    FINALLY someone who explains with an example and concisely. Everywhere else it was left at just the equation, which never helps in my case. You have no idea how much you helped me out with this.

    Awesome video! Thank you! Now I finally understood stood how to use SOR. I also highly appreciate you saying the optimum value for w which is 1.1. Very helpful!

    Gauss-Seidel is not always better than Jacobi. There are examples when Gauss-Seidel doesn't even converge, and Jacobi does, and sometimes Jacobi converges faster than Gauss-Seidel. It depends on the spectral radius of the matrix in the iteration.

    thank you , i have a question: how to choose w?

    • @the-Math-guy
      @the-Math-guy  6 років тому +6

      Well that's a good question there is a practical answer which is you have to experiment and play with a few values till you get the best result. So that would work for assignments or projects. Exam wise only a very cruel professor would ask you to figure it out. I would give the value of w. Hope the answer helps.

    where is w/aii ? as the formula said that. but you just multiplied it by w? or is that acceptable?

    If w is not given how can we find w????

    • @akihitonarihisago4276
      @akihitonarihisago4276 2 роки тому +1

      w has to be decided by the user, depending on the system. It decides the rate of convergence.
