      Hi there, this should answer your question: Littelfuse Arc Flash Relays utilize light sensors installed throughout the cabinets to detect an arc flash, which can easily be retrofit into most cabinets. Input from current sensors can also be added if desired to verify the presence of an arc, if there is concern of other light sources creating a false arc detection. The Arc Flash Relay can react to an arc extremely fast, providing a trip signal in under 1 ms, which is connected an existing circuit breaker within the equipment. The total clearing time will then be the 1 ms Arc Flash Relay reaction time plus the breaker operating time. For the majority of arc events, this is a significantly faster clearing time, and thus a lower incident energy level, than would normally be achieved using only standard current-based protection.
