65/66 and 68/69 I was in Vietnam and I was one of the lucky ones I came home that is what I thought ( Brothers know what I am talking about ) A few years back I lost wife she was my rock she would know when I would go to dark place , I would be sitting on edge of bed sweating she would whisper ( you are home now ) Now I am listening to these songs I thank of her the great life I had with her ( my sweet heart I love you I know I will see again)
Lost the love of my life after thirty nine years and one month of marriage. Feel you. It's been three years and I miss her bad! Maybe they are comparing notes on us!!
My Father too served in the Viet Nam , Korean War, & WW2 & was very patient person. The thing my Dad would say is so many people didn't make it on the Beach their 2st day for not realizing where they were at.
Well I'm just a few and I feel like I'm serving with you right now in this hell hole so there you go for your service I have every single second and oh boy what a lesson! Outstanding work gentleman and ladies. I don't need to be ahead of the curve because I laid the pavement before you got here hahaha
78yo Navy vet (65-69) Retired 1988. Been university history professor ever since. Tomorrow (2.8.24) teaching class about Vietnam War. Just downloaded the music to play as intro. Sometimes I have to stop a second or two remembering the things I saw, have studied and taught all these years. Always invite all students, registered or not, for this class. Now have children of former students learning about the tragedy.
God bless all of you vets that came back I feel so horrible that our people treated You the way they did that was not right .they had no right to do that to Y'all !!!!!
And, nothing's changed except the doomsday clock. We have to remember Vietnam. Corporate greed still sending our children off to pointless wars so a few can swell their wealth. My hubby was on the Connie, but after the war--finally--ended. I know what the propaganda was, but who really benefited except Raytheon?

To all the Veterans here I want to thank you for your service and sacrifices. I am the daughter of a Vietnam Vet ( He fought that war until the day he died in 2019. ) and I joined in the late 80's because I was so proud to be his daughter. Love to all.
I’m just 50 but this era of music is easily the BEST music ever written! It’s my daily inspiration and compassion for this ever changing world with all its ups and downs. You men make me more proud to be American than all lot of the crap going on in this world today!
Happy to hear you and he were close. My ex. died in 2013. I was with him all through his time in Vietnam, when he came home he was 'different'. Our marriage didn't make it, but we stayed friends until he passed. I do miss him and think of him...often. Blesses to you. and your step-dad.

I wanted to join but they turned me down. But my brother and his friend joined about two weeks before they were to be drafted. They went into the Marines on the buddy plan but got separated in the madness. My brother became a snip in 67 and lasted till 69. He stepped on a mine but he lived. After the two year stent in the VA hospital in Tennessee he finally came home. Anyway long story short he learned to half way walk again. Doctors said he probably won't live maybe a couple of years. Well he lived 52 years after that expiration date. He lived his life his way, fast cars, great music like this. Well five years ago it all ended and he is very much missed. I now have most of the music he had. I have loved this music sence the 60's. I now have the honor of being able to hold his metals from his time in Vietnam.
I was a truck driver, I had the most important job ,I went and got the food, every day..lucky I made it back home, after 13 months 13 days, my lucky number.we had no business being there .The Johnsons made millions. We don't need our boys to go anywhere ,but to our borders
Hats off to you all. I'm a Brit and so watched events unravel from afar. Nevertheless, even as an outsider on the reality of it all, these tunes provided a soundtrack to my life. Rock On Guys.

My Dad took his life in 1983. He made it home from the war, but brought the war home with him like so many other soldiers. A battle he couldnt fight and win. Its a shame that it took so long to get these Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, And Sailors the mental help they needed to continue life after the war. I'd give anything to have him here. So God Bless all the warriors of the Vietnam war!
I'm sorry to hear about your father. Another brother had to confront a soldier's dilemma and decided he couldn't win this battle. Those of us who were not Rambo, but showed up, as young impetuous teens, came quickly into manhood, or went home in bags. As a young teen, it was easy to fill our heads with ideas of heroics and glory, Young, patriotic, never questioned if we were doing the right thing, and easily learned to hate, whoever the enemy was said to be. Not a bad thing for a soldier. Then the war ends when you ride that magic carpet back to civilization. You learn you're not a hero, you're actually spit on and called a murderer, only now, you have the time to think about it, and surprise, your morals sprouted. So, Soldiers, I mean all service people, put aside their religious and ethical morals to survive and perform War. We're reminded killing each other is sinful, we knew this and still chose to do what we did and so our first sacrifice is we violate our own faith, to protect others. Then as we age and the world revolves, other wars come and go and each Veteran then asks themselves, would we do it again, and reject our moral and religious beliefs and kill again? When the answer is Yes, our biggest problem arises. We understand, we gave up Heaven when we volunteered for Hell. May God forgive all who went to war.
Sorry to hear about your father.i know what he went thru have lost a few friends.i wax there 53 years ago and after all this time it has been coming back to me.i will continue to fight it and hope to win. I am now 78
Be proud of your father son. He served his country when called. This is what the Lord God directs us to do in His word. None of us live forever. Surely hope you "hook-up" with your dad in the next life...
I served 18 months in Vietnam. On Flag Day 1968, I was one of five out of ten who survived a sixteen-hour battle. The National Liberation Front [Viet Cong] had decided they would make an example of the Vietnamese villagers who had decided to cooperate with the Americans, We kept our word and kept them safe. We found 50 dead Cong at the close of the battler. This was a transformational experience.
LAMENTABLEMENTE LO QUE NO SE DICE: E.E.U.U. TUVO MILLONARIAS PÉRDIDAS POR NADA. Y MILES DE HOMBRES Y MUJERES MURIERON POR UNA CAUSA INÚTIL.......... BIEN POR CASSIUS CLAY...
My dad was in the VERY beginning, those early years when there was no media, no mission..kind of like Ukraine now..he was lucky, thn my uncle went when he was 17, re up'd, went back, came back and was NEVER the same again! God Bless them both, and all who lived/survived to tell us about the horrors.
Played this while having a few Seagram 7 cokes for my classmate & army brother Tim who enlisted with me in April 1969 , June 69, 7 days after High School Graduation, we were on our way to Ft. Lewis for basic. We were both just 18. He went onto Infantry AIT & then to Vietnam/ Cambodia and I went on to HAWK missles & on to the DMZ in Korea. We kept in contact while I was in Korea...till he went into Cambodia. When he got out I picked him up at the airport. We had some good times. Tim passed away from a heart attack a couple years ago. May his memory be blessed. Miss you brother. Yes we had the best music & fastest cars.
Grew up in Tacoma right next to Ft. Lewis. One of my co works went to boot camp at Ft Lewis. They had no room for him to sleep in the barrack's so he went home every night.
I am almost 73 years young and did 2 full tours as a crew chief on a medivac helo and still wake up scared and sweating. But we listened to these tones while flying on missions
I'm a Vietnam Air Force Vet and returned December 1968. I was so happy to set foot on American soil. When I got off the plane at the airport I was expecting people to have smiling faces but boy was I wrong. People looked down their nose at us as if we were shit. We were expecting, welcome home, greetings. Even now it still bothers me.
Mr. B. Here ! I’m a 70 year old , who serviced non combat vet. Some of the comments calling Viet Nam vets cowards has piss me off . I have try to keep my comments to myself, but the A holds who dis-honored you guys that were in combat are so full CaCa ! I met many vets in my career one Marine (Marine) who’s post was overrun at the DMZ , he toll me not to let Snot noses , that we are a brotherhood . We who service with honor are 2nd none . We were lie to as young man , we did what was right at time. I enlisted . Today the A holds who are out there lie to many Americans ! War suck we all agree but no one who has not served has any right to call Combat vets Cowards or Losers ! We serviced came home are uniforms came off but we took a oath as Americans to protect the Constitution and that my brothers stands today, F those who do not understand the music kept many of you guys alive and something to come home . I honored all who paid the highest price of our time and before . 🍸🎶🔊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
@@Dirtdabber1972 Mr. B. Here ! Merry Christmas brother and those who did not come home ! Merry Christmas to all who service and now come 2024 we need to save our Constituents , we know what is right no man is above the law ! We are a Republic rule by law not lies ! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👀😎👍🍸🍸🍸
Thank you for your service not everyone knows our history so some just don’t understand some of yall didn’t know what you all were getting into back then, ignore the hate at least you know the truth.
Vietnam Air Force staff sargeant. God bless all who lost their lives AND those that came back. It was an honor to serve with y’all. Love this music then and still listen today. Turning 70 years old this year. I spent my 19th birthday in boot camp.
Greeting Philip I am a Nam vet age 72 now, I never have talked about Nam to anyone, one of the lucky ones who made it back , to a country who hated us, no respect at all for any of us young kids.
@@ocgmike132 Boot Camp at Paris Island is tough, but will make you proud Semper Fi meaning Latin for “Always Faithful,” Semper Fidelis is the motto of every Marine-an eternal and collective commitment to the success of our battles, the progress of our Nation, and the steadfast loyalty to the fellow Marines we fight alongside.
I'm so sorry for your loss sir. Thank you and all your brothers for y'all's service and all the sacrifices y'all made. Even though you weren't showed the love y'all should have been shown coming home just know there are people like me and many other who still love and honor each and every single one of y'all for everything y'all had to do and see over there.
I had a friend who I served with and he ended up dying many years later but we had that close bond from the Army and talked almost daily and would get together several times a year. I couldn't speak for a week after his death. We were kids when we were in and stayed close friends for over 40 years.
Thank you to ALL who Served in Vietnam !! And Remembering those who Gave The ULTIMATE SACRIFICE.. NEVER FORGETTING Their Families . Bless you ALL !! WELCOME HOME !!!
Thankyou All Vietnam veterans 🇺🇸🇦🇺👍 thankyou so f ING much for a huge sacrifice you all made my dad past away on my birthday August 17th 2009 never forget boys that where men.. thankyou very much appreciated 👍👍👍
I was a Brit in Germany in 69 play'in in bands in the GI camps... some of which serviced the Vietnam war effort with troops and materials; bad war, great soldiers great music!
FUCK YEAH! Old Timmer. Im 62 retired. Did a 4 yr tour with USAF. My oldest Brother died on some Fucking Hill. In the Nha Trang Valley. 67. I was 6. Rock On Bro.
I am a Desert Storm Veteran that lived on Vietnam-era music until "grunge" came along, but shamelessly returned to my roots of the "JIMI-Led Zeppelin REVOLUTION" that made our war mongering gvt. spy on so many of our musical heroes of yesteryear. You can't make this sh*t up; even Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees in recent years has tangled w the federal gvt over spying on them in the 60's because Uncle Sam thought they were anti-war hippie insurgents. GREAT SCOTT
Sometimes our leadership really sucks. I lived next door to a guy who was part of President Kennedy's 1960's program that tested security on our Strategic Air Command bases. After JFK was assassinated the program was targeted by some Generals who were embarrassed by security failures that the program uncovered. My neighbor told me that the government had been making his life miserable for quite a while. He was kicked out of the Army and had lost several good jobs over the years because of it. This was in 1988. One day he called me and told me to look out my front window where I saw two identical cars in front of his house. He told me to watch what happens when he comes out and writes the license numbers down. The cars pulled up next to each other for a short conversation and then as they drove off I saw that they both had US Government plates.
You guys make me proud to be an American. I always thought I disappointed my dad as he was drafted in 66 but he always said every American should serve mandatory 2 year military service right out of high school. He said it would help the attitudes of these young punks. I never joined but I’m thank ful it was not mandatory but I also know if Uncle Sam calls on me I’ll be the first one in line because all I have done is reap the benefit of what you veterans did for me and I get to live a fantastic safe life with my wife and kids and bring them up the right way in the land that so many fought and died and all the families that were tore apart for so many years it hurt them bad and that is why I thank god every day for vets and my freedoms I most definitely do not take it for granted. If I could meet you all I’d give a big ole country salute to you all and thank them for the life I get to live at YOUR COST. God bless you all VETS. I can’t thank you enough. God could you imagine if we’d have lost ww2 and had hitler design this piece of ground called Merica! And your right. Vets should not be homeless and I would work another job just to pay the extra tax to ensure not one vet lives on the street EVER. That’s my service to my country what ever it takes to give every last one of them a home and meals what ever it takes folks.
Sir thank you for that TRUE from the heart comment. Dang right people that don't know what our boys and girls go through every day to make sure we are well half ass straight in multiple countries, most of the world. People need to sit and just listen to the stories those sometimes 15 to 17 yrs old kids that want to protect momma and daddy from BS. God bless our vets, "Granny - British Air Force communication, Poppa fuel tanker in Africa till they made it to Germany, uncle Carl 37 yrs US Air Force, uncle Lou, Korean war still going on, they are all gone but not forgotten for what they did for the entire globe
I can’t take this anymore . This means seeing our veterans homeless on the streets. To me our government failed our heroes throughout all administrations.
Not just Veterans, we had hope after that war but the MIC stole it from us. I thought we learned but nothing has changed. I remember friends coming home with tombstones in their eyes. Holding onto a friend who was a strong man like me and crying.
I wish people still protested war and corruption with their music. This day and age, musicians don't even play an instrument, their computer plays sample tones. Back in the sixties, people who made music and poetry knew they had a medium that could change the world, and they used it to the best of their ability. I miss this music very much. It was so real, and raw.
IDK - punk bands sometimes make strong political statements. And as yet unknown artists can be heard as well. As for mainstream . . . it's not as out front as it has been in the past. But you've piqued my interest. I'm going to hunt some anti-war and songs about injustice. The thing that popped into my head as i wrote this is rap. A lot of rap songs are full of rage about injustice, poverty, brutality.
This was the most louzy, stupid war in history that didn’t make sence. The guys that fought there, really fought their guts out, and what did they get back for it..? Not even a hand shake. SHAME….. I truly honour and thank the soldiers of the Vietnam war for their services. 58.000 gave their lives for what….?
us navy 64 to 72..subic bay, vietnam, apollo 16 recovery carrier cvs -14, med cruises, clg-7..great memories, long time away from home..still I do it all over again.
1973, in uniform, no stripes yet, in a bus station in California (my home state) - I was spit at and called a "baby killer." I never served in-country, nor did my older brother (USA) or my older cousin (USAF); all of us "Vietnam Era" Veterans. But I was proud to serve along with them, our fathers (Korea & WWII) and our grandfather (WWI) as well as my son (USA, Iraq). I make an effort to say, "Welcome Home" when I see a Vietnam Veteran ball cap. We (the people of the United States) can never undo how our Vietnam Vets were treated. All we can do now is pay our long-overdue respects. I meet currently serving troops of all branches frequently at our nearby National Cemetery and I thank them for serving during the current administration - probably the LEAST competent administration for Military issues. Scarily incompetent. May God bless ALL who are serving or who have served - and above all, those who gave all as well as their families.
With respect to your seniority. Which Gods blessing? Ares? Horus? Mars? Chiyou? Thánh Gióng? In August 1964, the U.S. entered the Vietnam War based on reports of an unprovoked attack in the Gulf of Tonkin - which the president knew were false. This is confirmed to have been a false flag not long ago. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. This is fact. Cold. Hard. Fact. "We (the people of the United States) can never undo how our Vietnam Vets were treated." Really?? What about the Vietnamese people? Jesus f Christ. Your govenment should've taken care of those who got home traumatized and broken yes. Maybe if you guys stopped glorifying "serving the country" the never ending wars would have stopped decades ago. Getting spit on by your fellow countrymen should've been a giant wake up call you might be on the wrong side. Your government sends the fighting spirited men to die overseas so the rich cowardly oligarchy class can keep total control over your "free" country. The american dream was and is a global nightmare. So sorry to burst your bubble.
Wow !!! You are someone very honorable in my eyes ,wow I was born 1969 .. January 1 st.... God Bless you all....... I always include you all onu prayer & thoughts ☮️
Wow. Maybe, "get over it". There are things like therapy and such these days. Yeah, The administration giving a trillion dollars to the military to waste it is totally incompetent. There will always be the poor and the stupids to send over to keep our gas cheap. We don't need to waste money on them as well.
THANK U FOR YOUR SERVICE! I LOST MY UNCLE TIMOTHY COOK,AS AN M.P ! SHOT WITH SHRAPNELL FROM A HAND GRENADE AT 21YRS. OLD. I HAD JUST SEEN HIM TO MY DAD,HIS OLDER BROTHER, TIMMY WAS ON LEAVE TO GO BACK! HE NEVER CAME BACK!
Thank you troop, not knowing your rank, and if the nomenclature is appropriate ,but we thank you. God bless you. I hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas
Thank you to the Vietnam War veterans. There are still about 2,600 American soldiers who are missing in Vietnam. The U.S. government has an obligation to bring these missing soldiers home. Once again, thank you for your service, and welcome home.
How much taxpayer money do you burn to do the impossible? Oh never mind, they just print more, making it more worthless and tax us more. As they continue to send money to Ukraine and other countries.
Served with the 3rd Marine division in Nam 68-69..Quangtri, Dongha, Vandergrift combat base, Khe Sanh, Camp Carrol.. Con Tien, Phu Bai Combat Base, DaNang...Just a few up north. I Corps.
some make me move, some make me cry from laughing, some make me cry over lost love, some make me cry over lost comrades, but they all stir some kind of memories and emotions. Greatest music of all times. Today's so called music make me want to throw up.
To ALL the Vietnam Veterans, Thank You. I truly have love in my heart for all of you. I watch clips on here and I cry imagining how scared you all must've been. Little Boys drafted so young, and having no idea of the living nightmare that you are about to enter. You got there, and you literally fought for your life and all of your "brothers." You'd sacrifice yourself to save each other. You walked through rain-flooded forests with VC shooting at you from trees. You walked along areas filled with grenades and trip wires. Who else ever had the courage to do those things? NO ONE. Out of all of the wars the U.S. has been in, the soldiers in Vietnam were the BRAVEST. I wish all of the entitled and ignorant stupid U.S.A. civilians couldve been forced to do just one week of what you all did over many years. Shame on them. I wish every Vietnam Vet could have memories of how strong, committed, and brave you were instead of bad memories. You are AMAZING! Hold your heads up and scream DAMN RIGHT WE WERE THE BRAVEST! WE WERE AND WILL ALWAYS BE HEROES!!! 🎉
We were committed to serve our country. We paid a vert high price. I went over at 17 and I still have nightmares and I'm 71now. Ilost everything when I went over my fiance and emotionally everything but I went and served. Because I was called to do so. I still have nightmares today.
Father was a two tour Vietnam vet, was in during the Tet, was a medvac crew chief, would not talk about it after coming home. When I joined the Army he open up to me , about 8 years ago the VA finally started getting him PTSD help.
Yes, the TET Offensive of 1968. Not good times. I was drafted into the Marines to help replace those American soldiers killed then. I remember it was Hill 10 that was overrun.
Thank you all for your service from the bottom of my heart! I knew many who served in Nam. I protested against the war while in college. I am now 73 and remain appalled at how our country treats it’s veterans.
I'm a Vet from Vietnam and even though some anti-war demonstrators were abusive, I feel the people who argue against having war are the only ones making sense. War is an unreasonable solution to an unsolvable problem. One of my greatest heroes from that era was Mohammed Ali. I look upon him as one of the most courageous Americans from that time. He refused to serve, but he refused to run or hide either. He gave up his career at its pinnacle, and went to jail voluntarily, as those were the only two options afforded him. He was a fighter for certain, but he was not a killer, and he knew it and said so. He had no reason to go Kill Vietnamese and said he would not violate his beliefs. It's not that we couldn't have used his help, but he showed so much courage in his stance, that I applauded his decision and will always have the highest regard for his anti-war stance, and his fortitude.
My father avoided the draft when he was a young man in college as well. I never disliked him for it but felt embarrased and never spoke of it. As I am no longer a young man I see why he wanted to avoid the draft. Good job dad; you took care of your family. He...well knocked my mother up in school with me; the first of a small brood. 😉
@@Fuzzy-_-Logic I respect the draft-avoidees, the young men who were drafted and served, the ones that served voluntarily and those who protested. The only ones I don't respect are the politicians who were so willing to give our young men's lives for an unwanted, unwinnable war. And double scorn for those that kept their own sons from serving or those who avoided serving themselves but later became supportive politicians. Dan Quayle and George W. Bush: I'm looking at you.
The saddest thing I've ever heard is when people say that for a lot of the Soldiers that came back, the war still wasn't over and wouldn't be for a long time, if ever.
76 YEAES OLD USN Left FOR boot camp. January the 5th. 1965. The day I turned seventeen. Great Lakes, IL. The last duty station USS Yellowstone, AD27. got out December 21st 1968 Love these songs.
I was in junior high when my brother went to Vietnam. I still have one of the letters he sent me from there. Thanks to all of you for your service to our country!
RIH Uncle Dan. the youngest KIA ever. Dan Bullock (December 21, 1953 - June 7, 1969) was a United States Marine and the youngest U.S. serviceman killed in action during the Vietnam War,
My condolences to Uncle Dan, and my gratitude for his service, but I gave your post a thumbs down. I have come across this claim of being 16 yrs old and in Vietnam, but in 1969,you had to be 17 to join any branch of service,nd 18 to be deployed to a combat zone or hazardous duty assignment. That is law and irrefutable. Now there has been an occasional occurrences when someone pretended to be a brother or cousin and take an older persons place, who was being drafted, but that was mostly done away with after WWII and Korea. After joining a branch of military at 17, you still had to complete a minimum of 16 weeks training and then given a leave. * weeks of basic and a minimum of 8 weeks of AIT, Advanced Individual Training, before you could be deployed anywhere. I don't doubt uncle Dan was the youngest casualty, I just have ambiguities about him being 15. Sorry, I just don't believe it.
In the Guard in 1982, a majority of my platoon sergeants were Vietnam veterans, as were my DIs at Basic Training (11B). They played good old rock and soul when we came out of the field from training. Fortunately, I never had to go war (The Cold War era.) However, they taught me all they had learned in Vietnam and how to survive. God Bless Them All.
I too was in a NG unit, (Trp E, 151st Cav) 1982-87. Many in our unit were Vietnam vets. One was a Vietnam and Rhodesian vet. All great guys and could teach you a LOT. I was in Iraq in 05-06 and it was a different bunch. Most enlisted and even jr. officers were good guys but many senior officers and NCOs were just not what they should have been.
Thank you to all that served! I was very young when my father served in the Navy(26 1/2 years) but remember soldiers coming home and the many ungrateful spitting on the as they returned broken a beaten down, the spitting and screaming uneducated! What was old is new again but the attacks are worse now uneducated and ungrateful that hate our country and want to give it away to illegals and foreign countries that hate us. Very 😢. I remember the great and safer country I grew up in and now I fear for my grandchildren and others grandchildren that will never know the freedom that we had! So much hatred in the world in the world this cannot continue.
does anyone believe in reincarnation? I do. I think I was killed in 1971 in Vietnam and reborn in 1977. I love the music of the 60s and 70s and 80s. Thank you God for giving me life again!
Yes, I do believe in reincarnation. In one previous life, I was an Indian woman who was mauled to death by a bear. In another life, I was a Jewish man in Dachau. People who die violently often are reincarnated because of the unresolved trauma.
@@joycewilson4939 it sounds right to me. It’s like a second chance because life before was brutal. There been times when I felt deeply sad as a little kid for no reason and felt something more spiritual guided it. I think it was knowing the life I had before was over and I had to start at the beginning with strangers in a way. I don’t remember anyone from my past lives. I just remember the impact that music of this time period has on me. It was part of my past life and this one. Sometimes still feels like the 1960s but the people have changed and everything looks different.
I read a few hundred of these comments and each one of them had an impinging effect on me. I landed in Danang in '68 and then was choppered out to "Barrier Island". I was greeted by a young Marine who handed me a used beer can with the top cut out; and said "...we have milk! And today we have our first hot food, so get it while you can." (yep, this was my first day in Vietnam) I guess I could write a book about what ensued. I was assigned to Whiskey 1-11, a mortar battery and our 4 deuce guns were firing day and night most of the time. We got hit my first night in country by sappers and VC (Viet Cong) It is an experience I'll never forget, i remember almost every moment of that year, but I lucked out and survived, maintained my sanity. When we landed back in the world I walked down the steps from the plane and it was sooo surreal; when I touched the ground I fell with true emotion and fully kissed the ground. and now at 75 I understand war and its insanity. I dream of a world where there is peace and our fellow brothers don't have to experience these things and sacrifice their lives. War is for this criminal government to harm and kill mankind. They love it.
I turned 17 in Vietnam, Army SP4, worst year of my life I thought, but then 53 years later "Agent Orange" is still kicking my ass, hard as hell to walk now, I am 70. :-( But this music is Awesome, THANKS for sharing it!
I'm sorry, I question your veracity. You say you turned 17 in Vietnam, but you had to be 17 to enlist in the Service. Then you had to be 18 to go to Vietnam. I know because I was 17 when I enlisted and had to agree to be stationed in Germany until my 18th Birthday. That's exactly what happened in 1966. I went to West Berlin until my 18th birthday when I was transferred to Vietnam in 1967. I'll give your math and/or memory a Pinnochio. Sounds like a keyboard warrior to me. My apologies if I have something wrong here, but I doubt it.
My Ex came Home in '72. We Married, I was 17, he was jst 20. Learned on my own to Deal with his Flashbacks. He was a Good man but Haunted of the War Changed the Soul.
My husband was drafted and served in Alaska guarding nuclear weapons. His younger brother joined and volunteered to go to Vietnam. He planned to make a career in the Military. He was killed in Khe Sanh. My husband was spit on as he went through the Airport in Uniform when he returned to Kentucky to bury his brother and comfort his family. So many people were lost then.
God bless the Aussies. A great bunch of Brothers. I was involved in search and rescue and we received high praise form the Aussies when they labeled us as "crazy". Our pilot certainly was. We sometimes completed missions with bits of the canopy hanging off the chopper.
as my memory is coming back I was drafted to go to Vietnam to fight . My mother looked at the letter and said no I will not sign this your dad wont , If something happened to you and you do not come home it would be too much to live with .
Thailand, Korat Aug 72-73. I turned 7 last Dec. USAF Retired 1/72-1/94. I know these songs well. God bless all who made back in, and all those who made back but their heads didn't and those poor souls who didn't !!
@@pipster1891 just a small thought?? What would you be trying to do if a foriegn nation invaded your homeland, with literally no reason to be there whatsover?
The Lord God knows I value every veteran of the Viet Nam War. I didn't go but didn't dodge either. I lost many freinds there. In my 70's now biut still grieve. Thanks to every single Vet. You're my heroes forever.
I 'won' the 1970 Vietnam Birthday Draft Lottery. Married. Working full time Buffalo General Hospital. 4-month old son. Politely said 'NO' to the US Army. Went into the US Navy. Enlisted Nuke. Then earned scholarship while on active duty. Honorable service. Completed obligated service 1980. Lieutenant USN, unrestricted Surface Line Officer. Kinda missed out on the 1970s long hair, youthful freedom and/or drug thing. Saludos a todos! RT sends, envia, Colonia Centro Histórico, Puebla, México... 73 now. Just say 'NO' to war. It's all pretty much a racket and a waste.
President Johnson''s daughters were sunning their buns while mothers' boys were shipped back to their families for closed-coffin funerals. Johnson, worst President ever. The Vietnam War was an unconstitutional, illegal police action in which 50,000 American and uncounted Vietnamese lives went down the drain for absolutely nothing. Vietnam eventually won the police action and since then have been a model, productive nation. In my son's close closet hangs a fur-collar winter jacket made in Vietnam. I have a stereo amplifier and fine single-lens-reflex digital camera kit, both made in Vietnam, post police action. Vietnam should have been left alone to develop their society as they saw fit. There are "good" communists, two of which that come to mind are Josip Broz Tito, President of Yugoslavia and Nguyễn Phú Trọng, General Secretary of Vietnam. Let's leave nations alone and stop trying to be the world's policeman.
They were VERMIN! And they killed civilians for Ho Chi Minh. The American military WON the Vietnam War. The Neo-Communists in the American Congress helped that vermin win it back!
yeah Obama and Bush and many other presidents did the same (Iraq, Iran, Lybia, Syria, Yemen....), we need more Trumps and i say this as a European... more buisness less war :)

Now have children of former students learning about the tragedy.

I am now 78
I'm so sorry
Be proud of your father son. He served his country when called. This is what the Lord God directs us to do in His word. None of us live forever. Surely hope you "hook-up" with your dad in the next life...
just sad. sorry mate.

I'm still an anti-war hippie at heart. Never lost it.
@@ritamariekelley4077 you missed the point

The government will fail your grandchildren, too. They just use us all up!
The government has done a pretty good job failing.
Not just Veterans, we had hope after that war but the MIC stole it from us. I thought we learned but nothing has changed. I remember friends coming home with tombstones in their eyes. Holding onto a friend who was a strong man like me and crying.
Of course it did.
Make some. As you said, it's easier today. Anyone can make music.
I lost my biological father in 1968 one month before my 1st birthday. RIP DAD fell in love with this music my played all these tunes love it.

Would ya happen to remember Richard Dick Johnson?
We grew up as a nation and learned we could hate war but love our troops. Still doesn’t undo what was done, though.

Wow. Maybe, "get over it". There are things like therapy and such these days. Yeah, The administration giving a trillion dollars to the military to waste it is totally incompetent. There will always be the poor and the stupids to send over to keep our gas cheap. We don't need to waste money on them as well.

As they continue to send money to Ukraine and other countries.

some make me move, some make me cry from laughing, some make me cry over lost love, some make me cry over lost comrades, but they all stir some kind of memories and emotions.
Especially so willing to put them in harm's way.
Now they want to send our boys to fight another war. It never ends with these scum politicians
I turn 19 and drank piss warm Black Label beer on the back ramp of a C1-30 in a country we weren't suppose to be in. Ty for your comment

This ole Gunny Sargent remembers this song way back in country long ago, still one of my favorites...

Fantastic selection of great songs of 60s ! Good morning Vietnam !!!!!
Welcome home!

Prayers brother !!! Praying for you.
