This great nation could do some extremely impressive tasks by building extremely impressive equipment. I hope I live long enough to see it happen again.
Same here my friend
I worked with your dad in 2017 at VK. He really took me under his wing and showed me a lot. I love knowing that he's out here on UA-cam showing the world what he knows.
That's really cool to hear you that you got to work with my Dad, he is a pretty damn cool
I live 18 miles from Brutus. I was in it 1972 When it was operating our neighbor was one of the operators on Night Shift. It was pretty scary 10 years old. so yes really awesome the biggest in the world remaining anyway. Really cool to go see 100 times and I taking my dad out to go see it my dad‘ who was professional engine builder Chet Wilson’s Racing Engines in Wichita, Kansas 14 years it’s really cool you making memories with your dad Jed !!
DUDE! That is freaking incredible to hear that, I would love to hear some of your stories about what it was like working with that machine. Also on a side note, I am pretty sure the 360 small block chrysler in my girlfriends 1968 Dodge D100 was built at Chet Wilsons in Wichita, what a small world.
Great video. Know that will pull an engine and transmission with no problem. Your dad looked right at home working the controls, and you had great memories of when you were there before
When I was editing the video, it brought a tear to my eye watching him "operate" the beast
Thats fricken impressive thanks for the tour boys 👍🍻🇭🇲
Thanks for coming along with us
As a kid we had ( I think) the two largest drag lines in Europe .
They were used to remove minerals for the British Steel plant in my town.
Sadly long gone .Got to admire the engineering we were capable of.If you look up ‘Excuse me I’m walking to Corby ‘ you will find images.
I do believe in familiar, but I'll go brush up on it, thanks for checking out the video
Thanks for taking us on a tour of Big Brutus I can appreciate it being a heavy equipment operator
Thanks for coming along the tour and glad you enjoyed
We live about 45 minutes east of the Big Muskie Bucket, all that is left of the Big Muskie Dragline that ran for many years here in Ohio. Then to the north about 40 minutes is where the Gem of Egypt ran. Both were quite impressive to watch.
Holy crap man, that sounds like a dream to me, it is a shame when the machines get dismantled though
People back then didn't have any comfort in the world and it's machines back then, no heat, no air conditioning, etc. lucky to have a padded seat back in the day.
I couldn't agree more. It took a different breed to operate on this kind of machine
It would be a nightmare to inspect and if they had to replace the cable to run this machine would be astronomical at today's prices. I have been washing dishes and cleaning while listening and watching what parts of it that I can without taking a chance of getting my phone wet. Going to have to rewatch the thing is intriguing and I am enjoying every second of this. Thanks again for sharing this with my family and I. I will be sharing this with everyone that will open it and watch it. Awesome job and thank you for the enjoyable video Jedidiah and Mr. Scott!
I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed this, I'm glad I didn't cut anything out. I would have filmed more of the museum photos but I didn't want to Rob people of that whole experience.
@@ScottsSpeedShop unless I can get some help with my channel when I start it, I will only get to go see it in person if I can make it to the NNN it will be the only way to get to get over that way to see everything and meet you all. Parts are starting to pile up. I was through Kansas in the early 90's four times in 2 & 1/2 years! I'm going to say if I only would have known I would have stopped. Never knew that it was there and I never realized that it was that massive until I seen you two get there and kindly show us what it's all about.
So hard to comprehend the size and the repairs to build and repair it . I would love to see the thing operate.
I know exactly what you mean, id love to watch this thing work
Those are definitely some amazing machines
That they are man, I would love to see a cushman beside it
Big cranes are indeed awesome - and the amont of wire rope involved boggles. It takes a crane just to rig up shackles, which often get changed for length just to balance out hookload. Biggest I ever saw in service was loading out a platform rig onto a few barges... I think main hook was served by a 22 fold block? Huge.
So it’s kinda like a giant locomotive. Diesel,AC power, to DC power, to get everything moving!
So awesome 💯%
Thanks for watching man!
Awesome.. 😎👍🇺🇸
Thanks for checking out the video and hope you enjoyed the machinery
Very cool
Thanks for checking it out
Just clicked over to watch some vids on Brutus, fascinating piece of machinery & history!
Very cool video really enjoyed it thank you
I am very glad to hear that man
Excellent, and very interesting, glad your able to see it with your dad, that would be great, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Thank you for checking it out my friend
Thanks for taking us along. So cool.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for the showing Brutus to us it is awesome
I am glad you came along and enjoyed
I've always wanted to see this beast up close. Everytime I'd go to the salt mine by kanopolis for a load to take north, I'd always try to make this part of my route. Couldn't ever make it happen. Thanks for taking us along for the ride!
Oh you need to definitely make the trip, it is so worth it to see this giant machine in person, but im glad you enjoyed the little video tour
Thanks for the tour Jed! Brutus is now on my bucket list. My parents & I went up to Chicago when I was 8-9 to see the King Tut exhibit. Like you, I wish I was a little more mature then.
Oh man, seeing that particular exhibit would be one heck of an experience for sure. When you see Brutus in person, you won't be disappointed, I can promise you that
That was Incredible ... You two are the Best ...
Nah man, you're the best for checking out the video and always being so cool, I appreciate your kind words
@@ScottsSpeedShop Love the Shit You do, keep up the Great work My Brother ...
Awesome museum! Really cool equipment! Thanks ya'll for sharing it with us too!👍
Thanks for checking it out man
I grew up in Iola not far from there in Iola. It’s a lot bigger in person than it looks in pictures
Pictures never do this thing justice
That looks like the Star Wars thing the jaw waws drive ..that bad ass it’s five times bigger than a house
You are so right dude
Really cool video, thanks for taking us along! I’ve been to big Brutus but it was much like when you were young-I was probably 12-14yrs old. My uncle Bill took me to see it, he was an engineer for the KCS railway and lived in Pittsburg KS., so it wasn’t very far to drive. I always enjoyed getting to go stay with him a week or so every summer because this was the kind of stuff I got to see and learn about.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video my friend, and thank you for sharing, i bet staying with him was a blast
👍 👍 👍 👍
Heck yeah brother hello old man oh Scott, my old man wants a hyper motor for his coronet so I can build up his old one what you got in your shop brother you Michigan brother no I hope y’all doing OK with the tornadoes down there
Was there summer of 2022 with my family and my little boy said he wanted Mr to get it running and drive it home 😅
Well I am sure if enough of us came together, I bet we could make something happen, eventually haha
You should come to coffeyville kansas check out the Dalton museum and brown mansion
I'll tell Dad and we'll look it up
Dang thats a beast, i wonder what top pay was to operate that thang, cool adventure and scenery, great time with the old man, grrat hang out guys🤘
I wonder the same
The whole thing is awesome and cool and I am happy for you two to get the chance to get to see it with the Dad twice. God bless you all and enjoy your weekend.
Thank you my friend
Great video that would be something to see!!!
I would highly recommend going to see it
Good evening to you all , I hope that yinz has a great day today and that would be cool to see.
That thing is badass.
I couldn't agree more with you my friend
When you can see it over the horizon and trees it is a statement of the engineering and ingenuity that we built the nation with.
couldn't agree more man, it's truly a sight to behold
I watched.
Thank you as always
We used to have one of those little shovels probably from the 50s at the landfill I worked at I actually got to see it work
That would have been cool
I live on the Minnesota Iron Range and while the shovels at the mines around here are not as big as Brutus is, the end dump and belly dump dump trucks you showed are small compared to the dump trucks the mines around here use. But DAMN Brutus is one HUGE shovel.
Glad to hear you enjoyed my friend, I love old heavy equipment, I spent many days as a kid playing in the rock quarries while dad was working and sometimes little 8 year old me would help. Well that was before the insurance company said I could come to work with Dad anymore. I do miss those days
@@ScottsSpeedShop you would absolutely love to visit my area if you are into heavy equipment. It's funny how so many people don't realize just how powerful the old time equipment really was. A prime example of what the old technology could do is the Big Boy steam locomotive when it rescued a modern train that was stalled out ON A HILL.
@todddenio3200 I couldn't agree more, id love to start to bring awareness of these old machines, maybe hopefully it'll inspire the next generation of family's to go visit them and hopefully keep them out of the scrap yards
@@ScottsSpeedShop have you seen the video of the Big Boy steam locomotive rescuing the modern freight train? It's on UA-cam and is pretty good. The Big Boys big brothers were Yellowstone's and they were used where I live and 3 of the 4 ever built are within 120 miles of me. I think that in many ways the old stuff is better than the new things are.
Looks like a big old Cat Mr Scott? Is it.
In the last machine? If so then yes
In the old days we parked a dodge conversion van in the bucket. about 2/3 of the van fit in the bucket. At that time Brutus was the only thing there.
That doesn't surprise me haha, I am just glad they are preserving it
Wow❤❤
No sir I can tell you depending on what era the submarine is from the roof is too big/tall you wouldn't be able to stand up
I've actually heard that before from a friend who served
I looked small in that bucket and im 6'3" 250
I don't think anyone but maybe Tall John's Fun Shop lol
33:49 God bless you both and I didn't get to spend time with my dad were left behind when I was 2 & 1/2 and my sister was a infant still. 😢🥹🥲
I'm very sorry too hear about that man
