    What a great video! Love the history of his Dad, the soap, and the tool!

    The J-3 has a heritage that extends back to 1937. Not to forget the several "Tens of Thousands" of pilots that got their initial "Primary" flight training in "Cubs" both before and during WW2 !
    Today, we think of her as just a Fun flyer. But she began as a real work horse 🐎 of Aviation!

      Very true. 😎 this particular J3 has around 1200 total time and was previously owned by just two owners.
      The second owner purchased it in January 1947 and owned it for 70+ years

    The first time I saw one of these tools used I was amazed. Makes Bungee installations so easy. Thanks for capturing the process.

    Slick tool for Cubs. I had an experimental that used similar sized bungees. There was no way I could install them on the aircraft, so I used comparable longer smaller diameter bungees. They worked well without the danger/difficulty. Excellent video.

      That’s great to hear! I do have a decent about of J3 content. I’ll keep uploading more how to videos (for reference) on these old Piper aircraft for sure, including the PA-16 & engines.

    Looks like fun. Never done one of the old rag wings. My pacer project was advertised with new ones already in place. But I have done a few Comanches. Lots of special tools... none of them worked too good up in the wing as I recall.

      Nice. I’m not sure how old my are on the PA22, I’ll need to dig into the logs. I’m thinking with the new gear conversion I’ll change them.

    Damn, you learn something new everyday. Thanks for the video. Luckily our bungees/landing gear were completely rebuilt 2018; how long do you figure you can get out of them?

      I believe these were 20 yrs + old. However, the last couple years I’ve noticed the right wing a bit lower. This is sign of a week bungee. I’ll show some before and after photos at some point. The right wing was a good 4 inches lower.

    Cover your bungees in talc powder it helps em slip off easier

    Nice video bro. But from the factory they had 2 1/8th leather bumpers inside. One on each end. Not sure why someone had rubber ones. They want last as long as real leather bumpers.

      I just heard on another thread this morning of someone using a thick leather. I didn’t realize from the factory it was used. Thanks! I’ll remember this.

    IF it is true that the Date of Manufacture is color coded on each bungee, what is the Key to the code? Thanks!

    • @Blaircraft.Engines
      @Blaircraft.Engines 3 роки тому

      I actually wasn’t aware of the date with color coding. I can confirm we put a different color on, which were decades newer! I wish I had the answer for you!

    Good video but next time do not add the music.

  • @ronnwalker3743

    Why do video creators feel they need to put background music in these videos? And not only that, background music that sucks? It really detracts from the subject.

    • @Blaircraft.Engines
      @Blaircraft.Engines 4 місяці тому

      My grandpa told me once along the lines of this... People don't all like the same thing, that's why they make red cars and blue cars. Most people like to have some music, others can turn it down if they choose. I guess I thought the background music was acceptable at the time! lol
