I agree their Average Joe look does not completely fit their sound, but the front man is wearing a bit of a douche bag hat... I really like them though - happy I stumbled on them (from a comment posted on a Heartless Bastards video). Even more impressed that they nail it so well live. Apparently they have a good following based on 17+ million views of some of their UA-cam videos.
I absolutely love to see how Greg has polished CAS to reach his dream aesthetic. 🖤 The project was a diamond on the rough in this gig . It takes effort to reach your own visions and perfection them to the point where you can portrait that so people can understand them fully and fall in love with the way you imagine them. I’m a DIE HARD CAS fan I’ve seen them live twice and im in love with them .

I was expecting an Andy Warhol camp and strange weird look to this band, with the singers androgynous voice and Velvet Underground hazy lazy feel to the songs and humour in the lyrics. Also the album cover art, definitely has a Velvet Underground influence going on there. The Latino singer is as I imagined but the band are just more normal and conventional looking than I expected.
These guys were students from Texas and practiced in the hallway of their dorms! They don't sound like a Southern band and I can hear no influence of any kind from deep Southern American sounds like blues. Their sound is retro and reminds me of Velvet Underground and that era. Clever, hip, witty and sophisticated. I think they're an amazingly talented band capable of writing some simple but good songs. Astonishing they have been around since 2008. I never heard of them until "Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby" broke into the music scene recently here in UK..where they now have a solid following. Anyway it's great to see something so new and so radically different as a new music act emerge. I asked my mother (a Velvet Underground fan) if she liked them, she said no keen which surprised me. I guess they're a band you either love or just don't get I think.. but the music is very soothing and beautiful regardless.
This reminds me of the day I discovered Black Francis, lead singer of the Pixies, was not a skinny white man, but was in fact a chubby overweight white man.

This band is surprising on so many levels. The visuals. The sound. These guys don't seem like they'd be making the music that their making, but they are - some of the most haunting and beautiful music. Just discovered them. Great! They deserve more attention!

the recording they get on their albums is just unbelievably atmospheric with that huge room reverb combined with the incredibly warm and direct vocals, but this is a still pretty darn solid. i'd definitely see them live

This version of Dreaming of You has more guitar which adds another layer to the song. But the one of the album is purer in the sense the guitar doesn't play a bigger role than the vocals.
