I've researched for the perfect sized mattress to replace the foam in my iKamper BDV solo, and I think this is the one. Thanks for the review!

All this talk of a 3 year tent life and the headache of not being able to fit a proper mattress really helps assure me I made the right choice with my $3000 4x4 suburban. I sleep inside, so no climbing ladders. The vehicle is 22 years old so 3 years is clearly nothing in comparison. I have an 11" thick Brooklyn Bedding hybrid residential mattress inside that stays made and ready with bamboo bedding, a down comforter, and quality pillows. It has plenty of room inside for the custom cabinetry, 5KWH server rack battery, fridge/freezer, microwave, as well as seating for 2 adults and room for all the necessary equipment and supplies to stay gone a month before restocking. The battery charges from the 500W solar mounted to the vehicle and the alternator, and I even have a stove/oven, water heater, presurized water storage tank, roof storage, starlink, hitch cargo basket, 4000W generator, 8x10ft awning, chainsaw, extra fuel, tools, and potable water too. It's no wrangler offroad, but it beats a RAV4 and has more space than a 4Runner too. While I understand everyone has different needs I just cant wrap my head around these rooftop tents. They're heavier, bulkier, and more expensive than ground tents (or in many cases more than my vehicle which has great interior space and ventilation thanks to the Maxxair fan) while often having less space, less visibility, worse ventilation, and they require you to climb up/down a ladder. I understand that not all ground is perfectly flat and level, but the vehicle only takes care of flat and it seems like the wind would shake the RTT a lot more than a ground tent given that you're higher up and on a suspension system. If nothing else the rigid walls are enough of a selling point for me to prefer my SUV over the pricey tents that are so popular

I love my RTT but there is def something to be said about being able to sleep in the vehicle too. My friend did that with his Rover and he didn't need to do any setup at all. I always say do what makes sense for you!

Look into James Baroud. Some of the best tents out there. I got a tempurpedic queen sized mattress topper and it fits great. Original mattress, plus topper, plus bedding and pillows and it still closes.

Oh I know all about it. But they're also one of the priciest tents as well. They also don't have rails along the edges that I need

Your videos are 👌. Look into ikampers foam/air mats. They have a bunch of different sizes that may fit your RTT. You could also get one of their RTTs which i personally think are awesome and then you’d be set with their mats, bedding, etc.
BTW, I have 2 of of the deepsleep for Jeep solo foam mats you reviewed here. They are excellent. We use one for my son’s bunk when we take our patriot x3 trailer. He says it’s so comfortable. If the weather is going to be crazy or I’m only taking the jeep, we use two of them in the rear of the jeep. I always use the pumps, especially to deflate and get them thin- the pump makes it so easy.

Ikamper is great but honestly my idea for next vehicle will be a pickup with camper and built in RTT

As always, enjoyed the video. As a former hiker (life got in the way) I used several products by thermal/thermo rest that were great. On I side note, I just ordered a Devos Light Ranger. Thanks for the recommendation!!

The mattress that comes with the Odyssey has 2 layers. One high density foam layer and a softer top layer. To get their Air Core 3” mattress (fully deflated) to fit inside the closed shell, I had to 1) unzip the factory mattress cover and 2) remove the top foam layer.
This leaves a high density foam layer for solid foundation on their slat construction. Then the Air Core mattress provides the comfort. Only takes a few mins to deflate fully in order to close the shell. 👍🏾

Nice! I have their OG odyssey. I'm talking to them now about upgraded versions of things.
I was already happy with the way it was prior. I've slept on it for years. It was that dent that started making it uncomfortable

I’ve been looking at a deepsleep for my new subie, so the timing of this video is extremely convenient… or scary sus. 😂
I had the air mattress version on my JL and loved that setup before I went with a rooftop tent. Good info as usual! I hope the tent can be repaired through warranty or replacement parts.

Sorry it didn't work in your RTT.
I bought one designed for my Jeep and used it for my 5-week camping trip. It was so comfortable. And I was able to use the other side for storage.
The only downside was deflating it at the end (I had it inflated for the entire trip and I just put some lighter stuff on top of it while traveling which I just moved out of the way at night). Deflating was virtually impossible without the pump. But the Deepsleep will always be part of my overlanding kit. Unless I get an RTT :)

Ok so it wasn't just me! Deflation was tough which is why I don't want to deal with it every morning

cool video. When laid out flat and deflated, how thick is it?

    • @BaptismOverland
      @BaptismOverland  2 місяці тому +1

Less than an inch. I would say maybe .75 to an inch depending how much air you get out of it

Yea that’s how we are building out our Gladiator. Camper shell with a RTT or the complete integrated RTT. We want to buy a small pull behind camper, the off road ones, for longer adventures as a base camp.

Can’t the company simply make multiple width sleeping pads like Exped. That’s what I use and they make multiple widths, lengths and thicknesses.

Would be great. They specialized in pre fitted ones for vehicles. Maybe they'll make diff widths for tents too at some point

I tried this brand and their QC is really an issue. And if you really want your mattress last long, do not but an air-inflating mattress. Buy memory foams.
