Completed this game a couple of hours ago for the first time, I hadn't gotten the chance to play the original release as I didn't have access to a NES at the time nor any other re-releases of it, emulators were useless, until recently when i got the Pixel Remasters for Xbox. I waited near forty years to finally play the game, weak ending but it was so satisifying to defeat the final boss after a fairly long fight and getting the point were I was getting fed up and just saying "DIE ALREADY, WILL YOU? JUST DIE!". Now to get the next five Pixel Remasters complete bit by bit.
My team was standard for every variation: Knight, Ninja, White and Black Wizard. Last night I was playing, waiting for him to cast Curaja, never did. Casted Haste and Temper on my physical attackers, Protect on all, then casted Holy and Flare for most of the fight, stopping every now and then to cast Healaga. The last round, he KOs my ninja, but my Knight and Flare was enough to finish him. This game is my comfort food in gaming.
in the original he has 2k hp and he can use cure4, which does heal him all the way back up.... in the PS1 version he has 4k and all the other ones he has 20k
Apparently the game blatantly lies to you about how much HP Chaos recovers upon casting Curaza. (I know it's called Curaja, but I'm a Kingdom Hearts fan, so I call it Curaza to be in line with the Grand Magic in that series.)The game says he regains 9999 HP, but he actually regains 20000, recovering completely and setting you back to square one.
Fun tip I don’t really see people do; find and keep the giants gloves earlier in the game. Any character can use the item to cast saber on themselves. This raises your attack power and hits which makes your main attacker hit waaay harder. The black mage learns saber but can only cast it on themself so this is the only way around that.
Beat Chaos tonight with party at Level 40. Got lucky that he used Curaja right at the start of the fight before taking any damage and never cast it again 😅
I FINALLY defeated Chaos, after trying about 20 times. it's VERY frustrating when you think you're winning but he just one shots all your characters and defeats you. The first several times, I didn't know I could upgrade my characters and make them more powerful. (IE, go from Warrior to Knight and wield the excalibur) Then I just played through the game almost from the beginning and went through the Citadel trial to become a Knight. That almost wasn't enough, because he was still defeating me. Some advice is to TEMPER your Knights attacks and use the Holy water attacks, because are the most damaging to him. Also be sure to use Healing between his attacks to keep your fighters in the battle. I lost my Ninja toward the end, but ulimately won the fight.
Got this game (with the others whole set) last year after saving up. I've finished this game (and others) on that year. Now I want to replay this game again. Cos I never thought something as basic as FF1 can be so enjoyable. The first game in the series I've played was 7.
FF1 is probably the most replayable Final Fantasy game out there. Customizing your party the way you like it gotta be the best thing about it. May I ask what teams you used?
@@janyozenith4331 On 3DS, I've picked Warrior, Thief, Red Mage and Black Mage. On PSP, I wanted to try Warrior, Red Mage, White Mage and Black Mage, but eventually I did that on Switch. Not sure which one I'll pick when I play on Wonder Swan someday or GBA. For NES/Famicom... I'll think about it.
The thing I don't like about FF is that you can't see your enemies health status, especially the bosses. You don't know how strong they really are or how much effort it's going to take to defeat them. When fighting Chaos, I had to recharge my magic a few times because I ran out while fighting him.
@@oswaldmosley2785 If you're going by the added content of the GBA and PSP versions then yeah it is inferior but Graphics wise it is more true to the Original Artwork. I think the Soundtrack is much better in the Pixel Remaster too.
These remakes are such a conceptual effing mess founded in these prevailing tacky idiotic retro revival tastes and ideas. It's more backward and definitely not forward. They had the absolutely moronic idea to reduce the sprites to their absolute original looks even tho the wonderswan color/psx ports totally enhanced them to look so much better. If you like uniform titles then why not keep them chicken nugget people (chibi) like all the rest of the games to ff6? But the very least, don't make it look like NES sprites.! That's a total regression for the worse - not for fixing any negative progress. But then you feel the need to maintain the enhanced SNES style graphics for the backgrounds even when sprites have been made to be shittier. But then you decide to not retain the outstanding final fantasy origins/PSP remastered soundtracks and remaster them a second time for the worse in most cases and not add anything. So it's just all over the place conceptually and a mess. Super Nintendo graphics always look better than NES graphics, and there's nothing "kino" about it. The pixel remasters are an extremely aggravating and idiotic mess. They also add nothing in gameplay. Also, major thing to point out is I always hated these new translations they have been using since the Game Boy Advance. In Final Fantasy Origins, where Chaos says simply, 'My life will go on forever, but yours ends now' has a poetic emphasis of epic fighting words that gets you really into the moment of the confrontation, but these bad ideas to be faithful to the Japanese text makes a poor translation to English and Western language. So you get this Asian kind of extrapolating run on talk instead that sounds dumber in comparison. 'AND SO IT GOES ON AND ON AND YOU DIE HERE BUT I WILL HE REOBORN HER AND SO THIS IS A CYCLE I HAVE CREATED THAT GOES ON AND ON AND BLABLABLA BLABLALA'

That's what I was thinking!!! I beat FFII on the PSP but could never beat this one because of this beast right here. I thought it was impossible.
I have beaten every version & Port of this game that exists and now it looks like I have a new one to beat I will never get tired of this game.
Just done this fight on my series, and wailed on him and got blasted! 😂😂 at level 50 right now, onto the grind!

My dad was fighting chaos and he healed 10000 hp (he presumably was at full hp again)
Chaos has 20,000HP so it is really annoying when he casts Curaja on himself.

So chaos is Garland? The very first boss you ever fight? Even for a game with no voice acting thats a cool twist.
Yeah the first boss is also the last boss.

I thought this version of chaos was going to be too easy for my tastes. I will definitely try this version out!
If you've played the GBA and PSP versions of FFI then you'll be alright with the Pixel Remaster version.
Me trying to beat this boss with my team at level 29, then hopping on youtube and seeing your team is 30 levels above mine .__.

He has his own Final Boss Death animation in the GBA, PSP and Pixel Remaster.
The console ports restored the long final boss death effect.

Haste does not stack but pretty much every other buff does

I got nearly 2000 hit points out of a temper attack with excalibur.
Damn I got it on the 1st try with none of those spells but I had the item. I just couldn’t find all the spells in this game.
I used the red mage instead of the fighter is it still possible to beat chaos?
Yes you'll be fine. Its possible to beat Chaos with a full team of White Mages.
