- games like animal crossing... we tried hokko life, ooblets, my time in portia, palia, my time on frog island, and cozy grove, but can any of these live up to animal crossing new horizons?
/ rocketelijah - Ігри
I feel like a lot of these are trying to be more of a harvest moon replacement, not really animal crossing so they're not going to hit that sweet spot.
But you're totally right about ooblets, it's a great game to experience for what it is!
Ooblets is one of my fav games ever. It was not meant to be like acnh lol
Sandrock and Portia are more Harvest Moonlike or Startdew like than Animal Crossinglike. I really enjoyed Portia, and own Sandrock, but stagger sequels for my streams.
16:56 - The issue there is, in part, an indie team vs. a full AAA team. Indie devs can only put so much into it.
The answer is Dinkum, its animal crossing but australia, including the parts that want you dead
Is it on switch? Cause that sounds both fun and horrifying.
@SonderGira it's still being developed so they probably won't put it on Switch for a long while.
@@SonderGira It's on steam! Its still in early access but honestly its completely worth it, rlly fun game.
@@therealsoul666 I'll check it out when I get my laptop fixed!
I opened the comments just to see if someone said this. Dinkum is THE correct answer the Animal Crossing inspiration is very clear.
I guess the big key to "Animal Crossing" feeling type of game is being personalized. Most of the game like hokko life, portia etc doesn't have the essence of it being an "within player personalization", instead it's outside world that can be personalized.
Animal crossing isn't just talking animals, collections, building, farming, decorating. The essence of it comes from the personalization of your own character and how immersive it is.
Catalogues refreshing everyday and you get to choose what YOU wanna buy and dress up, you can change how you wanna look like, the relationship with the animals, the daylight cycles and all NPCs have their own routine (closing/opening shops, sleeping, doing exercise in the morning etc), and you get to choose what you want to do for the day. These are also kinda present in Persona, and it's what makes it feel bit close to Animal Crossing despite being a very far genre.
I think it's the personalization and immersion of the game is what makes us keep coming back, and when it's dry we keep looking for games with THESE aspects actually, not so much farming and stuff. Of course we're also looking for those but I think most players love most about AC, Persona is being able to live a new immersive life in a video games.
I thought it meant animal crossing horror games tbh
This is an old game and it’s kind of hard to find (*cough* legally) but you might really enjoy Magician’s Quest: Mysterious Times!
It’s a game for ds that came out a few years after wild world and it’s clearly very influenced by animal crossing! It’s very fun! I highly recommend it!
Do you know where I can find it for a decent price that isn’t a Japanese version?
@@QueenSix811Js mod your 3ds or find an emulator 😂, it's very rare and expensive now
Yesss omg I just got into it after I got my 3ds and was looking for cozy games. So similar to acnh but fun with magic
I'm impressed Disney dream Light Valley was not mentioned, since it's the animal crossing for Disney characters.
Though the Premium shop and the game price are a realy big donwside
Persona 5 in a animal crossing video? With no sponsor? It’s more likely than you think~ 😏
oh I thought this was a animal crossing KILLER games like HORROR games
Everything you said about P5R is accurate and can also be said about the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series
Check out Dinkum, it’s Aussie Animal Crossing. Including the part where everything wants you dead. 😂 nothing like getting chased back to home base by an angry dinosaur bird.
For real. How did he miss Dinkum? Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed the video. But I agree, if you want more Animal Crossing, go play Dinkum.
I know EXACTLY what these games are missing: villagers that call you 'mud' because you didn't speak to them for one (1) day! (/joking. the last bit is a true story, one of the snooty villagers in my acww town called me mud for ignoring her)
I played stardew valley and it is definitely more of a harvest moon/ rune factory staple but if you start it than it kinda has a way of making you go alright one more in game day
Stardew is such an easy game to play for hours. I love it so much. Can’t wait for 1.6 to come out on consoles.
i misinterpreted the title and thought this was gonna be about those dark animal crossing parody games 😭😭😭 i was so excited
Have you seen the trailer for Tales of the Shire???? Hobbit animal crossing!!! I'm stoked! I know it's coming out on ps5, trailer is on the PlayStation channel. Not sure what other formats. Looks like I might have up get a ps5.
It's coming out for the Switch, too!! I watched the Nerd of the Rings analysis video and it was listed!!
@@emmielaine7352 oh you just made my day!!!! I'll gladly check it out !
@@diannalynnYT Yay!! God bless, have a good one 😄
It's mor Hobbit Story of Seasons / Stardew valley
Persona came out in the 1996 Animal Crossing came out 2001. 😂
Cozy Grove is the game I go back to when I'm not playing ACNH!
Guy who hasn’t played anything other than animal crossing: OMG this game is just like animal crossing
Yeah... This video giving me exactly same thoughts. Like... Dude. Why you need a replacement for Animal Crossing if you want Animal Crossing? "This game is nice but no one will come back to it it's not hitting the same spot!!!" and "It's not Animal Crossing"wow really dude? No shit!
I'm glad that you address Hokko Life in this video. I think it's an issues that needs to be addressed. You've found the right words, this is kinda like a relief for me.
Hokko Life is such a difficult game.
I find it difficult to describe or categorise Hokko Life. Everything about this game feels off to me.
If you look at this game from an objective point of view from way up high, it's a good cozy game with lots of things to do and aspects that are great sn Animal Crossing.
But as mentioned in the video, all of that is like a knock-off. The game has no essence in my eyes. It doesn't feel like a real game. I'll go as far as to say that if we lived in a Rick & Morty-like parallel universe where there was no Animal Crossing, that would be our Animal Crossing. But that would be an aspect of our parallel universe that would be worse. And it wouldn't be good for our society either😂
Imagine how the pandemic would have gone without AC or what society would be like without AC to balance it out🤯😂
Another thing that bothers me about Hokko Life is the gameplay.
I can't stand the gameplay. It's so... SO. I can't even describe it. And everything turns inside me when I think about it.
What I can clearly criticise about the gameplay is the pacing.
It's difficult to get anywhere. It's not because the game is challenging or offers a lot to keep you busy and entertained, it's just badly done.
And what the game offers you, no matter how far you get, is boring. I don't find any enjoyment in this game.
I got the game because of "AC Burnout" and tried it out and got to the point where you unlock the island. And it was okay, but it was boring and I have no fucking idea how to progress. And I have no incentive to want to find out.
And that's so contradictory to what I initially said about the game. That's the reason why I find the game so difficult.
I think you can say that the game is only a good cozy game from a distance, but if you take a closer look and try it out, you'll realise at some point that it's not a good game. It's cursed, it's demo-like, it has good approaches, but it's not a real game.
it even looks soulless. Everything doesn't look fully rendered 😭
I just bought the game thanks to your video Elijah! Can’t wait to play it!
One game that scratches that Animal Crossing itch, for me at least, is Garden Paws. It's like if Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley had a baby! Lots of cute animals, town rebuilding quests, play with friends or solo.
tbf a lot of the charm of games like AC is just the big fan base. What makes AC great is 60% marketing. We could hype any game like that and then care as much about it. Smaller titles always have difficulty to create communities. you know where anyone even cares about turnip prices and such… that shit loses all its meaning when the fan base isn't grand.
I just got Cozy Grove and Time on Frog Island on sale! They’re like 75% off so you can basically get both for the price of one. Sale goes till may 9!
i swear i tried something to replace animal crossing new horizons turns out the only answer was ACNL
ive played my time at portia, its got a whole plot with quests and is NOT supposed to be like animal crossing
"6 hour binge sessions" they get me
I actually don't really like crafting mechanics as I feel that they just make things far more tedious and frankly, boring. For this reason, and the fact that there's a little less emphasis on customising and more on socialising, I like Animal Crossing's earlier installments. I'd love a game that hits that spot for me.
Cozy Grove and Frog Island are the closest games to what I am looking for, but not quite.
💯 with the Persona series. P4 was one a cozy recommended list and it was amazing. Lots of cozy vibes mixed in with that classic Persona horror. Over a year on and playing Persona 3 reload after finishing P5 royal and P3 on portable. It’s definitely action but the fact is pises at each turn makes it more chill since if it gets too intense you can step back and chill before resuming
I actully enjoyed sandrock alot more than portia, and i dont usually like desert settings, but thats the pull of it, its in a desert so water is a very limited resource you can either buy or make.
14:05 "My Time at Desert Storm" would be the title of my step-dad's autobiography
Cozy Grove's art style reminds me of Don't Starve, that's interesting. It kinda makes me expect times to maul me though lol.
Then again, maybe I'm only reminded of it because of the hand drawn art style and the way the character runs really reminds me of that game.
It looks so much like Don't Starve I had to look up if it was by the same people. It is not, but was very inspired by Don't Starve!
Ooblets is too grindy for my liking, but Dreamlight valley really hits the spot for me.
When you described Frog Island i immediately thought of Amphibia
PERSONA 5 ROYAL REC LET'S GOOOOO
ok but seriously, i agree with you, and it was one of the reasons my friends said i would enjoy it (i do, but also have massive anxiety so i have a lot of saves lol) but literally every point you made, 100%! my other issue w it rn is my switch is in french so the game is in french, and i'm not comfortable in my french to play without ruining something since your choices MATTERS SO MUCH, so i haven't played it. otherwise, i fully agree! and might actually see if i can either change the language in game or just be okay with making choices in french bc i miss playing it so much
I know and also #MAKEFALLGUYSPOPULARAGAIN
Haven’t watched and idc about the premise of the video I’m just here to say I recently got ooblets and I love it
Where was Palia? It’s one of my favourites right now!!
I think just like tf2, the animal crossing killer is going to be the company that made it
Hokko Life: _Animal Crossing at Home_
Another game similar to these and animal crossing is Fae Farm
Hokko life was the first time i ever dropped a game because the NPC designs genuinely unsettled me, doesn't help i bought it when it was still early access and hoped that would change but it never did
i played my time in portia like once and then never played it agian lol
animal crossing started development in 2012, so when did ooblets. On the 12th month, on 31st day of 2019???
Love animal crossing but it's so self-limiting that anything else would be better.
Persona 5 is NOT a cozy game, be warned
I'm honestly surprised you didn't mention games like stardew valley or harvest moon since people compare those to animal crossing ALL the time, even though theyre very different. Something I noticed in this video is that all of them focus on the building up the town thing that new horizons focuses on, and not what started off animal crossing - the villagers, your relationships with them and feeling like youre part of the town. That's the charm thats missing from all of this animal crossing copy cats (and new horizons lol..)
Persona is not anything like animal crossing haha - im assuming you just mentioned it as an excuse to talk about it lol
I have spent IDK how may hours trying to get into P5R, and I just can't. It doesn't have a level system, which I HATE. It has a timer that I HATE.
Nintendo also has decades behind them in game development and marketing that is very... "Nintendo"-esque.
There won't be any game studio that is able tio capture that
How to connect server, my hokko life keep error pls help
Okay, how? The camera at 9:23 rotates rather than just pitching up and down. How???
100 days in new leaf?
Persona 5 so good.
when a game that allows me to be a character from Animal Crossing or an animal in the Animal Crossing world, then I'll play something outside of Animal Crossing, till then, I plan to mod Animal Crossing on an emulator and play legit vanilla Animal Crossing on an actual Switch, yes I have it both ways, I pay for multiplayer games and I like the game of course, but sometimes the Switch emulator allows me to mod games without buying a hacked Switch, and I can try before buying in a ways, plus it's a good backup to games I already have bought on the actual Switch
What’s a switch emulator and how do you use it?
@@imlostpeople4368 it's like any other emulator of a console, it basically makes its own version of a console's system code in order to run ROMs of videogames for consoles, PC has the most emulators due to its power, while phones and Quest 2 have received emulators, even the steamdeck, they aren't as advanced as the PC, you can modify most old consoles with emulators as well, so for example you can play NES Mario on PC or Super Mario Sunshine GameCube on PC, or PS2 God Of War on PC or even the PS3 remaster of God Of War PS2 on PC
Persona? Half these games are not close to animal crossing at all….
It's so funny that i hated most of this games
Honestly, when I first played Hokko Life (haven't played it since, actually) it was the eyes that bothered me the most. Their eyes look lifeless and they lack any sort of character because every character has the same exact fursuit-eyes. It overall felt kind of bland and like a poor clone of Animal Crossing, so I just didn't play it again. Pretty disappointed in it, if I'm being completely honest. lol
hokko life is overhated imo. even tho the game can be glitchy, i enjoy it a lot and play it when i burn out on new horizons
You missed the entire charm of Cozy Grove :( I have over 200 hours. Each day is a reward. The collections are massive and season based, giving you reasons to play daily. Sad. L.
Maybe I need to give it another try
Cute 0:33
I think..rather for me to find new games ill just work backwards.. try ever oasis
i fucking loooooove ooblets
I'm not sure which came first, but there is a Persona 5 anime.
Persona as a series has been out since the late 90s, and the anime(s) is(/are) always based on the game(s).
Wow 0:23
YAY! OMGG!
ooblets is better single player
Persona 5 became my favorite game of all time after I beat it!
I am the 23rd person who commented .
I tried hokko and found it too glitchy and hard to follow so eventually gave up. I also played Palia from early on but I found most of the fanbase toxic so I eventually gave up as I felt really left out or bullied 😂☠️. My annoyance with most games is they try and dictate how you should play the game so they make it super slow as they want you to play multiple times instead of in one giant sitting and I understand for them that’s the ideal but it’s not for me who’s bored doing a night shift and wants to play my 30 dollar game the way I want to play it. Idk that’s just my thoughts and feelings
wow I’m early
I love persona 5, I do think you should update the video or pin a comment about some of the content. The game is really really heavy, it touches on some hella mature topics and issues. Everyone will see the rating but I was honestly really taken aback at some of the content. It’s still a good game and I enjoy it but folks should be aware: there’s mentions of self-deletion, eating “issues” and plenty of other mature content.
