The mask deserves SOOO much more credit than it gets. Groundbreaking movie that is still a very much loved movie by all who see it. I was 9 when it came out and I probably watch it once a year lol Except now, I've introduced the kids to it and started a whole new generation of appreciation for a fantastic actor and an unbelievably good movie.
"I have an idea - let's make a mask movie!" "Somebody call Jim Carrey!" That's pretty much how I imagine the original meeting for the movie went. Literally only one person could play the Mask, and it's Carrey.
I think the movie very easily could have been a horror mixed with comedy. There is something creepy and scary about the green face with big teeth, I think the original comic book is more violent and scary too. You feel they very easily could have gone this route, with the same cast, set design, overall story, and it would have worked. But it probably wouldnt be a big commercial hit.
I had no wifi for a week so I was waiting for my wifi so I end up watching the mask on DVD for a week lol then mask 2 son of the mask it was funny my kids was love it this moive love I'd love him carry all his moives this one is one of favorite one good job Jim 🤗♥️

I'd say Steve Martin and Leslie Nielsen were pretty close to this style, although Jim is way more cartoony.
