Great video!! Very interesting to learn how the limited visibility ultimately affects your decision to divert or continue your landing. Great information!
Thanks Keith.
Thanks for taking us along on a minimums landing and explaining the decisions you must make in a very small window of time. Really enjoyed the video.
thanks Rick. I should have added the brief as we were descending into the terminal area.
Great flying Mike! You are such a pro, the visibility was horrible. Amazing how much you have to know to fly a plane, and you do such a fabulous job.
Nice foggy landing Captain! You both are excellent pilots!!
Now that was tight guys. fantastic approach and landing ....well done to the pros
Thanks Mac.
Nice to see you back Jim. Look at Mike greasing that landing. You would think he did that once or twice at the airlines before he retired 😉
Mike sets the bar high.
Great video Cap!
Thanks for watching,
So ready for Spring, It has been tough on our Private Pilot students trying to schedule.
I love spring weather. Here it's autumn here in Australia sunny and dry. Nice days for flying here. That was scary landing in Atlanta cold and wet low visability. You landed safely though.
I sure am, officially, sick of winter! Amazing how temps in the low 50's feel like heat after 5 months of this. Temps are definitely trending warmer up here in MA. Let the mud season begin (don't think it really ever ended this season!).
Great video as always, Jim. Always love the cloud shots out the cockpit glass, and following your adventures around the country. 👍👍
thanks Smitty. I'm starting to think 50 is shorts weather.
@@captmoonbeam - Hahaha! I'm thinking the same up here! 😁
The refresh rate on those displays and the camera frame rate has me on an acid trip.
Drives me crazy.
Man those videos are so comfy
I love your video, the image of the takeoff was fantastic watching the whole process, I love the images of the places restaurants, hotels, cars I am from Patagonia Argentina you are two thousand years ahead .. Very good everything. Thank you.
I so envy the view from your office....great video again
Great job guys! As someone who is currently getting an instrument rating I can fully appreciate that approach!
Another great video Jim thanks for taking us along for the ride. You guys sure earned your money this trip great contentas usual. Nice to see you back posting. Just show them this video for your recurrent check :).
I wish I could but the recurrent is already done.
Great to hear from you great vids always inspiring difficult atc on the outbound well handles as usual , hope all is well with you and yours 👍
Yes and thanks Robert.
Jim as a filmmaker who was a pilot I appreciate your prowess as a creator of content as well as your aviation skills. Your narration is engaging. Thanks!
Thanks John. I really appreciate that.
Good on you mate. Another good video.
thanksTravis
Thanks jim. Glad everything is well with you. I was worried some thing happen to you. Have a great one. Dt
Thanks Darryl.
Another very well done captain.
Thanks.
Gotta love the approach to minimums. Whew!
That's the payoff to all that instrument training.
Absolutely! @@captmoonbeam
Cheers Jim. Thanks for another great video!
Thanks Tom.
Great videos.
Thanks
Great Video always enjoy them hope all went well in recurrent training
Looking very nice...
Thanks.
@@captmoonbeam Again you are welcome...Fly safe...
Hi Jim, great flight especially the approach - I was on the edge of my seat! Spring is also appearing here in the UK so managed to get some flying in this week in very pleasant conditions. Is it me or have you got new Garmin GTN 750's installed in the panel? - they look really good and I assume also provides you with compliance for the ADS-B mandate? Thanks again for sharing your videos. Best wishes.
Hi Jason. We've had them for about a month and it does give us ADS-B capability.
Long time without the videos. Thank you.-
Thanks, gotta start a new one Monday morning.
Maybe one time you can do a video at FS during recurrent..? Funny, i have watched a zillion of your vids...first time you felt it necessary to come back on screen and "discuss" that app. Ha!
Hi Damon. I've got 4 or 5 short older FlightSafety videos but, it's time for me to do a new one.
Tower was a lot nicer to you than premier1driver. They told him to leave the runway as soon as his nose wheel hit the runway.
Atlanta can be a very busy place.
Being the cyclist I am I enjoy riding to the airport and doing the Loop Road. Nice video.
thanks Rock. it's almost time for me to get my bike out.
Love it Cap!
Captain Jim, another great flight and some good instruction about DH and minimums. Always enjoy your flight videos. Take care. Pastor Dean, Christian Life Church, Kissimmee FL (KISM).
Dang man, if I knew you were coming into Atlanta, I could have spotted you lol
I love Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson, it’s my home town airport
It's a very interesting place to visit.
Thanks for another great video. Just to be clear, if you did not sight the runway before minimums then you needed to perform a missed approach? Would a missed approach put you back again to the same FBO or another airport with better weather?
Now I know, no matter where the passengers wanted to land, if you had not spotted the approach lights, you would have gone missed.. No doubt.
Yes.
Hi Jim ~ What's the minimum RVR for take off in the XL? Admit it, you had plenty of time to go back home and get a dessert. Lol
Why would I go back home when I can have all the Pecan pie I could want in Atlanta.
@13:00 Popeyes!!!! Now everything is going to be just ducky!
I just hate driving thru Atlanta and now I see flying into Atlanta is a nightmare.
But it's not boring.
Warranty issue for that camera,,,send it ..Takesabt 2 weeks ETA for "return process" for most SLR and high end cameras.LESS if buttons dirty..
thanks Michael.
Just found you. You’re awesome!
Capt. Can you count how many times in your career you kept going on a missed approach?
I know I've done more but right now I can only think of 4 in the past 15 years.
Why do displays flicker? Is it just the video recording?
Yes. these are the older CRT tubes for the pilot flight displays and the refresh rate is out of syn with the gopro camera.
The human eye doesn't see the flicker.
Thanks for the reply ive been wondering for a while.
Must be a great feeling going down to 200 ft AGL in IMC. How often does that happen in a year?
It happens most often during the spring and fall. More often, the weather will be too bad to go or somewhere above the approach minimums.
where it tends to be more of a problem is at airports close to a river or large body of water.
Keep flying stay safe come to Rochester sometime check out our local cuisine
Will do.
I notice you've got your ipads mounted down to the side of the yoke. What do you use for mounts? do you have it set up the same on the left?
I don't have a mount on my side. The one Mike uses plugs into a cup holder.
Ok, is that a RAM mount? @@captmoonbeame've got them hanging from the forward side window and it just looked like Mike's position was more convenient.
I found one online, got to check it out. Thx!
Very nice, wish i can do the same.
Thanks
@@captmoonbeam have a nice Sunday here Switzerland LSZH PM 4.47
That is why you get the big bucks...scary
Good point.
Great video !!! I liked the DH comment for Decision Height ! How about changing the annunciator voice to British Female !!! LOL... I don't think your avionics are capable of that ..!!!
probably not but I like the idea.
I've made that same walk----in the murder capital of Georgia.
So now that all the airports have tanked and are a desert wasteland, are the skies clear enough to land my ultralight on the grass strip of the cough sputter cough bahahaha busiest airport in the world? I'm not actually sure I would want to, the runways in the approach videos look as shotty and bumpy as some of the back Georgia roads I drive. Maybe this would be a good time for GDOT to get off their ass and get out there and put a fresh coat of asphalt on them.
Missed approach? Not in their vocabulary.
The one thing I regret is not getting the approach briefing. I briefed and we set up as if we were expecting to go missed. Much better to expect a missed and not have to, than go missed and not be ready.
Always Love and Look Forward to your Videos (Hopefully the Family are all Well )
thanks Jack and yes they are.
I see new Moonbeam video, I press like before watching :-)
Thanks Joe.
Lol I knew when you open that window the 1st thing you were gonna say where is the food lol popeye's get some good chicken
I had to asses the landscape.
I give the Captain a thumbs up for just posting a video!👍
Thanks😎👍
Excellent video Capt. great ATC and landing action perfect! thank you!
thanks Adino.
Great video. Nice to see you back. Hope you are doing well.
Thanks and yes I am.
Thanks for your videos. Used to fly the C- 550,C-650 and Falcon 20 here in Norway. Went to the airlines afterwards. Now, after retirement it`s nice to look at the work you guys do nowadays. I miss some of it, and some I don`t. :-)
I'm always glad when I see another Captain Moonbeam notification. Another A+ video Jim. How difficult is it to land at ATL? More specifically, do they give you an arrival window that you have to make or, do you just file a flight plan and you expect that they will just fit you in somewhere? Also, do you get charged any type of landing fee either from the airport and/or FBO? As always, please keep up the great work sir!
Thanks Tom. They don't have a reservation system but, you could get a ground hold. I was surprised we didn't get one with the level of traffic and the weather. The airport has a landing fee that wasn't much and the FBO has a substantial handling fee. I don't remember the exact dollar amount.
I *ŁøVê* staying at that Renaissance Concourse Hotel that’s right there next to the FBO @ KATL. It’s Amazing watching you guys land in that type weather. I say, “Dang, those guys are really makin their money today!” Just *AmāŽįnG!!!* Thanks 4 sharing Capt! 👨🏽✈️
Thanks Evans.
Yay, missed you Jim!!
Hi Mike.
Great video! Wondering, does it say somewhere on the ILS 8L approach chart that you can decend to 100 ft. if you can see runway markers? Could not find it on the chart (I just found a chart online, so it might not be current)
Michael Schafir that’s actually in the regulations for flying instrument approaches. They basically say that if the approach lights are visible, you can descend below the Decision Altitude to 100 feet above the runway and then hopefully will see the runway (or 9 other items listed in the regs) to be able to continue to land. Check out this link that does a better job than me explaining it! www.boldmethod.com/learn-to-fly/navigation/when-can-you-go-below-mins-instrument-approach/
Whats the deal with the Pilot Flying calling the approach lights? Seems odd to have both crew members looking outside at the bottom of the approach....
Yup, you guys are the real deal. I bet your channel would grow if it was more technical and less "behind the scenes". Corporate Pilot Life has a good format where he shows more in-depth cockpit and a little bit of the extra stuff. Not sure how interested people are in watching you exercise and eat. Either way, keep the videos coming. The flying is really good stuff. Nice work!
I am a new subscriber. I just recently found your channel and I am enjoying it. I'm not a pilot and I know nothing about flying. I just like planes. In some of your videos you go through quite a time making connections and plans changing . Do you have to set up your commercial flights and motels and car rentals or does the company you fly for do that? I am looking forward to catching up with your past videos.
Still want to know what's with this owner and the 2 character N numbers.
Thank you for reply god bless you and happy new year 🎊🎈🎆
Nice flight capt moonbean that controller was good lots of clouds lots of delta flights up there to landing well done wonderful thxs
Thanks. we were going through lots of layers and the temperature kept changing. Ant-ice OFF/Anti-ice OFF.
Loved the trip. One of the more exciting ones we've been on . Exciting landing . I was born in Georgia so enjoyed the trip immensely.
Thanks Joseph.
In all of my times into Hartsfield, I have never had a ceiling THAT low, thank heavens! Great job and quick reactions!
thanks Kenneth. May all your ceilings be higher than that.
High workload day for the controllers.
If you see any heat down there - tell them ship to Canada! Great flight, SIr!
I think the heat is slowly staring to move.
Thanks for the video. I'm going to watch it tonight when I catch up on UA-cam Videos.
Thanks Joe. Pop some pop corn, its a long one.
Great Video, as always. Was a bit...weird?....hearing being All Business during that Approach. He's always so laid back on the comms but, such is the way flying into the World's Busiest Airport, ESPECIALLY in a "Dinky" Business Jet ;)
Thanks, definitely want to stay alert in that type environment.
Where is the FCU on the glareshield ?
You don't often see VLOGs with descent to minimums. Still, you did a great job, the runway was right where it was supposed to be.
I admit I've not been watching your videos as much as I used to, but all the aviation Vloggers are in the same position, so nothing personal. :) I did see that N9U now has a couple of GTN 750s, and what looks like a UNS-1? Is that the backup, now?
Also saw N2U on Controller for sale. I had seen where you said they were getting rid of it. Did they buy a new one? Didn't have that many hours on it.
Anyway, always enjoy watching your stuff, Jim.
thanks Gary. Yes on all counts. This week we are going to look at a Challenger 300 for sale. That may be the M2's replacement.
I don't like KATL, too big & crowded. It would be nice to have to have Cessna add approaching minimums and then minimums like big jets have. I did 👂 hear minimums tho. Just a thought.
Jet...
I prefer the less crowded airports also.
Wow. First time I have ever been first on one of these comments.great video. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Greg.
Anyone know the song? The description says David Cutter "Into the Light" but it is not popping up. I've been searching everywhere using shazam and every song finder with no luck. Please help :(
I downloaded it off his Patreon site. don't know if its available anywhere else.I
That's the way you fly the ILS down to minimums ! The DH was questionable but all went well and I am sure your passengers were happy. Bummer getting to the airport 2 hours early for your SW flight to Atlanta. I guess it goes with the territory. Good luck at Flight Safety for your recurrent training!
thanks James. I can I'd much rather spend those 2 hours at the airport than many places I can think of.
Wow! My wife and I walk that same strip almost everyday. It would have been nice to have met you to walk, talk and gain first hand knowledge from you. Oddly enough, my wife is also from St Louis. As always...great video! I look forward to the next one.
Hi Brian. Sorry I missed you. I was a beautiful day to get some exercise.
One of the best aviation channels
Thanks.
captmoonbeam you’re welcome captain 👨🏻✈️
Race weekend was extremely foggy. The Thursday before the races all flights were diverting into KATL couldnt get into PDK.
It was a mess.
Yeah, it was busy there this time! Hehehe...Yeah lunch time...I hear you to guys...
Atlanta is always rockin and rollin
Yikes. As a local Atlanta resident and professional driver, that is NOT the part of town I'd be out walking around in. I won't even stop at that RaceTrac gas station you were by. It's not really safe at all...
Hi Matt. we didn't have a car so we walked everywhere for meals. I didn't know the area had a reputation till we got back.
Always a pleasure to be on board with you, Captain.
It's always a pleasure having you along.
Did you say, "Lunch Rush"?
another great video !!
Hi Jim... good to see you. Ready for Spring? 10:4 on that :)
Thanks for the ride-along - sure was sketchy visibility on Atlanta approach. Return flight better for sure - Mike did good.
As usual, love your little interest bits in the edits. Stay safe.
Thanks Chris. Huge difference the next day.
Not safe to walk in East Point... hotel treadmill safer, just saying
I fell for the blue sky and warm temperatures.
A great video from a great pilot :-)
Thanks Gr.
Go Chick Fil A ,,your advertisers will approve...
One of my favorites.
Nicely done. What headset is the pilot in left seat wearing?
WOW... that was the lowest ceiling I have ever seen on your approaches. I was on a flight into DFW a long time ago and had similar conditions.
I saw the ground about three seconds before touchdown.
Was just looking at N2U for sale on Controller and now get to see a new video. I think you guys need a Sovereign+ , that would make for some nice vids
If you get the chance, stay at the Renaissance Hotel on the field and get a room overlooking the field. A hand held radio and some beverages, and you've got yourself a good time.
Nice flying and much better glasses also. 👍
Thanks on both counts Max.
Can’t go wrong with Popeyes! Great editing work Sir! Wish I knew how to vlog 😂Subscribing now
