number of my planes.

    Can I ask what you use for the reflective silver on the tips and how you applied it? Thanks

    • @TheCasualPilot

      I believe it was something like this. It was like ultracote but had adhesive on the back. It came in a 6" by 3 foot piece. I got it at a local hobby shop when they closed down. You could also use aluminum tape you can get from Walmart or builders supply. It's not duct tape but a thin shiny aluminum tape. I have seen people cover entire planes in that tape and it looks great. Hope that helps www.gravesrc.com/hanger-9-ultratrim-chrome.html

    Are you using flap to elevator mix?

    • @TheCasualPilot
      @TheCasualPilot  Місяць тому +1

      @djr01974 I don't believe I did on that plane. I always fly them without and add if its needed. I have that plane away recently so I can't check but I don't believe it needed much if any

    hello, it happened to me the same, landing it broke me on the leading edge just like your plane. what is the flap configuration you use.

    • @TheCasualPilot
      @TheCasualPilot  4 роки тому

      I set my throws and my flaps according to the manual values. The runway at our club is a little bumpy and it just fatigued the foam a bit. Since the repair it has been fine.

    Very informative review. Thanks. I was wondering if it would balance right with an admiral 4S 4000mah (388g)? Which one is your favorite FL Focke Wulf or Bearcat?

    • @TheCasualPilot

      That battery should not be a problem. I run a China Hobby Line 4S/4000 in mine and honestly the plane is a beast and could probably carry 2 of them in Parallel...you better be good on landings though carrying that weight. I like the Bearcat much better than the FW190. The FW190 is much faster and a fun flyer but I have had lots of problems with it. The spinner/prop setup is weak and I have replaced them a number of times only to make a full speed pass and the whole assembly explodes. Plus my FS190, as much as I like it, was my first warbird and I learned landings on it. It's pretty beat up and I have tip stalled it in a few times when I dropped flaps on a turn. Sadly it is now retired and not repairable unless I replace the entire airframe.

      @@TheCasualPilot Thanks for getting back. I have been flying the parkzone T28 and the FMS PA-18. Both are pretty stabil. After reading all those positive reviews, I am considering the Bearcat as my first tail dragger warbird. What do you think?

    • @TheCasualPilot
      @TheCasualPilot  4 роки тому +1

      @@src2920 it would be a good choice. It really has no bad tendencies. I also think the Arrows RC P51 fits the bill too. There is a slight Rudder issue with throw to the right but it's fixable. It allows almost to a stop on landing. I also have a long term review on it in my channel. I would consider that one as well.... Plus it flies on 3s.

    Great bird that Bearcat.......what band and song at the end of the video?

    • @TheCasualPilot

      The song is actually downloaded from DigitalJuice.com. I have a membership there for royalty free content and I found the song that had the vibe I wanted there. It's called Falling Faster. It says the composer is Darren Corlew. If you go to digitaljuice.com and find their music store and search for Falling Faster you will find it.

    i also own a flightline bearcat. but i havent fly it yet. is it true that you dont need to mix flaps with the elevator and shes still fly stable no baloon?

    • @TheCasualPilot
      @TheCasualPilot  4 роки тому

      If it balloons it's not much. I haven't dialed any elevator in with the flaps. Try it on your first flight with no elevator mix. Get up high and drop the flaps. If it does it's not much. Of course don't do it at full power. Thanks for watching.
