Their whole band idea is "vampiric werewolves going on crusades in the name of the church", so organs, religious themes, hallelujah/amen and wolves are pretty much in every song. But because they are "cursed" werewolves everything gets a darker twist or is just a caricature of the real teachings. They even start every concert with a song that's just the Ave Mary and end it with the Pater Noster. They don't take themselves too seriously and just have fun, which I really like. The band members are also really nice and sympathetic people. And yes, in concerts he rolls the R even harder and longer because it became such a loved joke :D Some of my favorite songs are "Beast of Gevaudan", "Sanctified with Dynamite" and "Christ and Combat" (but I think the last one doesn't have a video). Anyways, great reaction, I'm glad you had fun with it! Greetings from Germany
Powerwolf: the band that combines Werewolves, Vampires, and Catholicism. Sabaton does history, powerwolf does what I've mentioned above. They also have a few songs on some myths.
This was one of the first Powerwolf songs I ever heard. And I have been in love with Powerwolf ever since. Their new album, Call of the Wild is absolutely amazing
Yes, all the "organs" in a good Powerwolf-Song. The character of the Organist "Falk Maria Schlegel" is some kind of fan favorite. He's not only the organist but also organizes evertything around their tours. What a talent. The "R"-thing is based on the Frontman's stage persona. He "plays" the Character Atilla Dorn and he's supposed to be rumanian, so he has this hilarious fake accent to sound somewhat like Dracula. I have seen Powerwolf in Cologne, Germany right before the start of this whole pandemic and it was the best concert I've ever seen. If it would've been the last, I'm totally fine with it. :D
One of the best things about Powerwolf is that their entire band is satirical, but they play with like they *really* mean it-like there are Catholic Church werewolves roaming around. One of my favourite bands because I’ve never seen a band do this before (and do it well, too).
Attila Dorn (stage name) has classical opera training from the Music Academy of Bucharest. Hence the vibrato and powerful notes. A vocalist that is definitely underrated! I suggest “Sanctified from Dynamite 2020 live” to hear his powerful voice. But “Let There Be Night” to hear his opera talents. Sorry for long comment, I love this band.
Hey Dave, awesome vid (as usual). Erection derives from the latin Erectus which means "standing". So resurrection means to "stand again", which is quite logical actually.
The first time I heard this song was on Pandora at work. Just half listening then I finally caught on to what they were saying and I’m like ‘wait, what?’ Another power metal group I like, who know they’re ridiculous but that’s part of the charm, is Brothers of Metal. They’re Viking themed, but stick pretty close to the mythos. Njord, Powersnake, Hel, and Chain Breaker are good ones to start with.
This song is such a banger when you DON'T speak English. Knowing lyrics both kinda ruins epic side of it and make this song even better at the same time. English is my second language, so I had a chance to experience it both ways xD
I wasn’t fluent at the time i heard it first but enough to understand « Resurection by Erection » 😂 also that erection means the same and is the same in my mother tongue
Да чувак! Когда я услышал ее впервые и не щнал текста все что меня смутило это название, но я подумал что что-то не так понял. Впрочем это песня великолепна с любой стороны
One way or another his wife's finding out about this... Either he drops it on her without context to see her reaction or... Well... The next time Dave's gonna have good times with the wife, those lyrics are going to crash into his train of thought and derail it lol.
Powerwolf! Love this band, and your reactions! If you wanna do more of them, I’d recommend ‘Murder at Midnight’, for a darker and more story-driven song. Love the video!
I always love to see reactions to this song,it was the first Powerwolf song i ever heard and I literally stopped at work like WTF, did he say...yeup lol...there is also a song they do about holy balls as well you should check out
God, that Metalocalypse comparison is so spot on and I am mad I never put that together for myself before this. Also, if you ever get the chance to look it up, Battle Beast did an absolutely AMAZING cover of this one that turns it into a faster, more over-the-top anthem instead of… whatever the original qualifies as.
This man is begging to have the couch as his permanent sleeping spot lol. This was just all around fun to watch between the good music and just laughing at the song in general.
I HIGHLY recommend listening to one of their ballads like Alive or Undead from their latest album or Where the Wild Wolves Have Gone to hear a bit more of their sound. Both very great songs!
5:45 So, "resurrection" comes from Latin. "re" is "back/again" and "surrection" comes from "surrexi," the perfect of "surgo," which means "to rise, get up" So it literally just means "rise up again/rise back up."
It is still insane to me that this song has lyrics that sound like they're from a parody band, but the actual musical nature of the song is insanely good.
You might like gloryhammer if you enjoy silly metal. They're a band that does science fantasy themed metal, and space 1992, rise of the chaos wizards is a very fun album.
My favorites by Powerwolf that I recommend is Sanctus Dominus, Incense and Iron, Army of the Night, and Fire and Forgive. Hope you enjoy the trip down Powerwolf.
Yeah, the seriousnes of this song is a hilarious a-bomb. :D I just love Powerwolf (song Stossgebet, if you know some german friend who translate it for you, is hilarious too).
Sanctified with Dynamite or Beast of Gevaudan. I really enjoy these, always fun to see someone experience theae for the first time. Even better if you sing a long in the car with the window down 👍
Awesome Video! Love your reactions, Dave. Please do more Powerwolf they are such an amazing band and I really recommend you listen to more of their songs. My recommendations would be Blessed and Possessed, Higher than Heaven and my personal favourite Armata Strigoi
They have a similar song name Coleus Sanctus, which translated from the Latin means “Holy Balls” or “Holy Scrotum”. It’s another great song by Powerwolf. Their very frank with their lyrics and cover a wide subject matter and a lot of Catholic satire.
yes the Organ is also a main theme because the regular keyboarder in bands is here a professional Organist. Stossgebet is basicly this song but in german. oh an Powerwolf are a German band thats why the Rolling R apears once in a while. if you want more of these Songs that ruin your sides: Grailknightz Pumping Iron Power feat Joachim from Sabaton followed by Gloryhammer - Gloryhammer Nanowar - Der Fluch des Kapitän Iglo's a german Song by Italian Folkmetalband about Fishsticks also comes with English Subs. all delivered by yours Truly: Napalm Records.
Omg I forgot about Alestorm!!! My friend introduced me to them through their song "F***ed with an Anchor". I never laughed and jammed so hard at the same time. I'd love to see a reaction from him on that one especially!
This is one of those "we're getting paid either way" songs. and I love it anyway, love seeing people just laugh at this frankly silly song. I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds it funny and ridiculous.
And if you don't think it can be more blatantly crude, there is also Coleus Sanctus. Which roughly translated is "Holy Sack" and is exactly about what you think it's about
Yeah Dave i absolutely recommend more of their songs, most of their albums are just banger after banger. Who doesnt love european folk legends in power metal form. Personal favourite would still have to be Army of the night, but i could not give you a further list of recommendations as i would just end up listing 98% of their discography due to not being able to narrow it down
@@whatitdodave So sad! I am also dealing with something similar...trying to get my mom, the wicked on of my parents...to watch this one.
