i love the vibe, the aesthetic of it... but i think it must be like some kind of shitposting at this point... oh, wait, he already mentioned it's like they don't want people to like them jsjs
As a metal fan I hate it when other metal fans call you a poser for liking popular artists like Black Sabbath and Metallica instead of some swiss band called Smoking Baby Corpse or something
Fun fact as a metal head. I have a shirt and i have no idea what band it is for. Neither does my partner. We can't read it. And we have no memory of where we got it.
I know, lmao. I love Wayne, but nowadays, his features are very hit or miss, and they have been for around 5 years. Also him melting down recently has jaded me. Still love him tho. Undeniable talent
It was so weird hearing that Jelly Roll is now apparently a popular country artist. I listened to him back when he was a rapper and eventually just lost the taste for his stuff, now I have to double check like “is this the same guy?”
I’m actually a fan of country, but not any of the crap you mentioned. Legends like Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Jimmy Dean, and Willie Nelson. Prime country of people who fit the vibe (people who genuinely seemed to care about their music and beliefs) and spent years performing and writing songs near and dear to them. I completely agree with you that modern country is mostly garbage.
@@rainbowunicorn2945 hi! vocaloid is a music genre created by using voicebanks to sing in the song! for example: writing the lyrics and making the beat but using the vocasynth software to make hatsune miku's voicebank said the words!! (i cant tell if you don't understand what vocaloid music is or you are just saying it is so bad it doesn't count as music 😭)
I'm a jazz fan, but I'm open to different forms of Jazz. I like Electro-Swing, for example. And I think there's nothing wrong with writing anything down to save/preserve something. There are so many wonderful things in history we don't have full/good records of bc people just didn't record it/write it down. But, I'll be honest, if you ask me what jazz I usually listen to, it IS the original jazz tunes. But that doesn't mean I can't enjoy other forms of it as well.
@@redhivewarriorjazz is much better when improvised imo, it is nice to write down/record great improvisations tho so you can preserve a great improvisation
What about Folk Music (Country's slightly more respectable brother) and Classical Music (every music genre's pretentious grandpa who walked to and from school uphill both ways and in a snowstorm)? What are your thoughts on those?
Can't forget about Bluegrass! Half of it is finding literally anything to give a song words so you can dance to it (from dying of a disease during the Great depression to "gosh I love my wife") and the other half is just playing with an INSANE level of skill and speed.
Folk is better and what country used to be, love Folk. John Denver, Johnny cash, and all of them (I know Johnny Cash isn’t really folk but compared to nowadays he is to me)
We're a "metal" band but genre is such a funny thing. Genre's are helpful descriptors but also sometimes limiting because people expect something out of it. If you are doom then the riffs better be fuzzy or slow. If you are thrash then it better be fast etc. That's why we just made our own genre up and called it "Groovy Sexy Viking Funk Amish Doom Rock" and just let our music do the talking. With a genre like that we can do our own thing.
To be fair, what you said about metal was kinda true but most metal heads are genuinely chill and absolutely love it when someone starts to get into metal. Unfortunately, some idiots (gatekeepers-the people you were describing) want to keep the genre as exclusive as possible even though everyone else is just trying to have a good time. And even though your not a metal head, you chose two killer albums to represent metal.
To Playfully jab at the Kpop genre, I would like to say it is absolutely just boy bands with added Asian fetishism, also genuinely curious WHY are all your CDs not the shape CDs should be? Like there's no consistency in the CD shape for Kpop and like, HOW do you store them on like a regular CD rack?
Metalhead here, I'd like to take this chance to explain metal to people who may be interested or want to get into it, In terms of genres and how to identify them you need to focus on the main sound, average heavy metal is very light and often has a huge focus in terms of rock so if you don't see any drastic changes within the music and it just sounds like harder rock it's most likely heavy metal, doom metal is very noticeable as it takes a focus onto being incredibly slow and atmospheric on a focus of sounding evil, thrash metal often has a focus on speed so if you listen to the music and it seems very fast and the singer is singing fast then it's most likely thrash, early death metal has huge inspirations to thrash but you can often tell it's death metal from it's punchier sound, when death metal had fully developed the best way to separate it from other metal genres is to focus on the tone and the singer cause often the singer in death metal will focus on making their voice sound low and there's often a lot more power chords from guitar and you can tell from how the guitar sounds that it focuses on punchyness in order to get that specific sound and the drums in death metal are often blast beats, grindcore is sort of a mix between metal and punkish and its often very fast but unlike thrash this genre has a lot more blast beats. Slam metal is where you'll mostly find those "illegible" band logos and is often just death metal but evolved as they focus on the heaviness of the sounds so you'll hear the vocalist do sounds that don't even sound human, you'll hear a lot of harmonica and palms muted from the guitar and while most of the drums are blasts beats there are slow parts, power metal is just fantasy and dragons basically, groove metal is very weird but as the name explains very groovy as there are often very unique riffs and they often focus on being on the beat more then any other genre, prog metal is very experimental as there are often changes in the time signature and the guitarists like to mess around a lot and make incredibly unique riffs, djent isn't a genre, metalcore is weird, during the early 2000s there was a lot of focus on harmony and a lot of people may mistake it for emo music, nowadays it sort of focuses on being a lot similar to pop while also using a lot of synths and simple guitar riffs. Deathcore is literally just metal core if it was a mix between death and slam, glam metal is very 80s, just think a lot of hairspray and rock'n'roll and you've basically gotten glamrock down, stoner metal is very similar to doom however it focuses on being very low and slow and can be described as stoning music but for metal, sludge is very in between thrash and death, it's like diet death in a way but still contains some of the heavyness of death but also mixed themes of doom metal, black metal is basically death metal if it was inverted except for the drum part, the singers in black often use a shreaking sound instead of the usual growls and the guitar tone feels very light and lacks a lot of punchyness while focusing on power chords for guitar riffs, nu metal is basically hip-hop mixed with metal or hard rock
As for reading slam logos you often wanna try to make out shapes of letters within the logo that are distorted, and often there's a pattern to reading them for example the pattern for facelift deformation is word in the middle curving down up down, and word at the bottom curving up down up with the first letter of the second word being in front of the first letter of the first word
And if you want to listen to any of them, make it prog or djent because the good bands in those seas of slop are better than ALL of the other bands in the world (sidenote: he wasnt wrong because every time i think about how cool it would be if metal was normalized i imagine a world where all the metal bands sell out and i shudder. i want the people around me to like metal but i want it outside of the mainstream forever)
The Metal Community imo is something to never touch online with a ten foot pole but I swear every metal head I’ve met irl is the most chill mf ever idk what happens for the online community to be the opposite.
Metal heads are generally trying to fit a persona which is a lot easier online when they can’t actually see you and you have no real social consequences.
@@jacobherr6117no, no, he’s right. I am an absolute metalhead, but I don’t care for the stereotypes metalheads are out to. As a metal fan, I hate elitism. In the modern metal scene, bands like Sleep Token, Bad Omens, Bring Me The Horizon, and many more are quite popular, and people are called posers for liking them rather than bands like Cut My Neck or Dead Toddler Syndrome or something. There are a lot of chill people in the metal scene depending on the sub genre, and in my favorite genres, mainly modern metalcore, it is easy enough to find out the assholes and just avoid them because the chill people also happen to make the best music.
BRO YES IVE LOVED BMTH SINCE LIKE 2008 and this is just now a problem bc they are “sell outs” just bc they grew as a band and got softer in the process, and sleep token is fire asf. Vessel makes me wanna cry his lyrics are so good and emotional
@@AlexTerribly_metal Sleep Token's lyrics are very good, but I think his voice is even better. It's so unique and so rich, when most other metal vocalists have shallower tones.
There is no bad music. Just music you don't like. Every genre has a fanbase. Also I listen to rap, rock, a lot of metal, country. I guess I just enjoy auditory whiplash going from metal to country
As someone who loves jazz, I clicked on this fully expecting jazz to be on here lol (I get why people don’t like it but in my opinion it’s one of the best genres)
regardless of genre i hate when people i like "erm you're favourite song is his/her biggest song??? ewwwwwww, POSTERHEAD OVER HERE, NOT A TRUE FANNN OVER HEREE" like stfu i can like kanye without telling you the lore of his albums, his mothers impact/death and his 1997 freestyle 1 view never released song doesnt have to be my favourie.
Gosh I'm not a big fan of when that happens, but if I just so happen to love a bands top song without knowing it's their top song then that's cool, however you might get called fake for liking it so there's no in-between...but who cares though, Whether we like the top songs or their obscure songs it shouldn't matter.
As someone who listens mostly to punk and loves it, yeah, it’s complicated, no, we’re not all jerks, and yes, there absolutely are still political messages (politics are a big part of punk culture, hence the political patches like anarchism symbols on punk clothing). If you want a modern example of political punk music One Nation by Pinkshift is great. (Pinkshift is great in general). I mostly say it’s complicated because there all a lot of sub-genres (pop punk, punk rock, folk punk, etc.), but, generally, punk music is just energetic, emotional, and a bit distasteful (not in a negative way, cause that’s the point). Again, I love punk, but the whole point of a lot of punk music is being explicit to address issues that people don’t want to address because it makes them uncomfortable (ex: first verse of Hated by Yungblud). Most punks I’ve seen aren’t jerks (if they understand the core values) because punk culture has a big emphasis on authenticity, respect, and integrity (at least from my viewpoint). Core values are anti-corporation, anti-capitalist, anti-conformity, (usually anti-gov), pro-rights and liberation, and just generally being yourself. Everyone has their own definition of being punk though cause there is a weird paradox about putting an anti-conformity group in a box (hence conforming it to a single notion). To put it in a box, it’s a bunch of people that thought ‘You know, I don’t care about what society says, I’m gonna dress how I think looks cool and talk about the things I think are important.’
As a punk, I find it hard to tell people that I am because of all the weird connotations. Especially when I tell people I'm straight edge lol thats a whole can of worms.
I'm a pretentious metalhead and the only part of the video that made me mad was when you said midwest emo grew out of emo pop (it well predates it) Also shoutout Facelift Deformation they're awesome
when i worked in heavy manufacturing we had huge, huge fans that were made of what seemed like mostly solid steel since it got really hot in there. I pointed at it, and told my coworker that that's what I was. A big metal fan (he didn''t laugh)
Having listened to Country my entire life, you're 100% spot on. The Bro Country movement (starting with Cruise) just sent us right down the shitter. We were about a quarter of the way there, but Florida Georgia Line just lubed the tubes right on up for us. Do I still listen to it? Of course, mama didn't raise no quitter, but I still feel dead inside about it, so. Y'know.
I do think he is completely wrong by saying “country has pop in it” like look back at the good days of Country, like the 50-70s, it’s just pure country
They used to play at a bar i worked at, right before they got super big. Shitty music, shitty people. I can't stand pop country, but I'll get down to Tyler Childers or Charlie Crockett any day
I had the issue of every other song in the 90s was about beer, my lady took off with my dog, beer, and/or tractor, or she thinks my dog, beer, and/or tractor’s sexy. But I also might have childhood trauma from being forced to learn to line dance to Achy Breaky Heart and other country songs in gym class in school.
I think I can speak for us all when I say we demand part 2, part 3, part 4, ect, I expect Goth, Industrial, Dark Wave, Taylor Swift who appears to be her own genre, Polka.... basically allllllllllll the genres, thank you.
Mostly enjoy EDM here and yeah, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. There are so many sub genres I just gave up trying to figure out which ones I liked. I dead ass saw someone call their music frenchcore once. Of the genres I do understand though I really do love house, kawaii future bass and HiTech
Oh yeah frenchcore is a genuine major subgenre of hardcore that just happened to start in france (& the netherlands), the big things that distinguish it from other hardcore subgenres is a fast speed (not as fast as speedcore) & weird/offbeat bass sounds afaik
As someone who listens to both country and rap the Kendrick thing is maybe true or he’s the goat and the country thing lil nas x and Beyoncé aren’t fucking country
As someone who loves country music among other genres, I think personally, PERSONALLY, that the best country was the 80s about earlier. My favorites are John Denver, Johnny Cash, and that era. Again this is my own personal opinion that country is better without electric guitars and all of the theatrics.
I am 15 and 100% agree with you. I love Merle, Travis, cash, lefty, Willie, Waylon, kristifferson, jones, etc. all my fiends love rap music but I’ll take old country over that garbage any day
As a country fan, country fans have been saying “I like the old stuff” since there barely was any old stuff. It’s practically a tradition at this point! There’s plenty of bad country music from the era of those classic country legends, it was just forgettable and thus soon forgotten. Not to muddy your point, but electric guitars have been a major feature in country music since the 50s. I recommend looking into Waylon Jennings, Buck Owens, and Gary Stewart for some great examples. Also, 70s country rock (Flying Burrito Brothers, Cowboy, Danny O’Keefe) seems like it might be your jam. Welcome to the rabbit hole, my friend, there’s some amazing art ahead of you.
Probably because back then country had actual social commentary or narrative value like how 9 to 5 by Dolly was pretty critical of capitalism and workers exploitation and Johny Cash’s Folson Prison Blues was about bringing awareness to how bad our prison system is. Now a days Country has the same old lyrics and melody and tend to really lean into that conservative/republican aesthetic that gives it a bad name. At least thats my opinion
About jazz music, I think that if you listen to more modern jazz artists you can really enjoy its blend of other genres such as hip-hop. What I'm trying to say is listen to Domi and JD Beck their music is beyond amazing
Thanks for those suggestions :) Modern Jazz discovery is really hard because of how the genre has basically died, but I like trying out modern stuff in the scene. You probably have already listened to him, but in my opinion the most exciting living jazz musician is Kamasi Washington, so if you haven't listened to his work I implore you to change that.
As an aspiring EDM producer and a huge EDM fan, I'm not offended at all by your calling us out for having so many subgenres, because that's what happens when you can just make up instruments on a computer. I also think you should try bridging the gap between Waterflame and Space Laces. It's lot more of a gap between artists than deadmau5 and Daft Punk lol.
rap oldheads are very obsessed with talking about how bad new rap is and how it's all the same which is bogus cuz for example Chromakopia by Tyler The Creator sounds nothing like GNX by Kendrick Lamar
@@Interdacted what are your favorite songs or artists? i’d guess that you either don’t listen to a lot of rap or you focus on just the mid parts. there are common topics but if you look at any respected artists or songs it’s way more than just that
@1c0nic_player I listened to a bunch before but haven't recently. Stuff like madd maxxx, emeinem, mf doom, Kendrick, lil Wayne, lil uzi, Tyler, snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, juice wrld. To many to remember.
ppl who say that old stuff is unequivocally better are just wrong. the only actual argument is over saturation and that’s both not that big a deal and easily ignorable on an individual level
If you want a good example of a *good* metal community, go look at the metal community around Opal In Sky. The Opalinsky twins are great at educating people on what metal music is actually about, and also they hate gatekeeping metalheads, which makes them even cooler.
PLEASE make a part two tugg i need more of your deranged music takes like what about bands who just don’t have a set genre and have tackled almost every single one? or video game OSTS? also need a further analysis on bands with weird names and/or indie i enjoyed ur indie rant very much
Me, an orchestra/instrumental fan who wasn't called out at: I was totally expecting something for that one. Like I used to get bullied in school for not listening to rap.
Me who listens to video game OSTs especially ones that are orchestral based: Finally, I'm at peace. I mean seriously, JRPGs kinda got me into classical. My geek card must be at least Gold, if not applying for Platinum.
I mostly listen to metal/western. But when i wanna listen to punk i usually listen to a punk rock band named The Jasons. It's a band from New Jersey based around Friday The 13th. They even call each other by which masks their movies are from, so the singer is Jason V while one of the guitarists is Jason 3D
Idk man. I’m a metalhead, and as long as no one tries to tell me that Taylor Swift is better than Metallica, I’m generally cool with other people’s music tastes. Hell, a lot of us like a ton of different genres (Garth brooks is awesome) with metal being at the center of it.
Nah, the gate keepers are just the loud minority. The majority of metalheads are chill and silent. It doesn't matter which sub genre you like best cause at the end of the day it's all just metal music, and we should all celebrate and accept the fact that we all have something in common with liking the broader definition of the genre as a whole rather than fight over our differences with sub genre
Punk fan here with a small correction. Punk has always been anti-establishment. Which establishments have just evolved over time. Originally, it was against the major musical establishment and focused a lot on just playing whatever because they wanted to. Eventually, this evolved to include being anti- various parts of government, including individual politicians, polotical parties, political topics, capitalism, and government itself

Also could talk about a subset of symphonic metal where they only do concept albums; you gotta listen to the whole album in order in order to really grasp the meaning an emotion of each song; randomly listening to a song from that album while on shuffle will not feel the same, usually the song doesn't really end, but slowly transitions into another one, but it's shuffle so you don't get closure (speaking from experience, i can be pedantic abt concept albums)
@@pinkdragon4830 otomy, Ayreon's Dream Sequencer/Universal Migrator, 011101010, The Human Equation, lots of his albums, just realizing they're all concept concept albums bc their stories all tie within a same universe, from the creation, before humans, human times, post humans and even a bit of rebirth
@@pinkdragon4830 Aryeon has an album called, "The Human Equation," and that was my first thought. Then I think "Meteora," by Linkin Park. I may have the wrong album there, tho.

6:12 Varg (the Burzum guy) is actually out of prison! And he went to prison for murdering a former band mate, not hate crimes. Although he DEFINITELY burned down a bunch of churches and even used a photo of one as an album cover, but there wasn't enough evidence to convict
and now he makes racist schizopost videos acting as silly as possible while describing why he hates certain races, gee what a guy. In all fairness though, out of context, the clips are hilarious atleast but I fear for the sanity of the people who had to sit through his ramblings to get them and make compilations
i want to clarify that not all metal fans are like that, most that ive seen and met are really chill and are just there for a good time. metalheads get their emotions out through metal and that's why they're so nice.
I've never listened to Mac Miller before, but I'm planning to dive into his stuff in the next week or two in preparation for Balloonerism because I'm tryna keep up with the tide of new music this year in a way I haven't previously. I've got his album Circles high on my list and I'll definitely listen to Faces as well. I'm a little worried for the album because posthumous releases don't have the best track record, but I've heard unusually positive buzz around this so I'm keeping my hopes up.
@@WallJumpGames ballonerism is from the same era as faces, it will be nothing like anything 2015 and after. I really recommend going back and listening to his early stuff and on Into faces. I hope you enjoy your first time listening to Mac! Most dope!
Being a metal head is one of the most frustrating experiences of my life. It’s genuinely filled with people complaining that normies suck and they all sound the same, but the second someone bring any ounce of pop or rap influence into their beloved subgenre, they get angry for changing their sound and call them sellouts. Always wanting metal to be popular but when a band gets mainstream success, usually the angry incel dudes get really angry and call it gay. Also the strange amount of infighting about what’s considered metal always bugged me. I’m a core kid. Metalcore and deathcore are my shit. Older metal heads say it isn’t metal but will continue to listen to every single Metallica song when Metallica hasn’t been good since the black album.
I love the duality of music because there are people like me who would die for go to a Fall Out Boy concert but also to go to a beetlejuce the musical show on Broadway
I really enjoy musicals, but I only enjoy them ON STAGE. Beetlejuice is one of, if not my favourite plays I've ever scene, but I would never listen to the music on it's own (anymore) because it's not designed for that context. I mean tbf a lot of musicals are kind of shit or corny, I'm not a musical hater but I do find it a bit annoying when people's taste in music boils down to musical songs because like, they should listen to the artists who feature on Warriors instead of Warriors. ALSO, I don't think Fall Out Boy and musicals are as far apart as you think, I can't put my finger on why but the overlap between those 2 is quite large in my experience.
I don’t comment on yt very often, Much less a coherent sentence. I have to say though “jam bands” are pretty rad. So many different types of music can fall under the category and you wouldn’t believe the crossover between artists (even other genres). It’s a really rewarding experience. I didn’t like them at first either, AT, ALL. and I understand hearing a familiar discography is v important. If you can get past that though… it’s actually endless (in a good way). There’s lots of types of fans too! Especially nowadays- lots of peeps young and old, smelly and clean, fried and grilled, high and sobes, cheese and a side of mayo if pos- ur the best thanks!
Tugg, I am so sorry to be one of those metal fans.. but limp bizkit is nu-metal😭🙏 Also, punk music was made due to political reasons and beliefs, and despite what's mainstream about the genre and community, it's still very much so heavily rooted in politics. There is still sadly a lot of nihilism and struggles within the communities ofc🥲 but overall, the main goal and reason of punk music and the punk way of thinking is still politics or heavily rooted in them. Mainly left politics as punk was created to rebell against oppression, bigotry, classicism, and other things. Despite how bad some of the pioneers of punk are ofc😭 and some of the fundamental cores about being punk is helping others, especially those in need as well, being an activist for the punk way of thinking and stuff as mentioned above, and respecting those around you. A really good movie I'd actually recommend watching is the original slc punk movie staring matthew lillard. It actually follows a similar mindset as to what you described. The goal of the movie, though, was to show how bad the nihilistic parts of the punk communities are and the tolls it can all take on a person. As well as a few other meanings like you don't have to dress up and party hard to be a punk, as being punk is a mindset and lifestyle. And the whole thing of "are you really a punk if you don't actually help and contribute to the main reason the punk subculture and stuff even exists?" And other stuff ofc. Really good movie, tbh. I really love it, personally. I do find it sad, however, as to what the punk community has really turned into and how bad the main view of punks is now again due to bad representation and ppl misunderstanding what a punk is. Or people calling themselves punk but not even following the core beliefs of what makes a punk a punk. Truly sucks tbh. But as long as you understand the core of what a punk is, it makes it a lot easier to understand punks as a whole as well and what defines an actual punk from the "posers" and just ppl using the image for the wrong reasons and stuff. No right winged person is a punk, for example, as it goes against every set of core beliefs and values the entire meaning of punk has. And yet you find many of those types of ppl calling themselves one which I blame on common misunderstanding and not enough educational knowledge on such a subculture. But that's just an example of what I mean ofc :> Oh! And btw while I'm talking on subcultures. Punk is not a subculture where ppl have to dress up to be a part of or not be a "poser"! Idk why some ppl think that. It's a music and political based subculture that's mainly rooted in the politics. Idk how what someone believes in translates into "Oh, but you don't look or dress punk though" THAT'S NOT WHAT IT'S ABOUT😭 But anyway, little music and subculture rant out of the way. Ty to anyone that took any time to actually read all this. I yap ik but I find these things interesting to talk about. And it's always important to share any knowledge you have whenever you have the chance and stuff ofc😌🙏
Also, besides that, bro, being a fan of such genres is a true testament of having to separate the art from the artist😭 most of my music taste is metal genres, punk genres, and so much rock genres. I basically grew up to be like dean winchester tbh if yk yk. But even in general music now it's hard to find any music artist that isn't completely shitty. I can only think of like 3 off the top of my head that have absolutely nothing bad or wrong regarding them and their careers and they aren't even full time musicians, they are actors that also make songs and sing😭🙏 love them though. Radio company, dick Jr and the volunteers, and Rob benedict are absolutely incredible fr. Absolute bbgs ngl, honestly. Edit: btw I mention artists in general, too, cause my main spotify playlist alone has over about 2200 or smth songs in it now so you can only imagine the amount of different artists and genres in there Also.. hot take, but country music really isn't that bad, but it HEAVILY depends on the song and artist. My gods, I go feral for dick Jr. and the volunteers, good time by alan jackson, dolly Parton, certain Luke bryan and brantley guilbert songs, certain big & rich songs, Toby Keith, and a few others. But a few actual just good country songs not by those artists in general are sleeping on the blacktop by colter wall, condemned by Zach bryan, life is a highway by rascal flatts, and the gambler by Kenny rogers. But there's also a version of Johnny Cash as well that's good too ofc cause it's Johnny Cash. Oh and don't even get me started on the cajun and creole country music out there. I go FERAL for the song callin baton rouge by Brooks jefferson tbh ngl
I am very disappointed with most rock music today, it has come to a point where I only listen to old stuff, and I mostly listen to punk type stuff, metal, and alternative. It seems to me like its all become so corporate and polished, I cannot find anything good that is not pop influenced or something, no disrespect to pop ofc. If you know any good bands please tell me.
@@TSSFall no cause fr! And it sucks sm. But I think that even for things like the pop genre (I miss 2000s and 2010s pop music too much tbh😔)

I’m a jazz fan and you are just too correct about us. Jazz started out as playing random shit that sounded good until people tried to write it down.
@@kingblanketfort in my opinion while you can write it down after jazz is aobut improvising

John Denver, Johnny cash, and all of them (I know Johnny Cash isn’t really folk but compared to nowadays he is to me)
Isn't country just American folk?
We're a "metal" band but genre is such a funny thing. Genre's are helpful descriptors but also sometimes limiting because people expect something out of it. If you are doom then the riffs better be fuzzy or slow. If you are thrash then it better be fast etc. That's why we just made our own genre up and called it "Groovy Sexy Viking Funk Amish Doom Rock" and just let our music do the talking. With a genre like that we can do our own thing.
amish???

Like there's no consistency in the CD shape for Kpop and like, HOW do you store them on like a regular CD rack?
Metalhead here, I'd like to take this chance to explain metal to people who may be interested or want to get into it,
In terms of genres and how to identify them you need to focus on the main sound, average heavy metal is very light and often has a huge focus in terms of rock so if you don't see any drastic changes within the music and it just sounds like harder rock it's most likely heavy metal, doom metal is very noticeable as it takes a focus onto being incredibly slow and atmospheric on a focus of sounding evil, thrash metal often has a focus on speed so if you listen to the music and it seems very fast and the singer is singing fast then it's most likely thrash, early death metal has huge inspirations to thrash but you can often tell it's death metal from it's punchier sound, when death metal had fully developed the best way to separate it from other metal genres is to focus on the tone and the singer cause often the singer in death metal will focus on making their voice sound low and there's often a lot more power chords from guitar and you can tell from how the guitar sounds that it focuses on punchyness in order to get that specific sound and the drums in death metal are often blast beats, grindcore is sort of a mix between metal and punkish and its often very fast but unlike thrash this genre has a lot more blast beats.
Tldr, however I also love metal so hell yeah dude
truly appreciate this metal deep dive
And if you want to listen to any of them, make it prog or djent because the good bands in those seas of slop are better than ALL of the other bands in the world (sidenote: he wasnt wrong because every time i think about how cool it would be if metal was normalized i imagine a world where all the metal bands sell out and i shudder. i want the people around me to like metal but i want it outside of the mainstream forever)
Haha literally doing exactly what he said a metal head would do, go on a dissertation about sub genres 😂.

The Metal Community imo is something to never touch online with a ten foot pole but I swear every metal head I’ve met irl is the most chill mf ever idk what happens for the online community to be the opposite.
Vocal minorities feel the need to be heard (or I guess seen) online more than irl. Goes for everything really
Metal heads are generally trying to fit a persona which is a lot easier online when they can’t actually see you and you have no real social consequences.

Pinkshift and folk punk mentioned :DD
As a fellow punk, I appreciate this comment and the way you elucidated punk. Quite accurate. Cheers! 🤘

As someone who loves country music among other genres, I think personally, PERSONALLY, that the best country was the 80s about earlier. My favorites are John Denver, Johnny Cash, and that era. Again this is my own personal opinion that country is better without electric guitars and all of the theatrics.
Same
I agree, he misrepresented the genre in the video
Yeah they’re pretty good.
More jazz fusion that jazz but point still stands
Thanks for those suggestions :) Modern Jazz discovery is really hard because of how the genre has basically died, but I like trying out modern stuff in the scene. You probably have already listened to him, but in my opinion the most exciting living jazz musician is Kamasi Washington, so if you haven't listened to his work I implore you to change that.
Jazzbois is solid
As an aspiring EDM producer and a huge EDM fan, I'm not offended at all by your calling us out for having so many subgenres, because that's what happens when you can just make up instruments on a computer. Dude whenever I get into a certain system I tend to just overdose on your videos. It's happened twice and I've just visited your channel to rewatch every single video and feel like a person again. Not in a depressed way, I just really like being a tugglet. It's so silly and it makes me happy thinking about how original and in my opinion amazing your content is.
I bet you eat ice cream with chopsticks

I can't tell if that's an insult or not but damn that's too accurate

Big tugg just wanted to say I’ve been a fan since the UA-cam shorts days and have had a blast seeing how you’ve become such a great success and my favorite creator. I now look forward to Saturday and your new vids. Cheers and happy new year.
PS: it all comes back to the soviets
That short history of punk was hilariously incorrect, but thats okay
4:43 I like metal and your right
So factual.
As a will wood fan, I am safe here
oh the dude that his biggest song was written when he was tripping balls in a casino, yeah love that guy

Holy shit a wild Will Wood fan. Hell yeah
I think saying 90s punk is a bunch of guys is doing a massive disservice to Bikini Kill and the Riot Grrrl movement lol. It goes unbelievably hard
WELCOME BACK MY BEAUTIFUL TUGGER
Also could talk about a subset of symphonic metal where they only do concept albums; you gotta listen to the whole album in order in order to really grasp the meaning an emotion of each song; randomly listening to a song from that album while on shuffle will not feel the same, usually the song doesn't really end, but slowly transitions into another one, but it's shuffle so you don't get closure (speaking from experience, i can be pedantic abt concept albums)
I'm guilty of making all of my music as concept albums. Lol. I don't even really mean to. #whoops
Pleeease give some examples
@@pinkdragon4830 otomy, Ayreon's Dream Sequencer/Universal Migrator, 011101010, The Human Equation, lots of his albums, just realizing they're all concept concept albums bc their stories all tie within a same universe, from the creation, before humans, human times, post humans and even a bit of rebirth
@@pinkdragon4830
Aryeon has an album called, "The Human Equation," and that was my first thought.
Then I think "Meteora," by Linkin Park. I may have the wrong album there, tho.
my definition of indie is british people who have instruments in a band
I don't really have a favorite one. I just find like five songs I like and listen to them on repeat like a maniac until I am so fed up with them that I never wanna hear them again, and the mere thought of hearing them on the radio makes my blood boil. Rinse and repeat this process 😂

As a music theory nerd, I approve of the various references to time signatures and modal music.
I swear to God tucker limp bizket isnt punk, ITS NU METAL. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT.
I KNOW RIGHT.
How tf do you confuse two completely different genres lmao. Love Tugg, but that's kinda insane to confuse 2 opposite end genres.
I’m just happy to have a megadeth reference in a tugg video
Can’t go wrong with a Megadeth reference.
"The sound of corduroy pants rubbing together" 😂😂😂
6:12 Varg (the Burzum guy) is actually out of prison! And he went to prison for murdering a former band mate, not hate crimes. Although he DEFINITELY burned down a bunch of churches and even used a photo of one as an album cover, but there wasn't enough evidence to convict
You're the only person besides myself that I've seen mention the fact that he's *been* out. Lol.
In 2014 he was also convicted of inciting racial hatred and sentenced to six months of probation. Such an asshole.
and now he makes racist schizopost videos acting as silly as possible while describing why he hates certain races, gee what a guy. In all fairness though, out of context, the clips are hilarious atleast but I fear for the sanity of the people who had to sit through his ramblings to get them and make compilations
Yea it's a weird fact to get wrong. I thought everyone knew the Varg story

11:00 I don’t think you can go wrong with Johnny Cash when it comes to country
I hate country, but I recognize a good artist when I see one. Much respect to him.
fucken hate county but Cash is such a great artist
i want to clarify that not all metal fans are like that, most that ive seen and met are really chill and are just there for a good time. metalheads get their emotions out through metal and that's why they're so nice.
You shouldn’t really expect this guy to know that, he seems like he would insult metalheads
Thank you for the Mac shout and not even feeling the need to explain it, because it doesn’t need an explanation ❤
came here to say this
I've never listened to Mac Miller before, but I'm planning to dive into his stuff in the next week or two in preparation for Balloonerism because I'm tryna keep up with the tide of new music this year in a way I haven't previously.
It’ll give you the best idea of where he was at at the time without the fluff of everything that happened when he was with Ariana. Ballonerism is the most experimental album of his for sure. I hope you enjoy your first time listening to Mac! Most dope!
4:14 MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES MENTIONED TUGG I LOVE YOU
Whole hearted agreement!
I push my fingers into my aaaaahhh
I think that Venn diagram is a circle. Theater kids have liked pop-punk/emo-pop (Panic/MCR) since time immemorial.
YT keeping this from me for five fucking minutes is a crime
5:25 yes thats true. No one hates metalheads more than metalheads
Swifties in the corner:
Tugg, I am so sorry to be one of those metal fans.. but limp bizkit is nu-metal😭🙏
Also, punk music was made due to political reasons and beliefs, and despite what's mainstream about the genre and community, it's still very much so heavily rooted in politics.
But that's just an example of what I mean ofc :>
Oh! And btw while I'm talking on subcultures. Punk is not a subculture where ppl have to dress up to be a part of or not be a "poser"! Idk why some ppl think that. It's a music and political based subculture that's mainly rooted in the politics. Idk how what someone believes in translates into "Oh, but you don't look or dress punk though" THAT'S NOT WHAT IT'S ABOUT😭
But anyway, little music and subculture rant out of the way.
Edit: btw I mention artists in general, too, cause my main spotify playlist alone has over about 2200 or smth songs in it now so you can only imagine the amount of different artists and genres in there
Also.. hot take, but country music really isn't that bad, but it HEAVILY depends on the song and artist.
But if you really want some punk music that isn't like that nowadays you should go to local shows and stuff for the most part if you have any punk communities and spaces in your area. Besides that, though, I personally just stick with the classics when it comes to punk, metal, and rock stuff, honestly. Newer stuff just isn't as good in my opinion. But I think that even for things like the pop genre (I miss 2000s and 2010s pop music too much tbh😔)
@fr tho and, thank you because I really wanted someone new, and yes I miss the early 2000s 2010s pop, its so nostalgic and mostly just reminds me a lot of my childhood.
@TSSFall literally! You get it😭🙏 not many I meet for some reason actually understand what I mean when I say the downfall of pop music. Man.. I miss my childhood and mainly cause of the music cause wth is this shit now. Rarely you'll find a good song, but now it's like a diamond in the rough fr🥲 even the artists that were actually kinda good back then are bad now for the most part. Rip Taylor swift (swifites pls don't dox me. I just really do not like her newer music. Take me back to her earlier stuff or even the country, and it's better than it is now. In my opinion, at least😭🥲🙏)
Great to hear. Can we get an update on the budget Tyers situation
as someone who loves tyler the creator if you don't like some unreleased song from 2008 called "i hate women" and instead like " i think" they will say your a poser some fans are like that 😭🙏
