I throw knives as a hobby. The sidearm flick is kinda hard to pull off, but will get you the most power if you don't have the time/space to properly wind up, works for short distances. The magic accuracy helps. Arrows aren't weighted to be thrown, but if you manage to hit an unarmored bit a thrown arrow would put someone down.

when i was 12 i was the youngest person competing in a “mountain man rendezvous” competition through the boy scouts and i won first place in archery in hatchet throwing and in black powder which where pretty much the main categories but for each one i was given a custom hand crafted wooden arrow with white goose feathers from some artist in canada and it had two kinds of wood in the shaft and target tips. i didn’t have a bow and my brother and i used to throw those incredibly far. we would grab it by the notch and fletching and raise one foot so you body moves in a pendulum and throw it with your arm straight the entire time but swing it overhand with the arrow pointed straight with your arm but swing it like it was the arm of a clock. these arrows would glide forever because the fletching caused them to turn really well. i’ve always been really good at throwing a frisbee but i could throw those arrows further maybe 500ft and i can only throw a frisbee less than 400 ft. i’ve tried it with a few other arrows and it doesn’t work at all. i think if there were an arrow made for throwing that it would be effective.
Most of us has at some point tried shooting an arrow with the typical low pound kids/toy bow. But seeing warbow-size arrows being thrown like spears? they actually look like they could be used for that purpose xD

I thought that was just another TV show gimmick thing. XD Throwing a knife without spin seems like it would not have much force either. On a spin throw even if the blade end doesnt stick, its still a metal object thrown with serious force, and could still hurt, or hinder depending where it hits. If you’ve got nothing else but a quiver of arrows and no bows around to make use of ‘em, them the best offensive use of them is to try to use them as stabbing weapons (We’ve had Legolas do this, but he also has useful knives for melee combat), not throwing weapons. The quiver and arrows could be used defensively to ward off a sword blow or two.
Thrown large arrows (not spears) have been used for thousands of years in various forms. Flesh is much more yielding than an archery target, but cool video! I love your stuff!
The reason why Susan decided in the end that Narnia wasn't real and all of her experiences there was just playing with her siblings in their childhood is she remembered this moment and went "Naaah, that couldn't have actually happened, it's far too silly!"
In shurikenjutsu there is a metal spike like dart that is thrown as an overhand pitch. Ideally you'd fit the butt of the dart in your palm, folding your palm in to cradle it (just reach your thumb toward the base of the pinky,) and rest the shaft between your middle and ring fingers. It has a "slinging" sensation when done right. But again, these are metal darts, not longer wooden arrows.
You could try a technique known as a no-spin, or quarter spin throw in knife throwing. You palm the handle of the knife with your pointer or middle finger down the side of the handle and as you throw you push against the knife with your finger and stabilize the spin. It can still over and underspin, but it's a lot more consistent than just lobbing a knife. You change the amount of force you use to push against the knife with your finger to adjust for length of the knife and distance to the target. Arrows are quite a bit lighter than knives so I don't think you are ever going to get it to be as effective, but may be worth a shot. Heavy throwing knives stick alot easier and hit a lot harder.
You didn’t mention it but I’m sure you noticed: when you threw the whole quiver at once, one arrow did actually stick through the wool shirt, probably not enough to change the “non-lethal” part, but I imagine they’d want to get it looked at sooner rather than later if they could, and it might hamper their ability to pursue you even if their will to try is still strong.
I seriously want to know the science behind why the individual “javelin thrown” arrows don’t penetrate the shirt but 1 or 2 did when the whole quiver was thrown. Like, whaaaat?
I'd guess it's one (or both) of 2 things: 1- it's actually quite hard to put your full weight behind a throw if the thing you're holding is very light and narrow, so you can actually throw the bunch a lot harder. 2- the odds of penetrating the shirt were low but not zero. Throw enough arrows and some of them will find a gap in the weave.
Hey just an idea, what if you tried throwing the arrow using a no-spin knife throwing technique. Grip the shaft (point facing target) with a loose palm grip and your index finger extended with the tip of it just after the balancing point of the arrow. Then when you throw it, release the palm grip and let the length of the shaft slide along your finger (basically guiding the arrow) and break contact with the arrow just before your finger touches the flights. This technique helps me in throwing a knife with no spin so I thought it might work with an arrow too (I don't have arrows so I can't test it myself). Also, just so you know, the throw won't have a lot of power in it but hopefully enough.
You can throw them like the "nospin" knife technique. Hold them a bit father up the shaft, use the side swing technique and use your finger to slide down the shaft, canceling the tumble of the arrow, while still keeping the momentum of the side swing technique. I'm not saying it's more powerful than a bow shot, but it's definitely better than just throwing it like a club.
Can I offer a suggestion? The concept is not half bad. There is a device that archers used back then to throw an arrow by hand, rather than launch it from a bow. It was a long, fairly thin piece of wood, with a divot carved into the wood, where the flight of the arrow would get put. Then, using the piece of wood, they would swing their arm forward, effectively providing a longer arm for throwing the arrow. It’s kind of similar to that plastic scooper arm toy that dog owners buy for throwing tennis balls. If you held the arrow by the back end of the flight, you might be able to make the concept work!! 😊
Generally magic enchantments add some minimal amount of “magical hardening/sharpening/honking enhancement” just innately. As well, magic items generally have to already be of high enough quality material to not asplode from the magical force out into it. Finally, I doubt her intended target was the armor instead of dude underneath.
The wrench in that scenario is obviously the distance Arrow has no time to gain momentum based on Susans raw arm strength(without the bow compounding the force)
Throwing a whole quiver-worth of arrows instead of shooting them looks like an ultimate insult.
Like "You're not even worth the effort of loading up my bow, Imma just chuck these arrows at you instead" 😂
Like that Rambo parody with Charlie Sheen that throw bullet at the enemy

I don't know why I'm watching this, I'm not going to throw arrows, but thanks for such cool and detailed explanation
Thrown large arrows (not spears) have been used for thousands of years in various forms. Flesh is much more yielding than an archery target, but cool video! I love your stuff!
I didn't realize I needed this 😁
Thanks mate !! I will remember that for the next time I go to a war.

Long Big War Darts: are we a joke?
Spears with fancy feathers: are we a joke?
Thank you for debunking this movie for me, I thought it was legitimately possible 🤣
This is what it looks like when your dad doesnt teach you to throw a ball
God that was such a good book.
That type of throwing I remember as a type of throw you can do with throwing knives
You gotta use centrifugal force and let it slide out of your hand while having your hand guide the arrow to its target.
It will leave you without any arrows. But with a broken bow, you won’t be needing those arrows anyway
He cut the end because he threw the arrows through the target with his power.
My takeaway is that if I throw all of my arrows away I will have no arrows left.
Susan... This isn't lawn darts okay?!
"Do with that information what you will"... Mostly, I'll just recall it from my brain for memory entertainment 😂
She’s lucky to have magic arrows then
Ah yes, the "end them rightly" of the archery world.
I seriously want to know the science behind why the individual “javelin thrown” arrows don’t penetrate the shirt but 1 or 2 did when the whole quiver was thrown. Like, whaaaat?
I'd guess it's one (or both) of 2 things:
1- it's actually quite hard to put your full weight behind a throw if the thing you're holding is very light and narrow, so you can actually throw the bunch a lot harder.
The extra mass of a broadhead might make this a bit more possible
If your bow breaks, just draw your daggers or sword from its scabbard.
Me imagining someone yelling~~your not even worth my bow and just throws the arrow instead 😂😂
Better to use them as a club
Honey, the neighbor is throwing arrows at a target again…. No, he’s got the bow in his hand…. Now he just lobbed the whole quiver…
throwing a whole quiver of arrows look soo cool! despite it being very desperate.. !
I mean. Darts are miniature arrows so if I was going to throw arrows, I would throw them like I would with darts.
never mind that, a dnd monk can catch projectiles and throw them back at the attacker.
The wrench in that scenario is obviously the distance
Arrow has no time to gain momentum based on Susans raw arm strength(without the bow compounding the force)
Gain momentum would only make sense if she were dropping it from above

When someone tries throwing heavy arrows at you like a spear but it’s all good cos your wearing a shirt
Distracted by the fact this guy has an uncanny resemblance to Nicholas Hoult
"It looks incredibly cool"
Does it? 😂
Dude, they are magical arrows given to her by Santa Claus!
So it's basically like trying to throw your bullets at someone...
