This e-bike is impractical, unruly and totally lovable

  • I often rant about the impracticality of most bikes I see on the streets these days, with their sensitive gearing and overloaded tech. But sometimes, I come across a bike that is unique, beautiful and cool enough to overcome my ranting tendencies.
Here's an example. The Greaser: a beast of an e-bike built in the style of a 1950's cafe racer motorcycle that makes no sense on a lot of levels. It's big, heavy, unruly and completely fun to ride.
The bike is built by Michael Blast: www.michaelblast.com.au/colle...
It was loaned to me by Calgary online retailer Toys 4 Boys: t4bmotorsports.com

It’s actually an early 1900’s board track style bike, nothing to do with the 50’s.

What a cool modern take on a board track racer of the early 1900s.
I think your up right riding stance may have been where you got it all wrong.
It wasn't built to be comfortable.
Perhaps a run on a vintage velodrome is in order.
Once you weight the front end it should handle much better.
That battery has cut outs for your knees to grip the faux tank.
1950s motorcycle lol no it looks like something strait out of 1913 !!.
I'm not knocking your journalist integrity.
No I'm just old enough to know what it truly emulates...

I have bought the 500 watt taken it up a mountain dirt road to the peak, gone camping with a bike trailor and camping gear. with saddle bags its great its definitly the bike of practicality. this thing is wonderful to commute with aswell. Ive used in in invermere all summer after using a shorter bike frame for the last 3 years with 1500 watt engine. I might swap engine systems and see how it goes, the 500 watt has taken me up to 45kph with a distance of 57km Ive taken it down logging roads taken it to the beach. took it and my synthesizers and drum machines to an electronic music festival i played at and hauled the gear back when i was done. its awesome. If i put the 1500 watt motor on it it will have a top speed of 80 kph the range will be less but honestly ill just buy a second battery. i love this bike its worth every penny. If i want to pedal ill use my road bike or my mountain bike. On a high note ive taken this thing down some long steep highway hills and it was cruising at 87kph without any issue of the breaks or bike stability at higher speeds . i reccomend it if you want to modify it to make a high powered e bike. the frame is stellar. great geometry about as long as a motorbike

Clearly you are not talking about the same bike cuz there is no way in hell you were doing 45 kph under the power of a 500 watt motor unless you were coasting down hill...nor did you get that kind of range..i have had one of these for a yr and except for looking fantastic they are complete garbage.

Very cool bike. It has a very classic, German army look. 1930's early 1940's. Many Wehrmacht soldiers rode bikes like this. The Germans do the best bikes.

It is a totally awesome looking bike for sure, but my gripe, and only speaking of looks or esthetics here....I wish the fenders followed and hugged the outside of the tires better. They seem to be at a slightly different diameter than the tires are, and that to me is a bit of a let down and distracting.

If you squint, you would think this is a board track racer from the 20's. It's very close in style to the very first of motorcycle invention yet they give it a 50's inspired name. Very stupid even disrespectful.im not even a history or motorcycle enthusiast.

The bike is pretty cool. For me it missed the mark on the battery size and engine size, frames alright bikes a little on the heavy side . I personally would design it a bit different. Great stock frame, steering and wheels. I would probably sell the rear hub and battery system and upgrade. You might lose a bit selling the original system. And someone out there would like that battery and hub or rear tire system for what ever you can get for it. Might cost you a little extra to upgrade battery and rear wheel. It a cruiser so really its about riding in electric and getting home by pedaling if you have too much fun riding around.

T4B is obviously paying you since there is no way in hell that your review is unbiassed. I own one of these and have for a yr ......the only way i would own one of these again is if i got ahold of one for free......i have had 3 warranty issues with mine. I had to deal directly with the manufacturer since T4B doesn't return phone calls or emails. Breaks went within a month. So i had to upgrade them. Also it showed up with a broken battery mount. So the manufacturer sent me another and this time they included the little straps for around the battery. If they had some sort of quality control dept that would not have happened. The third issue was water getting in the charging port and shorting out the port cable. If they would have put a 50 cent rubber cover on the charging port this would not have happened.....so they sent me out a new port....I now notice my range is down by more then %25 indicating a battery issue but they will not replace it. During this last issue. I had to send the serial number of my bike to the manufacturer and i found out my bike was made in 2018 yet i bought it in feb 2020......so given the broken battery mount its looking like T4B sent me a used bike instead of the brand new one i paid for........In short i would not buy so much as a remote controlled car from T4B. So far its been my experience that they are totally incompetent. its such a shame since this is such a beautiful bike., even though it is grossly underpowered.
