I just passed my PPL flight test and now am wondering if I'd like to do a PIFR or CIR (IREX). Could you do a video a bit more in depth about the differences or what you like about your IREX ?
Being an American and never having been to Australia I was curious if you are required to carry certain survival equipment when flying across the outback? Water, shelter etc.... Or is it only recommended you do?
Hey Nick, good question. I might answer this in the next Ask The Pilot Q&A if that's cool. But in a nutshell we do have some Designated Remote Areas (DRAs) in Australia where there's a requirement to carry "survival equipment for sustaining life" if flying over those areas. Covers a lot of the outback, the Snowy Mountains and the West side of Tasmania.
Fly Digital yeah would be cool too see. Think the only place we would have something is Alaska, one of the few States I have yet to go to. I can't confirm but have heard you need to fly with a gun in case you encounter a bear if you land off airport. Some "airports" are just flat areas next to a river, so high chance of bear encounter.
Your channel is getting more interesting every week. When you did your instrument rating did you do the MECIR or just the IR on its own ? I was just having a look at the Red Baron website, and i think spotted you in a pic amongst some other students and instructors in the Class of 2013 CPL flyaway to Tasmania. That must have been an exciting flight to do.
Hey Silo, thanks for the kind words. Yes that would have been me. Epic 4 day trip from Sydney to Tassie and back via the Snowy Mountains, Flinders and King Islands, and through regional NSW. Red Baron are a fantastic training school. I'll answer your question in the next Ask The Pilot if you like, it's a good one, and ties in to why I fly a Cirrus now. Thanks mate, Stef.
hello ,I want to ask the linkIs that chicken aviation ?I cannot find itthanksBy the way,I am a student from CAE Oxford and I am learning IFRyour video are very helpful for me
Do your intro infront of the museum (if they'll let you) in front of e 737 or the prop would look good. You wouldn't have to go in for those. Just realised that you already (sort of) are infront of the museum. Haha Great work
Good idea, I might go see them and see if I can do some filming around there too. I was going to film this in front of the tower by the playground, but so much construction work! 🚧 Thanks for watching!
Hey Andy, thanks for being a part of the channel. The Cirrus Transition Training took me 4 sessions in total, one of which was ground work, and three flights. I've since done a few additional flights with a CSIP (Cirrus Standardised Instructor Pilot) focussing on the avionics. It's not that complex at all, they're really intuitive airplanes to fly. Cheers, Stef 👍
Hello Stef, Liked your intro. I'm tipping that you might be a Casey Neistat fan. Get yourself a drone and a Boosted Board and you will be well on the way! (But don't do that. Be yourself)
Hey Tony, thanks. And haha, yes I love Casey's work! Been a fan of his for a while, I know it shows in some of my techniques. He's definitely an inspiration but I'd never try and be anything other than myself. But as a filmmaker I love following his work, it gives me creative inspiration to try new things in my videos. Oh, and I already have an Evolve electric skateboard, working on the drone... :) Thanks for watching, Stef.
If you want to ask a question for the next 'Ask The Pilot' add it here and I'll try and include it in the next video. Thanks, Stef. ✈👍

Sweet intro.
Thank you sir! 👍
Great video as always! Just one question, do you rent the cirrus you fly with or do you own it? :)
Good question, I'll pop that into next week's Q&A, thanks Aviation On TOP!
Hi fly digital. Just wondering where you buy your sunglasses from?
Haha hey Liam! That is an official aviation secret and unfortunately I can't divulge that information. 😎🕶

Are you looking to get into the airlines?
Hey BRAINYT, I'll answer this in a future Q&A, thanks for that question.
How long did the Cirrus training take you? Enjoying the channel btw ;)
