একবিংশ শতকে এসেও ৩০০০ বছর পুরনো এক নৌকা এখনো জলপথে চলছে, এমনটা বিশ্বাস করতে আপনার একটু কষ্টই হবে বৈকি! আর সেটা যদি হয় নিজ দেশ বাংলাদেশেই, তাহলে কৌতূহল আরও বেড়ে যায়। কিন্তু সত্যিকার অর্থেই দেশে চলছে তেমনই এক নৌকা, যার নাম 'মালার'। এ কাজটি করেছে বেসরকারি উন্নয়ন সংস্থা ফ্রেন্ডশিপ। পুরনো কাঠের শিল্পকে চোখের সামনে হারিয়ে যেতে দেখে ২০০২ সালে দেশের কাঠের নৌকা শিল্প পুরোপুরি হারিয়ে যাওয়ার আগে তারা এ কাজ শুরু করেন। এছাড়াও, এই উদ্যোগের মাধ্যমে নৌকা নির্মাণ শ্রমিকদের টেকসই জীবনমান উন্নয়নেও সাহায্য করে সংস্থাটি।
