Emerald ash borers were all in my pine trees. I sprayed every tree with herbicide, like the USDA brochure said and it killed all my trees. What's the deal with that?

What herbicide was recommended? They haven't reached me yet but all of my trees are ash and I wanna get a head start before they do.
