I gotta give it to Carman. I disagree with his religious views, but the man had the budget for production, he landed all the tropes with the various genres in his catalogue. Even if the lyrics aren't that deep or creative, he knew how to make a catchy tune and get people moving to the groove. I put this song on every now and again and jam to it. Whether or not it motivates me to think of a higher power, he "did the thing" successfully and makes me question sometimes. I commend you, Carman. It takes a lot to make someone think. Rest in peace.
Mother fucker still owes me a Bible LoL I never believed on gods but was raised in a conservative Christian family. Went to many Carman concerts and at one show people were raising their hands and crying in cult fashion and carman said that if we went up to the stage and repented we got to go backstage and would get a Bible. I was expecting to meet carman so I followed the sheep. But backstage we were just met by a couple of douches and they said a little prayer and I didn’t get a free Bible or meet carman.

Just found out...my heart is so sad. This man’s music helped me draw near to the Lord while I was a baby Christian. So grateful for Carman, and his purpose was fulfilled; the Lord called him home to rest.

What a great guy. When I was a preteen, a local church used to rent the nearby roller skating rink for a monthly "Church skate" for kids.. Carman's music was always in rotation! Totally agree!!!!!! The Champion (1985 I think) was the first song of his I heard. I was around 15ish at the time. I'm now 50 and feel like part of my heart has been ripped out. But I know he's rejoicing in heaven now reaping all that he has sown.

Sorry if my original comment was misleading. We didn't have a TV back then, so music and reading were all we had. They would actually kick to the beat of the music I played, and kept perfect rhythm! Music has always been a huge part of their lives (by their own choosing). They have always sung in church (and still do at 32 & 30 yrs old), in fact they lead the worship in their churches, playing guitar and bass with their husbands. It's awesome to see!
This man had old hardliners in the Church railing against him. The crusty old guys who had no spirit and no personal relationship with JC could not abide Carman's style. There was one old guy who mattered though. David Wilkerson of Times square church. David Wilkerson was very approving of Carman.\ "Thank you Carman that was wonderful. I feel the spirit of God Powerfully on you and your music, it was the same feeling I got from the work of Keith Green. Keep it up" --- David WIlkerson opening remarks in a sermon right after Carman left the stage as an opener. FYI, David Wilkerson is one of the greatest saints America ever produced. If he said you were on God's side, you were. And the event I recall listening to the transcript of was in the early to mid 1980's in a church event in Louisiana or Alabama. Again, not sure of it's location or exact date, but I think Wilkerson was preaching at an event hosted by his then friend Jimmy Swaggart. This is before Swaggart Back-slid and went crazy. Wilkerson saw PTL ministries and Swaggart's fall years before it happened. He called, wrote, and repeatedly warned Jimmy where he was going, and how wrong it was. Finally in about 1986 or so Wilkerson cut all ties to Jimmy Swaggart and wrote him a long letter detailing his inevitable fall and humiliation if he continued in his current path. Jimmy didn't listen, and we all know how steep a price he paid for it.

Totally agree!!!!!! The Champion (1985 I think) was the first song of his I heard. I was around 15ish at the time. I'm now 50 and feel like part of my heart has been ripped out. But I know he's rejoicing in heaven now reaping all that he has sown.

I will always remember the joy I had walking through Wal-Mart with my young daughters (3 & 5 yrs. old at the time) singing this song, then going up to people and asking them "Who's in the House?" If they didn't answer the right way, my girls would tell them! Jesus Christ is in the house today! Out of the mouths of babes. I wish all adults could be that bold to just walk up to somebody randomly and witness to them!

But your reply sounds like it was actually just your young girls being so genuinely moved, and excited about this song and about Jesus, that they’d sing it to strangers. If that’s the case, I do think that’s precious :)
@@DannyD-lr5yg Actually it was all them. The only part I had in it was that I listened to Carman's tapes and records when I was pregnant with them. They did the rest. Sorry if my original comment was misleading. We didn't have a TV back then, so music and reading were all we had. They would actually kick to the beat of the music I played, and kept perfect rhythm! Music has always been a huge part of their lives (by their own choosing). They have always sung in church (and still do at 32 & 30 yrs old), in fact they lead the worship in their churches, playing guitar and bass with their husbands. It's awesome to see!

This man had old hardliners in the Church railing against him. The crusty old guys who had no spirit and no personal relationship with JC could not abide Carman's style.
There was one old guy who mattered though. David Wilkerson of Times square church. David Wilkerson was very approving of Carman.\
"Thank you Carman that was wonderful. I feel the spirit of God Powerfully on you and your music, it was the same feeling I got from the work of Keith Green. Keep it up" --- David WIlkerson opening remarks in a sermon right after Carman left the stage as an opener.
FYI, David Wilkerson is one of the greatest saints America ever produced. If he said you were on God's side, you were.
And the event I recall listening to the transcript of was in the early to mid 1980's in a church event in Louisiana or Alabama. Again, not sure of it's location or exact date, but I think Wilkerson was preaching at an event hosted by his then friend Jimmy Swaggart. This is before Swaggart Back-slid and went crazy. Wilkerson saw PTL ministries and Swaggart's fall years before it happened. He called, wrote, and repeatedly warned Jimmy where he was going, and how wrong it was. Finally in about 1986 or so Wilkerson cut all ties to Jimmy Swaggart and wrote him a long letter detailing his inevitable fall and humiliation if he continued in his current path.
Jimmy didn't listen, and we all know how steep a price he paid for it.
