I think, aside from something like Wish which can instantly win the campaign, the spells are pretty well built to be balanced in Rules as Written. If your players are minmaxing or otherwise abusing the spell system, you should have a talk about changing how you play: it's a lot better if you just try to make the story interesting, rather than rushing to win.

I think your list looks mostly good, though some spells I would definitely stick to limiting instead of removing. Remove Curse and Speak with Dead are all examples of spells that feel great to get a good use out of and I think benefit the game overall, but I do agree that having renewable, easy access to them can be unbalanced. What a DM friend of mine has done in the past, with a good amount of success, is make spells like those available only as magical items like scrolls. Not only does it limit access to the spells, but the DM can create extra challenges or goals for the players if they are in need of a certain spell that might be only available at a specific location, or just really expensive.

I agree with that approach, giving the ability but through magic items. I have heard with the Monday video from D&D on spells that some of these are getting adjusted which I'm looking forward to. If I had to pick one to just remove from the game in my list it would be Wish, it's a way better magic item.

I havent run enough games to ban spells. I dont run serious games, so most spells are open season.

Not really one for super serious games myself either but saw these as obstacles to vibes. For instance it's hard to make a curse fun and esoteric for players if they can just level up and remove it.

My group can't use more than 2 summons without a severe percent based health reduction to the entire party. Why? Warding glyphs and summoning spells, white dye and a full body robe with dozens of loose patches sewn to the inside. This guy goes up to the bbeg, throws open his robe (the onlything his character is wearing atm), and shouts the warding glyph's activation phrase, "flash mob"

That's a really dumb reason for a rule against summons. The glyphs disarm and vanish when moved

I never really ban anything, my friends have however banned me from playing Rogue because one time I three shot the bbeg
