  • This procedure may work on 2012 Furbys and Furby Connects, though the latter might have a different process. WARNING: Performing the test mode may factory reset and/or damage your Furby unless you know what you’re doing. Attempt this at your own risk.

    You are awesome!! I’ve been looking for this for years. I guess you have to have vision to find it. I was trying different combinations and sequences of sensors, but it didn’t work. Do you know if it works for the 2012s?

    • @The_One_Time
      @The_One_Time  2 роки тому +5

      Yeah. I first discovered it while I was taking apart a broken boom. I noticed that there was a wire that went from the tail sensor plug to a random spot in the battery compartment. I wondered why there was this random wire that seemingly went nowhere, and then I looked on the board and saw "Test". As soon as I saw that, I just had to experiment, and since it was on a non-working Boom that was for parts, I had nothing to lose if it ever went wrong. And that's what led me here. Also, I'm pretty sure the 2012's have the same test contact since they are mostly identical to a Boom. I even found the same contact on a Connect and discovered a test mode there! I thought that, considering you can access the debugging stats using it, the test mode would be accessed via Bluetooth, but nope. I don't know for sure if it's the same with Furbaccas, but I think it's highly likely that they have the contact too.

      Yeah. I got it to work on my 2012. It has a broken speaker, so I couldn’t hear the sounds too well. But I figured out what some of the modes do. I would like to do a video on it, but the speaker completely died today.

    • @The_One_Time
      @The_One_Time  2 роки тому +1

      @@RobotMopper Oof... That sucks. I know it's possible to replace the speaker (heck, the Boom shown in this video used to be mute and had a weak motor, but I managed to replace those parts with the scrapped Boom's and got it to work. Unfortunately, the tilt sensor is messed up as it always thinks it's being shaken from time to time, but I'm not really willing to replace that yet), but I can understand if you're not able to fix it. It's pretty tricky getting these apart to fix without accidentally ruining a tab or two and would require a good amount of experience and patience. Plus, you would need to have parts on hand, which means buying some online or scrapping something else that uses similar parts. Yeah, it's not really a task that everyone can do, so I can fully understand if you aren't willing or are unable to repair it.

      @@ChallTMN Just to let you know, there is a section of the test mode that will factory reset the Furby’s memory, that being the MCU/ROM version screen. That means that the Furby’s personality will be set to the default one and any learned names will be lost. So, uh… If you want to figure out how to use the test mode by yourself, please do it on a Furby you don’t mind starting fresh on in case the memory wipe ever happens.

    Hey I heard that furby boom' and 2012's are programmed to stop moving after a short time so they will sell more and people will buy new one's and I think it's TRUE because it had a lot of used furby's and they where not moving so I took them apart and tested there moters and the moters worked but wen I put them back in my furby they stop working and it's not the gears or anything so kinda sus but it can also just be that overtime the moters get too weak to move a furby because a lot of my furby's had this

      If the name “factory *test* mode” doesn’t ring a bell, it’s essentially a mode that allows workers at a factory to quickly and fairly easily test all the functions of a toy before being sent to stores. The test mode in 2012s/Booms, for instance, helps check the functionality of the motor, position sensors, tilt sensor, capacitive touch sensors, LCD, mouth & tail sensors, speaker, and piezo speaker (the ones that produces the high frequency sounds used for communication with other Furbys).
      Test modes are usually kept fairly hidden within most toys, and are not intended to be accessible to regular consumers. It’s usually because some test modes can reset a toy’s memory back to factory defaults, companies not expecting the consumer to repair the toy themselves, or worst case scenario, the test mode can potentially damage a toy further (looking at you, Mr. Robot). And since there are usually no official guides to test modes publicly available, you’ll have to trial and error your way through to figure out how it all works when discovering for the first time. But as long as you know exactly what you’re doing, you should pretty much be a-ok!
      Test modes are helpful for pinpointing the exact causes of certain problems, but it usually cannot directly repair it. It can only help you guide to what’s wrong. For example, if one of the capacitive touch sensors isn’t working, then the test mode will not indicate that touch sensor is sensing anything when it’s supposed to. That can help you with finding what’s wrong, such as the sensor’s wires being pulled or nearby battery wires causing interference, but the test mode won’t fix it directly. You have to open it up to fix it yourself. Then once you’re done, you can pull up the test mode again to see if the sensor is working again. If it is, you’re all set! But if it isn’t, then you’ll have to try again.
      Since the test mode for Furby Booms heavily relies on sound, there isn’t a need to actually use it to test the speaker if it has failed, you’ll know simply just from normal play. You’ll have to replace the speaker (or try that one risky method where you poke something inside the speaker) when it fails in order for the toy to produce sound again.
      By the way, this video is meant to be more of a guide to show you how to access it, not for showing how to use it, as there’s way more in the test mode than what’s shown here. I’m pretty sure there are plenty of videos out there that show the test mode in further detail.

      @@ChallTMN From what I’ve seen, there is only one test contact on the Boom board. However (although this only applies to booms and not 2012s), they do have three pins sticking out of the side of their heads. I am guessing the pins are used to assign the color type of the Furby to the board since Furby Booms are supposed to know what color they are. Of course, I haven’t messed with the pins (and probably won’t), but that’s what I’m guessing. After all, there is a section of the test mode showing the Furby’s color in numerical form. Maybe that’s where those pins come into play.
