- I had several requests for this one, so here it is! I show you the basic structure first, but this is a bit looser in performance than any of the prior ones. Stay loose and get a bit funky on this one.
0:00 Intro
0:24 Verses
1:20 Second verse - Chorus
1:52 Bridge
3:25 Outro/Fade
3:54 Whole song with backing
I've been waiting for an adequate tutorial for this song for a very long time. Thanks James! Nice job.
Thanks, yet another SD classic
i learned 7 chords and a lot of the extended chord voices
from all your Steely Dan tutorials =)
You are very talented and quite helpful to a beginner/intermediate student like me
Thank you, that's why I did them to begin with. Gotta keep this great music alive!
I've been using your Steely Dan tutorials for a while now, keep it up man! Love it!
Thanks. Working on another now, hopefully next week.
So glad to see this song! :) incredible job as always
Impressed by the accuracy of those voicings on the bridge
Thank you! Hope it helped.
Just Stellar. Thank You..
You're quite welcome!
I think yours is the best, closest tutorial, those high inversions- fills on the original recording, was why I wanted to learn this, as I am a guitarist. Thanks!
Thank you. I was actually playing it wrong for many years before I really listened for the tutorial. So I learn things as well! Thanks for watching!
All I want for Christmas is more tutorials
Lol. All I want for Christmas is my Kronos back! It’s in the shop now, randomly dies on me. Not good when playing live! I have 3/4 of Aja done and it’s killing me!
Is there any sheet music that accompanies this? Would be an amazing help, paired with the amazing tutorial
This is really cool! Thanks so much!
Glad you like it!
For the F9/13 chord, I always get confused because many others play F6/9 instead without the Eb. Especially during that bar of the guitar solo, Larry plays E in his licks. But what you played sounds better though.
Thanks James, your voicings have really helped me a lot here. Now, I need to sing the lead vocal over playing it...which should be fun :(
Thanks. Glad I could help!
Please we need more tutorials, I’ll pay💰
How did you set that up? Split obv, but what are the namez? I use native instruments for tone
I still had my Kronos when I did this one. The Clav patch was actually called Kid Char. The Rhodes patch I tweaked a factory patch to get the right sound. I don’t own NI, I have Arturia and Pianotec as my main BSTs now.
James, can we expect a new tutorial soon?😁
Working on AJA right now! Hopefully this week.
Tremendous! Though at $5 a gallon, I'm not sure if there's gas in the car!
Ahh! - Must be a California viewer! Still a little under $4 here in Colorado. Probably not for long, though :(
Thanks! This is proverbial gas in the car for a beginner like me!
As another viewer commented, that gas in the car is getting priceless! In today's world, somehow "Is my car plugged in? Is it full to the brim?" just wouldn't cut it!
I'd love to see you offer "Your Gold Teeth 2." It's a masterpiece.
I will keep it in mind for the future. I think AJA will be next
Great sound,, maybe hold the chords a little longer when showing the tutorial part though
