I test casted the 3wt and compared it with my 3wt superfine glass. It’s definitely faster and lighter than the SFG. Both are great rods but if you want a super accurate, light, dry fly rod the graphite is probably better. I feel the glass has its place as a more classic feeling rod. It’s definitely gonna be way more durable and it feels like it has the capacity to lift larger and heavier rigs. Given the option between the two I’d still pick the glass just for that classic feel

If glass is your thing, it’s tough to beat it the SFG! This will definitely be a welcome addition for small stream guys who don’t like glass as much.

I just bought a 7’6” 3 wt. graphite superfine and it is the softest(slowest) superfine I’ve ever had, which is great, but it has almost too light of a swing weight. Casts well. I’ve had every iteration of superfine since 1980, and virtually every model. The rod is very unattractive, however. I’ve owned about 30 superfine graphite rods and some fiberglass. Don’t like fiberglass because it’s clunky, and imprecise. Also, the new fiberglass superfines are too fast, and a 3 weight has the thickness of an 8 weight blank. I aldo bought the 7’ 3 weight superfine bamboo rod, and it’s the best 3 weight I’ve ever owned. It also has a hookeeper, which is also lacking on the Helios and superfine graphites and fiberglass. Orvis has stopped listening to its customers. I just sent back the 7’6” 3 weight Helios, because it’s just too fast.
