Winter chill out is actually a great event. Been going every year for some time now. You can talk to the mechanics, the welders, the sign shop, the wardrobe people, etc. Unfortunately this year they had some stupid "random draw" for tickets, and i was not chosen. They really need to go back to first come first serve. This is going to be the first chill out we miss in quite some time.
Have you seen what Busch Gardens Tampa offers with their Rollercoaster Insider Tour? Got to do that this last December and got to chat with one of the mechanics in the maintenance barn for Cheetah Hunt for a while and nerd out with a group of nerds like me. They take you behind the scenes of Cheetah Hunt, Cobra's Curse, and Montu. Go in all the maintenance barns, see the control room, and even go up the stairs of Montu's midcourse brakes. It was a really cool experience definitely recommend everyone checks it out!!
Hey Ryan, I've been to Chill Out and you actually do get chances to talk with the mechanics! It's the highlight of the event for me. I was there in 2020 and they told us about having to add plates to Steel Vengeance because the new forces were actually ripping bolts out and separating the wood supports. They were also able to give some information on TTD being stalled on the top hat, the SV opening day bump, and anything else that was asked. I wish more parks had events like it, but your videos definitely fill the gap that the parks are unwilling to fill.
That’s great. People would ask me some questions on an occasional tour and I would have to defer because I knew the park already told me not to use certain information. I’ve already said it all on this channel hahaha!! But I’m more general so it makes it ok 😁
I agree. Although the GP is pressuring for more info regarding TT2, I doubt they really want to know what is going on at Zamperla to try to make the thing work. The only thing I criticize Cedar Point about is waiting until the last minute to announce no chance of it reopening this year.
@@ClebyHerristhe crack was visible in a photo taken from the parking lot a week prior. I guarantee that crack was recorded long before we saw it, they just kicked the can a little too far down the road that time.
I think it would be cool if you made a video talking about ride effects, if you're familiar with them. So many parks that have rides with effects seem to have issues getting them to work, and I think it would be cool to see it covered and what makes it hard for parks to get them to work. (ex: Verbolten's lights @ BGW, Volcano's fire effect @ Kings Dominion, X2 fire & on-ride audio @ SF Magic Mountain, Backlot stunt coasters effects @ Kings Dominion & Kings Island, Pompeii @ BGW, etc)
"we clean the rides every day" certainly. Don't worry. Ops cleans the rides every day. Every week, at least right? Uh, once a month? Well, at least whenever someone vomits on one, which for some rides is daily!
Ha! I can’t speak for all parks but our ops cleaned the ride every day. And weekly did a super deep clean at night. Unfortunately most of the cleaning was wiping off our dirty hand prints from all over everywhere.

I found your channel before you released the video on the crack, and when I subscribed, you had about 160 subs. 😅 It's nice to see the number grow, as you really deserve it. I don't know if this is more of an American thing to think people can't handle the information. Years ago, there was a TV documentary from a park in Germany, may have been Phantasialand, don't count me on that, where they followed a team of mechanics. One event was that one of their coasters wouldn't dispatch. From there they narrowed it down to a failed proximity switch somewhere. After replacing it, the coaster was operating again. Maybe it was their approach of first showing that it simply refuses to work (which is of course the safe state) and then fixing it, but there was no outcry here at all. And talking about parts that are worn, like the brake brass - everybody should know that some components, especially brakes, do wear. After all, unless you're the kind of person to buy a new car every year, you will have had to replace the brake pads and/or rotors on your car at some point. Why? Because they were worn down. As long as replacing the worn part happens on time, there is nothing wrong with it.
So I believe there 2 things going on. The park doesn’t want people to know what’s happening with their maintenance because people can trend the data and start messing with the parks business. 2- to your above comments about the U.S. and building off #1. In a country ruled by lawyers, you don’t was to give other lawyers a record of any publicized records. If a court need maintenance records they will takes them from the park under court order. European countries are much more open because I don’t think they let lawyers rule everything. My opinion of course.
I used to talk with manufacturers in Germany Austria, and they just did things different. And I asked why we (here in the us) are so crazy, their response was you couldn’t easily sue someone in other countries. So that’s what I base my comments off of. Also back to the future 2 hahah “Justice moves swiftly now that they have abolished all lawyers!”
You mentioned Fury 325 in this video. The report into the 2 fractured supports was released 3 weeks ago. I think i read that there is nothing in there about the ground sinking down and that the reason for the fracture might have been bad maths used calculating loads.
In the 90's one of the parks over here had a great series on tv, even showing issues with the rides (Polderpret in Dutch). The fanbase is always hoping that something like it will be made again, but knowing the professional side of it I don't see it happening again. I would like to see more content explaining the technical side of a themepark, can create awareness for the troubles maintenance has to go to as well.
Food is very much like this. As an example, the FDA allows 30 (or so) insect fragments for every 100 grams of peanut butter. When people not in food industry hear that, a huge percentage say “WHAT?!?!?! WGY ISN’T IT ZERO?!?!?!” It’s not zero because it would be an impossible standard, but people still don’t want to hear that.
I yea I bet! So common. Like bits of metal and plastics are in almost everything. That’s how it’s made! People say not my home made stuff. Oh, homemade stuff is the worst. I cook all the meals. I wonder how much Teflon coating I’ve eaten over my life. Metal from spatulas. Plastic melted off of spoons ect.
the tickets for Winter Chill Out sell out within seconds. very tough to get that ticket. Cedar Point is going to have an eclipse event this year in April , I'm sure that will sell out really fast as well
Marketing should involve pass holders for their social media content. Us pass holders know a lot about what will get the general public pumped up. Example, pass holder testimonials 😀
You can explain the term “fail safe” and “fail dangerous” when this wheel explodes it explodes in the carriage and has another wheel holding it up. This is “fail safe” for example. I’m not a mechanic Has a wheel ever just exploded?
Wheels don’t really fly apart like that. If they somehow impact something they can crack and deform. But that’s about it. Fail safe is generally used when something can fail because there is another to prevent a dangerous situation. If you look at a hitch coupling, the coupling could fail and that would be catastrophic. But the failsafe is two separate cables to keep the trains linked together with minimal damage if that were to occur. The term fail safe, secondary, and safety are pretty much interchangeable. Although I’m not an engineer, I believe the exact verbiage depends on the location and the mode of implementation into the assembly.

Question: Parks that run year round ops like Disney, Universal, etc, how and when do they do maintenance/inspections on their rides. Like it many rides at these parks never seem to close even for annual maintenance. They are up 365 days a year. How can parks with 365 day ops have 3+ trains going at all time? Do they have many spare trains, do they have a lot of spare parts on hand to handle major breakdowns so rides are up daily and all day long? Its so impressive to see that type of reliability of coasters.
Also are rides/rollercoasters more reliable when run every single day all day then when they are seasonal? Does their life span get reduced because of test round ops compared to seasonal?
@@bobbywaszak4102 big parks like that have 2-3 extra trains they cycle through until the fleet is done. Generally the ride has a couple of weeks of down time once a year that the refurbishment is scheduled for. So the ride experiences little to no downtime. I do find running rides daily they are much more reliable. But they do wear down faster.
Yep , while i haven't worked at a theme park, I have worked with the public for nearly 30 years now.... and seems like you pretty well have them nailed.. especially when someone tells me all parts for all automobiles should be the same regardless of age, make, size etc.... and are dead serious 😐

Yep like Carowinds inspecting their coasters each day and yet they miss a giant crack that shows up on social media 😂

The report cited twisting as the cause of failure. Investing. Should be neat to see what they do to prevent the twisting in the future.
