Just seen a few of your videos...good stuff...I camp a lot...some camping in the arctic ..minus 35 deg...!!!...also SAS style survival weekends...keep up the good work...!!....water in the pan first then snow ...a must....!!! also things stop working property around minus 30 degrees....!! so if you ever do..be aware..!!
wow awesome video, I am very interested in snow camping and plan on doing some alpine hiking in the backcountry of Hotham skii resort, I really love the way you guys make it look like tent you set up in the middle of a snowy field feel like home. I am only 13 and your videos give me much more confidence in my camping instincts. I really enjoy your videos and watch them whenever I get the chance, keep making snow videos please! you are an inspiration to me.
Thanks Cooper, but for the next few months it's gonna be bush camping and hopefully some jungle camping videos here at Bush Channel. Glad you like our snow camping videos, we have lots more ideas for the 2016 Aussie snow season. Good luck out there mate!!!
All the people around. I would be weirded out making a camp site when there are a bunch of people strolling by. Unless all those people were the ones camping with you. In that case it would be quite normal
Very nice. But, first thing, find somewhere sheltered out of the wind & out of sight - away from passers by (things go missing). Keep all gear INSIDE the inner tent, you don't want iced gear or, especially BOOTS, in the morning. Frozen stoves won't light, torches & cameras don't work below -8C, and food gets frozen solid. If it gets really cold -15, -20, you have to keep your boots, food & stove inside your sleeping bag Having said that, winter is the best time to go camping / hiking.
I know this video has been up for some time but somethings never change, snow is still white and cold. LOL. Nice video. I've done heaps of snow camps and planning a snow hike along the Razorback from Mt Hotham to Mt Feathertop in the mountains of Victoria - Australia this winter. I'll be taking some photos / videos from that.
Hi nice video, more informative than I expected. I will begin on Alpine camping mixed with skiing, and I am still trying to gather some pre experience before setting out. I will start off with a small trip, possibly 4 days total. The thing that troubles me atm is weight and space. I am packing light because I have to carry skis, boots, and some gear, along with the camp gear itself. My tent is a light high alpine tent, which is good, but the sleeping bag takes up a lot of space which means there's nearly no room for cooking equipment. Would you, with your experience, say that a small stove (like the MSR pocket rocket or similar) could do, or should I try to change my priorities about gear to make room for a larger stove? I bet the best choice for cooking/drinking water comes from the snow, but do you think a small stove will be efficient enough to melt and boil snow for food and drinking? I know the best solution is to travel 2-3 people together and share the gear evenly, but my mates are not always able to join me, so I want to have the option of heading out solo too, which is why I really try to prepare as good as I can. About the video, I think it looks super fun, I can't wait to get out and get experience of my own!
Daniel Kemnitz Hello +Daniel Kemnitz hope u enjoy Bush Channel. Nowadays we try to find a running creek if possible cause melting snow can be very slow. Fresh snow is 80% air but if you can compact it down into ice it's quicker to melt. See our video titled, "Melting Snow for Drinking water," Personally I find the pocket rocket type stoves (I use the Snowpeak version) with ISO Butane fuel to be very good cause the fuel burns very hot, be aware that ISO butane will start to freeze at about minus 5 degrees. Don't use regular Butane cause it'll freeze sometimes above zero degrees. See my video on snow melting cause it also has some more tips!!! My tip of wrapping the fuel can in closed cell foam will help you. HAPPY CAMPING
Bush Channel Thanks for the answer! I know it's been 3 weeks but had a look around your vids and also did a lot of research on how to keep Iso butane stoves running in freezing temps. I think I've got that covered now, I will be using the pocket rocket which seems to offer the best quality and performance for the size/weight. A liquid fueled stove would weigh too much and take up too much space if I have to make room for my ski gear too. I also gave the water melting a few thoughts. Since I will do high alpine camping, I imagine that running water can be difficult to find unless I am very lucky with my camp location. But I guess if melting snow is the best way to go, would it then be better to take a little bit of snow and melt it first, and then add more snow into the water? That way the air pockets in the snow wouldn't mean such a big difference, and you would get rid of the problem with hard packed snow being better at staying cool while submerged (hence why we use ice cubes and not snow in our drinks^^). Please let me know if you disagree on this :) Once again thanks for the answer!
Yes a lot of people say it's best to have a little water at the bottom of your pot before you add more snow. We're just coming out of another 2 night snow camp now actually and this Friday I'm hopefully uploading a video of that campsite if you're interested; we camped near a small river!!!. Which country or area are u planning to snow camp in? :-)
Bush Channel That sounds great, will look forward to it :) I plan on camping in the alps of either Schwitzerland or France. I live in Denmark, and we have no mountains and very few snow days in winter, so I need to travel quite far to reach good places - but that is fine by me, it feels more like a true adventure that way :)
She looked annoyed (don't you ever bring me to one of your trips!).....The advantage of a snow overnighter hike? She had to cuddle up to you at night to keep warmer. LOL!
Bush Channel I mean personally I liked the music, but it didn't really fit the context of the video if you know what I mean. I think that is what gabe v was trying to say
whereabouts is this mate? Where can you suggest for winter camping in vic for a first timer? seasoned camper and backpacker just haven't been out in the snow. thanks a lot

@@Bushchannel great video showcasing the unique alpine environment of Australia. The tent might be suitable for your needs, however if you don’t anchor it before the poles are inserted it will blow away like a kite even in a moderate breeze, could be a problem on mts Feathertop, Bogong, or particularly the Main Range. Not like you could outrun the wind in snowshoes.
Australia has thousands of mountain peaks, all of our mountains above 1700m in altitude get snow every year. In the highest part of NSW it can drop below minus 20 Celsius.
I'm glad my device has a volume button on it. the music sucks big time. definitely does not fit the outdoor life. Street music belongs in the inner city in some back alley occupied by thugs
IAMdevilwomen LOL we actually discuss that issue in our recent video "Cheap Winter Camping Tip, Keeping Warmer inside your Tent." We explain that you keep a large bottle inside the tent to pee inside.
We like to randomly head-butt people who aren't wearing helmets, so yes it's absolutely crucial that you wear your helmet... to protect yourself from incoming head-butts.
It's what is called a hybrid geodesic dome design which is the best for 1. Snowshedding in case 60cm of snow falls while you sleep 2. Wind stability in case you need it to stand up to winds of 60knots (110km/h) or more.
Love the music you have a hotel of a tent.
Deranged Survival Thanks for the support
i was busting a flow while you was pitching the tent. sick beat yo!
I really like the hole/ front door step. I will have to try that next time.
MrMrphotoguy32 Thanks for the interest. When camping on deep snow it's a very necessary thing for comfort.
Your welcome. you can check out my You Tube channel on winter camping too if you like.
Snow skirt is a must. This tent is ok for -7. If there would bin windie night you would get really cold.
I do this almost every weekend, except i use my pop up ice house and buddy heaters and cookers, just a tad easier and warmer

I am surprised you didn’t have a tent footprint under the tent. What tent is it? What other equipment did you use?
very good snow anchors for guy lines
Do you ever go camping with a hot tent? Do people in Vic use portable wood stoves for heating their tents?
Dat mensen dit doen! Echt geweldig!
nice video. Love the music!
sandy sandypants Love the music?--- Love the music--- is that what you call it now days?

It's not that bad mate
That's awesome sarcasm.
Unless you have a head injury, in which case, my condolences.

We’ve been on hundreds of trips together since then.
Very good. Thank you very much
Can't hear you with the music so loud.
Great vid. Why do you wear the helmet? is it anti-drop bear protection?
I liked the music.. gettin’ busy...busy place though..looks like a through fare with all the people skiing by
I'm so glad I own a camp. Too old for that stuff. Couldn't imagine what sleeping on the snow would do for arthritis.
Oh SHUT UP and go sit by the fire, you useless, rickety old... (Just kidding, dude. I'm old and stiff too). LOL
Loose the dance music.
Lose* dumbass
I guess I glad I can't hear and use sub titles no music to complain about so ,,,, I loved your video makes me miss home (Wyoming)

Thanks Shamic! yes do they expect UA-camrs to have a million dollar budget with full sound studio ;-)
Bush Channel I mean personally I liked the music, but it didn't really fit the context of the video if you know what I mean. I think that is what gabe v was trying to say
Is not goooood
Name on the tent, and where i can buy it?
Looks bloody freezing!!! Doesn't look appealing.... music wasn't too bad, but seemed like music from an action scene from JAMES BOND... lol
Music ruined it- not needed
Yes indeed
So true, soothing music would have been nice.
I thought it was my ringtone from 2002
that music has to go,rather listen to you tell how you guys are getting food cooked and how you guys are stating warm!!
Terrible music
do I have to have the tasteless music for the tent to work?
That music drives you nuts! Good grief!

That's a good spot, it's called Pretty Valley, it's about 15km from Falls Creek. Also Mt Baw Baw National Park is a good place to start.
I subbed and then I muted. Sorry, but that music.....
I here in Brazil only to see this video'm already very cold.
Thank god your no where near a big mountain range, you know like the Andes!

Oscar Fricke yes I would. It's definitely a great buy! Thanks for watching.

Extreme cold

you wear a helmet while hiking?
Ok when that guy was walking up and down making the snow hard, only one thing came to mind. PINGU lol
The snow HARD......PINGU means "Big Dick" in Cuban......Hmm....What happens in the snow, melts in the Snow.
I'm glad my device has a volume button on it. the music sucks big time. definitely does not fit the outdoor life. Street music belongs in the inner city in some back alley occupied by thugs
nice vid...music was horrendous!
I wasn't bothered by the music . What tent is that?
What make is that shovel ?
What on earth possesed you to have the music on.
I'm sorry if I missed this, but what tent is that?
Hello Shaun, it's called the Mont Epoch. It's also in quite a few recent videos! WELCOME TO BUSHCHANNEL!
whats the tent called and whats the price range on it
Take a look here: fastmoving.sale/search?q=Outdoor you might find a tent you need.
Its a Mont Epoch tent about 700USD
Hi where was this video done ?
handyparts It's at a place called Pretty Valley near Falls Creek in Victoria, Australia. HAPPY CAMPING!!!
who made the tent
Its a Mont Epoch tent about 700USD
Thanks
how do you keep it warm inside?
LOL... it aint warm inside the tent. But inside your sleeping bag it's warm.
that would suck, esp if ya just got warm and had ta pee LOL
IAMdevilwomen LOL we actually discuss that issue in our recent video "Cheap Winter Camping Tip, Keeping Warmer inside your Tent." We explain that you keep a large bottle inside the tent to pee inside.
lol that mental image
IAMdevilwomen I get it thermal friction
The music was terrible it ruined the video
Thatoneguy it did
Your gayness ruins my life
What's the helmet for?
It’s for head butting people who aren’t wearing helmets.
is that a special helmet?
Hello Zach, it's a climbing helmet. Enjoy!
Please let us know what mfg/model your tent is.
Its a Mont Epoch tent about 700USD
Thank you for your reply.
I had some snow shoes once I want inside and they melted....
The music 😱
New zealand was it ??
What's with the music? Lmao
You're all crazy!!!!!
LOL ;)
Music was amazing, forget the haters!🔊🎶♩🎵🎼🎙🎧✌🖒👏👏👏💯
No valances? What!?
No ground sheet MMMM?To each there own I guess.
Great video, but loose the music! I finally stopped watching because of it.
You were snowshoeing on more or less level ground , with apparently half your town pitching tents all around you. EHY were you wearing a helmet?
That music is so bad...
health and safety someone could fall down that hole
When I camp on the snow do I need to wear my helmet?
We like to randomly head-butt people who aren't wearing helmets, so yes it's absolutely crucial that you wear your helmet... to protect yourself from incoming head-butts.
Thanks for the advice, and I will always wear mine from now on, and keep clear of my unpredictable fellow campers. Safety first.
It must be nice to have a wife like that to keep you warm. I don't have anybody to keep me warm.
Phoenixspin you have snowwhite and 4 dwarfs
hahaha Snow White and 7 Dwarfs
dude! you blew it! that girl was COLD! any normal man would have dropped the camera and held her!
😊 - I LIKE - BUT THE MUSIC - DISTURBING - BEING SELF SUFFICIENT - IS KEY AS MEN - THANKS
great video, but horrible music. It doesn't match beautiful scenery.
What's with this music ....
How is this a "Snow tent"?

1. Snowshedding in case 60cm of snow falls while you sleep
2. Wind stability in case you need it to stand up to winds of 60knots (110km/h) or more.
At least when it gets cold, you have a nice female companion to spoon through the night. Hell of a bit better the spooning a guy to keep warm.
yuyo57 that moment when it's too cold at night and you have to sleep with your best friend for heat
Okay, the music didn't fit what you were doing. The pace of the video was slow. Lastly, there was no new information in this video.
I have to agree with the other guys that your choice of music was pretty bad.
ha ha a minaret ...cant beet it (without an Olympus)
The music ruins the very nice pictures 😥
Snow anchor 😂🤣😂
why are you wearing the helmets even in the camp?
For head-butting people who aren’t wearing helmets.
@@Bushchannel so I suppose you're wearing it when sleeping too, just in case
Yes, because if a non-helmet wearer appears in our dreams, we head-butt them.
@@Bushchannel I didn't expect this answer :)))) With that heavy ecrin roc you can head-butt an rhino :)))
Very loud and irritating music... Not needed
Awful. Music!
Inner tent first? You knob!
Music sucks. Thanks
