General Trees - "Minibus". Jamaica's first award winning music video.
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 тра 2021
- The song "Minibus" by General Trees, according to Jamaica's major newspaper, The Jamaica Gleaner, penned that, "When deejay General Trees wrote Minibus in 1985 he was simply recording a personal experience...And, along with producer Jack Scorpio, Trees made history with the first deejay song to be number one for the year. A framed certificate from RJR in Scorpio's Molynes Road, St Andrew studio is a testament to that achievement...The accompanying music video put sight to the sound of the 'vibe', Trees acting out his experience, this time for the camera. It was done in downtown Kingston where the minibuses were clustered, over at Gunboat Beach where there was a derelict JOS bus and the Lyndhurst Road depot where many were parked." The music video for that song was so popular that a category for the music video of the year was added to Jamaican entertainment award shows, and "Minibus" was the first-ever winner.

This man should have been one of the richest Jamaican artists. And nowadays artists singing garbage and turn millionaires after 2 weeks .. ... SMH KMT . Plus dem good artists don’t even get little recognition fi dem work and talent and sacrifice in the business. Shame on us Jamaicans
Facts this guy did music for the Love like many others and intern got manipulated out of making any real generations wealth profits. No wonder so much good artist today are broke and always need public support when they have health issues. An example is major mackerel when he lost one is leg. The man could not even fund is medical bill without other artistes support.
No doubt, give thanks his legacy is honoured.
Big Up General Trees. Dem DJ deh mek mi luv Reggae Music (pickney days just pop out a egg shell). When Artistes used to make songs about the facts and way of life.
@@konradwright9365 well said, Konrad.

Good memories. Back in those days music videos were played on Saturday’s at 4pm. Many people would sit and eat their big bowl of soup while watching the videos.

I wish I could turn back the hands of Time. Those were good days.
Oh, i wish those peaceful days could return to my beautiful Island,I pray dear Jesus.Touch the hearts of the murderers and Warmongers dear God,let them know threres an unseen Eye watching them 😌😉Sad
Yes I miss those days
Talk di ting!
When Dancehall was sweet 🇯🇲🇯🇲👑
This song been in my head all week never gets old
Tears comes to my eyes when I remember what Jamaica was like in the late 1970s to the early 80s. I left in 1984 went back I'm 1996 but now I heard that it is too violent to go back there. Young men killing each other and robbing people who are from overseas. I miss my country but I hope the government will do something to help the people out there
We love General Trees but, JOS was the best thing to have happened to urban transportation in Jamaica, I remember as a child riding in a Jolly Bus from Waltham Park Rd to west Parade downtown
There was an attempt to reopen J.O.S shortly after they closed it. But they already vandalized many of the buses . This caused the 1/4 million buses to remain on the Wharf for 3 & a 1/2 years They were the last set of buses that came for J.O.S ,that's why they all came painted Green & White . Miss seeing those J.O.S Buses.
Sweet music cah stop playing
Big chune 🎉. Missing these days, Jamaica 🇯🇲 is the best country in the world
It brings tears to my eyes to see and hear what my island has become
Sad indeed, and alarmingly it's a worldwide problem. People are so materialistic and self image worshipping that compassion and community care is rapidly dying.

General Trees was one of the best DJ at the times, I would venture to say he was a catalyst for Jamaican music to be loved by all of us
No doubt about that, June, especially as it relates to the acceptance and popularity of Jamaican made music videos.

Look how far God a bring we from he will never leave u or forsake us. Through so many storm he brought us through.
My dad was in highschool in the 80s, he said he used listen to General Trees alot!
Childhood memories right here.
No doubt,
Had forgotten the intrepid Roller-Skaters. Love how you captured that from both inside and outside the bus. Little slices of our culture, history and life - documentary time-capsules!!
Wayne, apart from the fact that the song was a BOOM hit, the shots taken inside and outside the bus was never seen before in music videos, and that helped to propel its popularity.
This was my life on public transportation.....back in the good old days.
As kenyan, I totally relate to this
This song brings back memories
