I've had these experiences with two different men in recent years and probably tried to conceal my real feelings too as i wasn't sure how to read their mixed messages. Then when I tried to show interest, I didn't know how to read their reactions either. Both ended up dating and marrying women who are much more forward and straight up than me! I think two shy people doing this dance is very hard to make work! One of them still shows a lot of the signs you talk about around me (we have a lot of mutual friends) which I find sad, especially for his wife and it makes me think I probably dodged a bullet if he's still that conflicted about his true feelings!
