Fast forward 30 years and he caught a kid putting graffiti on the side of his shop. Recognized the kids talent for lettering art and gave him a job. Honestly, this is really useful for other artists to know. If I'm ever doing a scene with graffiti, now I know how to properly structure it to make it look more natural.
It’s funny how the fundamentals of art transfer between mediums. I recently started painting miniatures, and my sister has been an artist using paint for several years. After painting minis for a few months I understand so much more about her art and this grafitti example as well. Highlights and shading are everything lol
I legit envy how steady a hand good artists have. I can barely get a straight line without a straight edge helping me out, and even then, I'll wibble away from the straight edge sometimes.
It's all practice. When starting out, I did a few techniques to help train your hand more, including filling pages with short and long lines and ovals/circles, aiming to finish at the same point you started. On top of that, there are times you need to keep it extra steady, especially on paper, in which case for things like straight lines, lock your wrist and do it with your whole arm to your elbow.
It helps that you can make broad strokes with your whole arm if you get the momentum right. The faster you go the less you have to worry about hand stability (still gotta practice tho)
I’m an traditional artist and I have bad natural shake! It’s not impossible! Just takes time to find your style and adapt to the shake!
