    This is what ham radio is all about. I constantly hear people asking what works for different antennas. How about experimenting and learn if it does from your own experience? For me that is where most of the fun comes in. Great video.

    I like the modest style of Peter, he obviously puts in a plug for his outlet but not in an in your face or hard sell kind of way.

    Even with 48 years of radio experience there is always something to learn. What a fascinating video thank you Peter. 73

    I really enjoyed this video. I'm new to ham radio myself, so soaking up a lot of information.

    A handy and interesting trick for the odd occasion. I think you've pegged it there, Peter!

    Good mix of sales patter and tuning tips Peter, many thanks! Still trying to get my head around antennas so I found this pretty useful. Love my IC-705 too, great radio!

    Question:
    I have a Kenwood 590, 100W output.
    I'm considering purchasing a 1,000W linear amplifier.
    Are there any recommendations?
    My Kenwood 590 has a built in antenna tuner.
    Do I still need a separate antenna tuner to work with a 1,000W amp?

      1KW is a lot of power. Make sure the antenna, cable and connectors are robust and in good order. 73 Peter

    By the way. Have used that antenna with 50w Mobile. For quite a few years

    This was unbelievably interesting. Got me thinking when using a 40m HF mobile antenna when using a magmount on top of your car. Would be educational if you could produce a video to see if you could reduce your swr using these methods?

    I've just recently started studying for my my license in Sweden, and I really like the contrast you bring to the mostly US youtubers.
    About, this video: Wouldn't a water tap or central heating element (Not sure if that's what you call them. Perhaps radiator?) provide a good ground?

    • @watersstanton
      @watersstanton  2 роки тому

      Generally those systems will provide an RF ground.

    Very good and informative video, thank you very much. It would be interesting, how it would work out if you pulled out a half wavelength of that steel tape measure and set the magnetic mount right into the middle of it. Two quarter wavelength radials. Could work...

      This type is great for temporary ht to local repeater use. But the coax eats 3db on uhf at least. Or half your output power. Its a convenience antenna. Works great for a vacation with a rental and ht. It SHOULD handle 50 watts on Vhf (aka 2 meters). But once again, loss is high with rg-174. If you're looking for more permanent use, find a 2" nmo mag mount with rg58/u or rg58/au and put a 18-19" dual band antenna with a coil in the middle. That would be slightly more expensive, but longer lasting. And better performing.

    Those antennas are ok for local ht to repeaters. Great for rental car on vacation. Thats it. Rg-174 sucks ass on uhf. I guarantee its not well shielded coax either. That coax easily eats 3db of your signal BOTH WAYS . TX & RX. Also, the whip is nice and flexible, but your signal is going to go everywhere else but where you want it to at over 60mph or 100kph.

    The problem whit a such small magnet is it doesnt couples to the car rooth enough, yeas it will work, and it will work better if you leave as much as possible of the coax on the carrooth it will work better. And yeas it will work better then a rubber duck inside the car.

    • @watersstanton
      @watersstanton  4 роки тому

      Peter, there is enough capacity. A direct earth connection made no difference. 73 Peter.

      @@watersstanton i realy dissagre :)
      Booth from what i been reading and I have used one of those. Now i use a permanent installed antenna on the car, thicker material but aprox the same leangth, and since i used both the 30 minutes to work every day, i realy must say it is a big diffrense.
      I must say thou, the antenna in the video do work :)

    Hi very good
    But let’s take it a further
    How about useing it for the top of hf
    Useing a miracle whip ducker.
    With the antenna. Will give you 20m upto 10 m.
    A tin can. Cut and flattened out and cut. A 3x4 inch peace. And bent into L shape. So. 3 inch. Bend. 1 inch. You can solder. Or. Drill bolts. Crimps ground plane wires
    Open window. And trap 1 inch pease in bottom of window frame by simply closeing window to trap it into position.
    Can drop some wire out window
