Great question!! I have never had great success with artificial crawlers so I prefer real ones....artificial ones work ok if fishing over or through weeds. You can bury the hooks in the crawler and keep the rig fairly weedless...
Once bitten, do you let the fish take the bait or set the hook right away?
I usually let them hang on for a bit . Each day is different
