Still he has to get through the Chinese Gauntlet. Ma Long is next. Then the winner of Wang Chuqin and Xu Xin. Not impossible, but fairly difficult. So one step at a time would be good.
Wow. Jeoung is showing his speed and power capabilities again, his forehand top spins always give trouble as they seem loaded with side and his nightmare backhands are bullets, Fan knew he would have trouble from the beginning, even reading his serves was causing him frustration. JY has often been beaten past the post after shock leads, but he held on and powered through. Great match from both. Epic win.
I don't understand how anyone could be disappointed after seeing a match like this. Honestly everytime someone beats a chinese player it really feels like a breath of fresh air..
Last 9 months no trophies for fzd. I don't know what he is going through. It must be difficult for him but he will come through this bad phase for sure. Love the way you play man.
Congratulation to Jeong Youngsik. His amazing performance. Fan Zengdong forgot spins in this match. Against Jeong Youngsik with very stable defenses from backhand and forehand, it should be patient to play safety to force opponent to run before earning points.
An 110% Jeoung Youngsik amazingly pays off an 80% FZD, slacker and uncommitted, almost yawning up to the fourth game... Well deserved victory for the Korean champions, and a good lesson for the Chines young lion: never underestimate an opponent.. especially when he's worth, and playing in front of his own crowd!
Jeoung finally breakthrough himself. I've always seen something special with his BH, just that his FH-BH combination is kinda weak. Kudos to a hard fought battle
@@agenthex What technique? Jeoung Youngsik is more than 10 years older. Look how he played before Harimoto introduced himself to the table tennis world. Watch his match against Ma Long at the Olympics 2016. So what is he learning from Harimoto?
There were so much net-cord shots from FZD and so many backhand topspins went into the net. Maybe it's because Jeoung Youngsik takes the ball very early and plays more with speed rather than spin
Hard to believe but Jeoung effectively neutralized the backhand flick, and he had the better backhand. Its also conceivable that Fan might have underestimated Jeoung, but he was definitely out-strategized by the Korean player.
List of errors made by FZD, not sure what happened. I think with 40+ ball it is really challenging. Not Quick movement x 2 backhand soft opening x 4 backhand serve receive x5 forehand serve receive backhand opening error x3 unforced error x2 backhand loop error x16 backhand block error x6 short push backhand short push forehand x3 wrong position x2
Anyone who has played with the new 40+ ball will tell you that it literally changed Table Tennis in the biggest way. The new ball is bigger. Slightly heavier. Much harder in materials than the old celluloid. Also the texture is rougher. When you put everything together, the ball will impart less spins because of increased turbulence in the air, also the speed becomes slower. Of course, the bounce is much higher. Everything adds to more time for opponents to prepare for the next shot. Therefore, the loop-to-loop game is gone for good. Now, you have to play closer to the table similar to the ladies game, but a lot more power with the Men's. Also the key is to place your shots carefully while keeping the bounce low on the serves to prevent easy flips on both wings. There will be more flat hit or slap hit returns for winners if the ball stays on the strike zone more often. You will see a lot of chop blocks so your footwork and technical skills are called upon because you cannot admire your shots no matter how good they are. Always be prepared for the next one until the point is over. So with that, you will have harder rubbers for the backhand side with blocking at close to mid distances. Also with the variation of the blades with different materials on the forehand and the backhand sides for the same reasons. Perhaps you might see the previously outdated 70s penholders tactics coming back, such as push block attacks and flatter hits.
@@jinsuchoi1517 No kidding, FZD's backhand used to be rocking, but in this particular match have you counted how many errors, forced or unforced, he has committed?
So much backhand barely went over with the help of the net and much more went into the net. May e because of Yeoung Youngsik's playing style. He takes the ball very early abd I think he plays more with speed than spin
ITTF should do post match interviews, like they do in Tennis. It would be interesting to hear from Fan what caused him to make so many errors with his BH.
I would like to take this opportunity to say again that Wanghao, who is Fan's coach, unable to help Fan get higher level. Sad. Congrats Jeoung Youngsik! You deserves.
Congratulations to Jeoung for the match of his career. He played the entire game by dictating his tactics. Very brave to go for broke on huge points and surprised Fan with his pace and placement. On the other hand. Fan looked tired and had a lot of serve receive errors. Perhaps he might needed a break?
I don't know why, but I felt that Jeoung could beat FZD. And I know he will do it again. Something about his style, strong and quick backhand makes FZD uncomfortable. Withing non-Chinese players, he looks like the biggest threat to FZD. Not Harimoto.
Fzd - sorry to say but ticket to Tokyo looks difficult day by day. Fzd form is dipping and xu xin form is becoming better. So mostly it will be ma long and xu xin from CNT
Something was wrong in the tactics for Xiaopang, I don't understand what's in Wang hao's mind: knowing exactly Jeoung's backhand power (one of the best in the world) but still let Fan rally it stubbornly.
What I don't get is that the Korean players all play way more agressive at home this time. They should allways play like that vs the Chinese that's the only way to challenge them to put them under pressure.
I really don't understand what happened to FZD lately this year. And his backhand was not good and accurate as before or is it JYS who is just stronger with his backhand or FZD is not used to his style or all of these factors? I have to admit that JYS was stronger in this match overall and FZD was always under pressure. I'm disappointed since I'm a fan of FZD. Hope to see a better FZD in the future. Great match. Congrats JYS, well deserved.
Ever since 2013, I thought by this time, FZD would be commanding the CNT while Ma Long and Xu Xin would be preparing for their retirements but it’s not the case.
Fan Zhendong should watch more UA-cam table tennis coaching videos on imparting more spin on his loops and serves, not to mention keeping his serve short and improving footwork. Nothing is impossible to attain for the coaches who produce UA-cam table tennis training videos.
I cant belive it . He beat fan zhendong maybe is the crawd give him a courage to take the worlds no 1. I salout him for giving all he got just to defind the land of korea from the one of the dangerous player in china..
Jeoung is on fire!! He also gave ML a tough time in Japan open. Keep this good form and he could win this tournament.
That is true, I almost wrote the same thing, but saw your comment.
