"It's ridiculous. Especially considering the run defense that he will be going up against tomorrow night"... That is a pretty big diss on the UGA defense.
Good podcast. The argument for the extra home game in the playoff is that the playoff teams do not play the same number of games. Georgia was forced to win the conference championship. It essentially was a 1st round playoff game (neutralizing the home playoff games for teams like ND, Ohio State, Penn St). The 1st round bye for UGA and Oregon doesn't put us in a better position. It puts us on the same footing as Notre Dame, Ohio St, and Penn St who got a free week off without earning it. If we are at this round of the playoffs on equal footing... what was the benefit for UGA and Oregon winning the conference championship and playing such a tough schedule (UGA has 4 wins over playoff teams and we haven't played a playoff game yet. Oregon has 3). I'm not saying that the extra round of home playoff games is the solution. But the problem is very apparent. And conference championship games make too much money to go away.
Other teams have found a way to rush on them. And ND is better than those teams. I am aware that Georgia did well defending the run against Texas. But isn't the UGA edge rushers' forte pass rushing? I suspect ND will not be running it between the tackles as much, but rather bouncing it outside. As an ND fan, I have predicted UGA by 3 pts. for a variety of reasons. Hope I am wrong. I do think ND has a 45% chance of winning the game so I would not be surprised if ND wins. I think this has the makings of a great game.
I dont think Notre Dame fans understand the confidence in Gunner Stockton. It isnt about Carson Beck versus Gunner Stockton. It is about the UGA offense with either QB. 1+1=3 Etienne has easily and by far been our best offensive player all season. We saw what he did against Texas while wearing kevlar in the SECCG. What QB makes Etienne better? Beck or Stockton? What QB makes the offensive line better? Especially against a defense that loves single high safety man under. Beck or Stockton? The team and defense are invigorated by Stockton. Why? 2022, Gunner ran scout team against the #1 defense and won a lot of reps (Beck was significantly worse in 2020 as scout team QB). UGA runs the #1 offense against #1 defense on Mondays and Tuesdays (search "bloody Tuesday" for more information). Gunner wins reps that he shouldnt win with his legs. None of that means Stockton understands the offense better than Carson. It doesnt mean that Stockton avoids the catastrophic play better on 3rd and 7s. But one player lifts up the teammates play better than the other. One QB makes our best player better. One QB makes our offensive line "right" even when they are wrong. These are reasons why UGA fans are hopeful for Stockton. If the player of the game is Etienne, then Gunner did his job.
@Nitabita_ Beck is the better QB. Quicker release. NFL frame. Beck is better suited to throw the football 35+ times a game. But some QBs can have more success in college than a Matt Stafford, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning. It happens all of the time.
I appreciate when opponent's fans come on here or on other ND sites and instead of just blatantly and obnoxiously trolling, actually contribute to an intelligent discussion. Likewise, I disdain fans, including ND fans, going on other sites just to troll and antagonize without any reasonable points supporting their position. Bottom line: trolls everywhere lower the quality of discussion and waste everyone's time.
@johntucker5994 Notre Dame took away Etienne and earned the win. UGAs offense ran through Etienne all season. Shut down Etienne and you hold UGA to 10 points. My hope was that Gunner would hold a defender and give Etienne a little more room. But ND made him feel it. Congrats on the win.

Love the confidence from the Irish and you might pull it off. But…..who is blocking the two top 15 draft pick edge rushers…..

ASU got robbed of that win

Stockton would have started! He’s been there 3 years….

Thanks for your local UGA fan perspective.
