Another great video. I'm surprised how well the U11 did, a year old device against a month old. Wow, I'd save my money in a heart beat and get the much cheaper U11 if I was buying for camera only. It kept up with no problem. I can't wait until the U12.
Thanks Tyler! Right, the S9 cameras are improved, but not running away from the competition like Samsung would have you believe.
After watching the video, I think the gap of points on DxOmark between both phones is just unreal. S9 has better stabilization, sharper ( or oversharpened) pics and optic zoom, while the colours and the dynamic range on the U11 was better and more true to life.
Nice comparison and its nice to see that there are some youtubers that don't forget the HTC U11.

Hi Grant thank you for the excellent comparison it was thorough and interesting to watch, I think the HTC U11 did quite well against the more modern S9+. so which one captured the more true to life colours? was the grass looking more like the S9 in real life or mroe like the U11? I think sometimes comparsions should be made against a DSLR for benchmark... I wanted to really ask you about the audio though, I noticed you recorded this one with the HTC on 3D audio and not the high res option, and I thought the Sasmsung sounded slightly fuller than the HTC U11 I wanted to know please if you use the high res option on the HTC U11 if it matches or even transcend the audio recording quality of the Samsung? thanks again!
U11 was more color accurate to me. I honestly don't use hi res audio when recording since it creates an MKV file, which needs to be converted before I can use it or upload it to UA-cam.

I must admit. The sensors lately are all amazing. Seems the main deal is how software is optimized via camera and its values. You really cant go wrong with devices with 820 CPU and up. Or around that time everyone chose the 12 mp count.
Yup, some great cameras there. This is why I'm not sure the S9 holds "the camera, reimagined" as Samsung put it. It's good, but not really leaps and bounds better as they want you to believe.
Grant S indeed. Using the pixel 2 apk on it really does it more justice.
U11 images seems super natural colours are real so clear win
Well, despite of HTC u 11 is a little bit elder than s9 I keep thinking no a lot differences, it's my point of view.
My word! The S9 plus images are just so crisp and detailed! Low light images are noise free and have good details. Nice balance with details and noise reduction, image stacking working overtime!
Each one of these comparisons is tougher than the last. S9 seemed to do a little better with reds, but considering that the U11 is from last year, I'd give the win to the U11. U11 seemed more pleasant overall, and the selfie was a little better
Yup, the S9 definitely has improved cameras, but it is doesn't seem to be running away from the competition.
Are we really going to pretend that the S9 doesn't destroy the U11 in every picture in sharpness? Just look at 1:26 and 2:50. How you going to give the win to the HTC? Haha...
Nick Motsarsky I'm looking at these on my phone without stopping each photo to analyze it, so the U11 detail isn't horribly worse considering it's also using last year's tech. Selfie camera was the tiebreaker for me too.

Thanks for the great comparison video. Overall the U11 has a very good camera but the S9 is better - whether it's worth the premium price for a new flagship is the question I guess. Disappointed in the U11's audio while filming video versus the S9 which was much better.
Nice as always. Both are fine phones with fine cameras but, unfortunately, only Samsungs phone has 3.5:( these S9s have simply everything, Samsung is doing great jobe with their hardware.

Grant S yeah, but not just any...Samsung need to use better DAC, though Qualcomm did improve audio capabilities on their chips. Something like V30, Vivo X-Play series, Meizu top phones or even OP is the 3.5 I need, god forbid Huawei's 3.5, disastrous. Samsung is keeping 3.5 to show who's the boss. That move will definitely harm Apple's followers.
Stabilization is a bit better on s9+ ...I always consider natural colours, so u know what I mean.....yes, there are more details on s9+.....

I think the htc had competed very well with s9+ but again audio by far the winner for the s9. Really like these comparison very detailed 👌
Thanks Daniel. I still think the 3D audio on the HTC is cool and it definitely worked when zooming in and out. Samsung has definitely had great audio for awhile now although I was impressed with how Sony's audio competed in the XZ Premium.
Sadly haven't had the chance to experience the htc u11 had the Sony Xperia z premium instead for a few months,
great device watched the comparison with the 9+ and the premium and the Sony was very good especially when you consider the price difference of £200 _£300 (a fair comparison I think)😉
i think you can off the 3d audio when zooming, people may take it as bad audio quality haha

Grant S, in the near future I want to buy a new phone. and since you have realy much information about it, I want to ask you. What device will be better for the quality of photos now? Htc u11(not plus), galaxy s8 or pixel 1.

If still photos are important, then of those phones: Pixel > U11 > S8. Best for still photos right now to me is the Pixel 2.
Pixel2 is definitely better in terms of photography...
Multitasking is a bit better on u11/u11+...but u get earphones and 3.5mm dongle with HTC but not with pixel 2/2xl, pixel is having the dongle
I won't consider Samsung....
Grant S, I respect your opinion. I understand that the pixel 2xl will be better, but unfortunately it's too much money. So I will stop at pixel 1

Zooming camera at the Galaxy S9 is better more focus.. You get the picture details... I own the U11.. Honest feeling.. U11 has 3D audio well samsung doesn't

Grant S ya that is true. The S9 has great overall rear cameras. The front can use some help and the dual aperture is mostly only helping in low light. But ya all the top companies are really neck and neck. Samsung just promoted it well to make everyone think its something everyone had to have!!!!

In terms of video the s9+ wins with clearer colour and in terms of pictures the HTC u11 has more colour with selfies. But with flowers pic the s9+ takes it. Now I'm confused what phone to buy the s9+ too big but the u11 size ok.

HTC U11 wins since S9+ colours are not realistic and also HTC U11's front camera is surprisingly sharper and better than S9+'s one. It also has wider view.

Your u11 probably had smugged glass, cause every picture on right side is blurred..
HTC U11 some shots are blurry. Galaxy S9 won IMO. The HTC U11 is so cheap now and so you can't go wrong with it.

U11 constantly misses the focus and the OIS is not good at all. It also tends to present richer color that is inaccurate. The front facing camera is just horrible.
The comparison is not good. The phones are in 2 different leagues.
