I agree 8/10 is a great rating for this album. I don't dislike it at all, in fact I feel like it had a good amount of what was missing from Fallen Embers, like his throwback trance builds followed by melodic dubstep drops. It also showed us a new side of illenium while keeping it fresh and unique, and I feel like this is something a lot of people can't handle because they're stuck on wanting the same sound all the time...100% agree that I wish I hadn't heard some songs beforehand, however this album in general is awesome and it was worth the wait for me.
It’s the variety that makes the intention clear behind the album: all things Illenium. I’m really impartial to Starfall, Other Side, You Were Right, Drwn, and Shivering. I'm gonna be honest... this album is a 4/10 for me. It hurts saying but Illenium's songs have fallen off a cliff for me. Back in the day when I found out about Illenium, I was just blown away. From the fantastic vocals to the big hard-hitting drops, almost every single song managed to grab my soul. I've always loved the way Illenium did his melodic drops, for me he was the best melodic bass artist out there. No one really came close for me until Nurko started coming up, who in my opinion matched Illenium and sometimes even outdid Illenium's drops. But Illenium always stayed on top, for me at least. For me ascend was really the summit and the absolute top of Illenium's music. Every single song that was on there was just... amazing. I can't remember the last time I put an entire album on repeat for days, weeks, or months,... and I still enjoy every single song from the album to this day. But after ascend, release after release he started to experiment a bit more with a more pop/pop punk influence. I didn't mind it at first, I mean getting stale is a big problem for a lot of artists and I enjoyed some of the more pop releases. Songs like superhero, crazy times and fragments really surprised me. But fallen embers did also have songs that I really hated like losing patience, heavenly side and first time. There was also one song that really stood out to me and that was sideways. Such a banger of a track and to me one of the best melodic bass songs out there. My only problem with it is that it says Illenium & Nurko in the title, but for some reason, the entire song just feels like this: "Nurko (ft. Valerie Broussard) - Sideways". Now listening to this album... Starfall blew me away, it had some elements from the old Illenium and the typical Illenium sound but with a lot of new elements as well. Such an amazing track and opener for the album, it gave me some hope going into the album that some of the new songs might be really good. But then track after track that hope kinda disappeared. There are a lot of tracks that feel really poppy and it's just not for me, sorry. The tracks that are more pop-punk vibe start off really well but then don't deliver on the drop end of things. It almost feels like he is too afraid to throw a big melodic drop in these tracks. Then a few weeks go by and here comes Nurko with a remix on some of these songs and I find them absolute bangers. Overall I'm happy that Illenium is making the music he wants to make. We all know where he came from and I will always appreciate the things he has done and will always keep loving him for it. In the end, this is my opinion and for people that love his new sound, I'm happy for you. I'll keep following Illenium but in my eyes, Nurko has taken the melodic bass spot.

Hey Insko, love your reaction vids. First watched you from the chainsmoker videos. My favourite song in the Illenium album is 'All That Really Matters', I felt like the vocals were perfect for the beat and the chord progression and overall vibe of the song was harmonising, and the vocal chops really added to the whole energy!

I liked nothing ever after a lot more than it seems you did. I think it also grows on you cuz those vocals are so damn good. Damn watching this has me so excited for Trilogy at Denver in June. Favorite artist playing four straight hours and just after my 21st! Got goosebumps thinking about it.
So interesting how other people find certain tracks better than others. I personally only really liked two of the tracks off this album, unfortunately, which were Insanity and Back To You. I'm really surprised how low you ranked Insanity.

Starfall - 8/10 All That Really Matters - 7/10 Worst Day - 8/10 From The Ashes - 9/10 Lifeline - 10/10 Eyes Wide Shut - 5/10, I love Avril & Travis and I did expect more from this collaboration but after hearing this song it feels like 'twas only made as a transition between Lifeline & Shivering. And it didn't sound ILLENIUM at all. Shivering - 10/10, I love metal & Spiritbox. You Were Right - 9/10, it could've been 10/10 but the original doesn't have the outro like what it had in one of ILLENIUM's shows. Insanity - 10/10, I love the lyrics and how it was sung. Drwn - 10/10 Other Side - 10/10, the vocals, drops, and everything is quite perfect. I Want You 2 (Stay) - 9.5/10, I only love the heavy drops here. Great album, some of the tracks arent my favorite but hey, he's making the music he wants to make. To this day, I never understood why Feel Something wasn't a part of any of his albums. This track could've made the album an absolute 10/10. Now it doesn't feel like home like there's missing something. In this comment section, I read a lot about how much criticism fallen embers received, how nurko took the melodic bass spot, how Nick should've released the singles, but at the end the album is not anywhere near bad. There are glimpses of the 2017 era, that sad but trusted feeling is allover the album, some hard tracks and bangers like I Want U 2 Stay really make my day. I give this album an eight, there's just missing one thing for me and it's a track like Feel Something

Nah not at all. I used to not really be a fan of it, but it's grown on me over the last few months, before this album. So if I heard a Seven Lions Pystrance track now, I'd probably like it :)
Starfall actually slaps soo hard.. the more I listen to it the more it grows on me, I really hope he uses this as an opener at his sets.. this whole album on another note though, getting me sooo hyped for London in October
I was an emo scum back in the day (but inside still) and I'm in love with "Back To You", probably my fav of the entire album. Nothing Even After is also sick: intro sounds like MyChemicalRomance, bridge like Thirty Seconds to Mars and then BMTH and RED.
I was quite emo back in my high school days but a wise man once said "it wasn't a phase, mom. It's a lifestyle!" ATL track is one of my faves along with the track with avril lavigne and jxden..so different from normal illenium but I am absolutely vibing with it

Great album reaction, I've listened to the entire album and I am not dissapointed. I loved listening to it, Drwn was my least favorite song. I think Eyes wide shot is my favorite song of the entire album now! Also Starfall is a really unique song! I said on your last video, a lot of songs are already released so you kinda know what to expect but I do think Luv Me A Little is a good choice for a closing song. I don't think Insanity is that bad to be honest, but I don't blame you for rating it how you want. You're not the type of fan that instantly likes everything because its ILLENIUM so I appreciate that, it is good to stay critical even if its your favorite artist :)
Absolutely loved this album all the way through, even after listening to the released singles on repeat for months on end. Something about Illenium's sound design and production is just very pleasing to my ears and I'm 100% here for it. The heavy dubstep drops, big melodic drops and amazing choice in vocalists all mesh together very well. I would say my most favorite track has to be From The Ashes since it carries a good memory for me back at Nocturnal Wonderland 2022 when he played it near the end of his set and just absolutely made the night for me on day 1. I also really love "Drwn" and I had a big smile on my face when I heard the "Don't let me drown" line, INSTANTLY making connections to BMTH and it probably has to be my 2nd most played song out of this album.
Hell yeah! This album might be my favorite one. Super diverse but just makes so much sense together as a whole. Nice fusion of some of his older sound and newer elements. You hit the nail on the head, its organized/structured v well. Other Side was a standout imo... and I will always respectfully disagree with you on Insanity haha... 9/10 rating on the album as of now.

This album straight hit that early 2000’s grungy rock vibe with worst day, insanity, nothing ever after, shivering, back to you lifeline, eyes wide shut, then gives a callback and hints of old/new Illenium vibe with luv me a little, with all my heart, you where right, from the ashes, all that really matter and then that different of style and pace with star fall, Drwn, i want you to 2 (Stay), otherside. I love Illenium and just EDM music in general, but I prefer metal, Motionless In White is my favourite band so I was so pumped to hear they were doing a song with Illenium and I really love the track. It's kinda cool because I have a brother who's favourite band/artist is Illenium whereas mine is MIW, so it's cool to see both of our favourite artists come together.
The “Luv Me a Little” vocal chops remind me of a bit of how Kygo does his vocal chops so I wouldn’t be surprised if he got influenced by his sound a bit.
This album was great. The unique approach payed off making it my #3 production based album by Illenium, my #2 lyrically/vocally and my #2 favorite album overall. Starfall; the best opener, Luv Me A Little is the worst closer from any ILLENIUM album. It surpassed expectations and Shivering is the best song and my #1 ILLENIUM song; From start to finish shivering it is a very incredible song.
I Looove the diversity and thats the only reason I can see why theres discourse about some of it. Like Illenium is on top of the game right now and can really produce every genre of edm super well. Every song isnt for everyone and thats what I love about it. If everyone loved every single thing he makes it wouldnt be as interesting. Thats why I love watching you and TKC for your opinions
This album is my favorite body of art from him. I think a lot of people want that old synthy awake stuff back and so do i really enjoy his melodic bass stuff, but this for sure feels like a step forward. Pushing the boundaries of his sound as well as his sound design. I been enjoying Rocktronic a lot, so this album for sure is for me. I do get that its not for everyone but we have to respect the quality and the variety we get with this. This album has to be a 10/10 for me, its just so much the stuff that i love, that mixture of Electronic with Pop Punk and Rock influences is just what i love. Excited to see how Illenium progresses from here
So we got Said the Sky album with much of rock/pop-punk sound, and now his friend Illenium goes almost the same way)) Not bad tbh, but i always expect some big melodic sound from Illenium. Yes, pop-punk or rock is also not bad, but you can't compare this with his emotional dubstep or melodic bass tracks. In general, this album is okay, collabs with jxdn and Motionless in White I like the most for now (if we talk about new tracks on album). Also I really don't get the idea of releasing final track as single. Said the Sky did the same with Walk Me Home and it would be much better to hear final track for the album release. I was so surprised with Brave Soul on Fallen Embers as final track because it wasn't released before album, amazing mix of lyrics, vocal and drop really caught me off guard. Luv Me A Little is also pretty good final song, but yes, stupid thing that it wasn't a surprise. In general, 7.5/10 for this album and waiting for new tracks from our Illenium)

I love this album. This, to me, feels like a return to form for Illenium while also an amazing Introduction to a new sound he’ll explore. Like everyone, Starfall surprised the hell out of me. There’s a lot of songs that stands out for me but the one that did big time was Nothing Ever After. If I had to pick a favorite song on the album it would probably be Shivering but there’s a lot of songs I love just as much as Shivering so that’s why it’s tricky for me to pick an absolute favorite
Can't say I'm disappointed with this album since I didn't have high expectations going in, but it's just not for me. The songs are certainly good for what they're supposed to be, but I don't really listen to Illenium for full on rock songs. I enjoy when there's a fusion like Shivering. Still don't fault Illenium for doing what he wants to do though. Overall some solid playlist adds, but other than Shivering and maybe Starfall, nothing that I really love. Drwn also reminds me of Taking Me Higher and No Time Like Now from Awake. A nice change of pace.
Ascend is absolutely #1 Illenium album for me, has the most variety and everything it has is executed perfectly with a great flow making it feel like a journey. Fallen Embers was my least favorite with Ashes and Awake constantly switching places in the middle. This was his weirdest album release for me, it's the most foggy ive been with my opinion. It feels like it'll take a long time before i can organize my thoughts to be concrete enough to rank it. But i do know I'm in love with Starfall, and Drwn and I Want You 2 (Stay). I've been so craving more instrumental leaning songs from Illenium. They've pretty much all been amazing for me, from all the ones on Awake to his super old single "So Wrong" and now these new ones which feel like fresh new ideas! Drwn's vocal chops are so ethereal, the vocals on Starfall are amazing with that great unexpected last drop, and I Want You 2 (Stay) garage-ish beat is awesome! I love hearing him branch out within EDM generally, and then i think he just needs to better mix the rock influences with EDM in a unique way because having a straight pop punk type track like Eyes Wide Shut feels like such a missed opportunity for me. And since i also love rock, metal, and punk stuff from proper bands, i hear that kind of song from him and get sad because it just doesnt compare to the same kind of stuff from proper bands. For example the guitars are good but dont do anything interesting, no memorable riffs just good chords, so i end up wanting to listen to other artists for that sound. BUT if he were to put his own spin on it, by having rocky verses/choruses but then adding some drops based on the guitars for example like glitching, distorting, or manipulating them to meld them with EDM i think it would make it feel so much more like his own thing instead of just trying to play a pop punk banger straight. But seriously love this dude's music even when the vibes he goes for fall flat for me, the production quality literally never falls by the wayside, it's really just me craving even more ambition for his stuff
and also wish luv me a little was left up for the album experience, I think opening and closing tracks should be completely excluded from being singles, but even so it would've been nice if he revealed tracklist before it so I could knowingly choose to save it for the album experience

Great album, some of the tracks arent my favorite but hey, he's making the music he wants to make. To this day, I never understood why Feel Something wasn't a part of any of his albums. This track could've made the album an absolute 10/10. Now it doesn't feel like home like there's missing something. In this comment section, I read a lot about how much criticism fallen embers received, how nurko took the melodic bass spot, how Nick should've released the singles, but at the end the album is not anywhere near bad. There are glimpses of the 2017 era, that sad but trusted feeling is allover the album, some hard tracks and bangers like I Want U 2 Stay really make my day. I give this album an eight, there's just missing one thing for me and it's a track like Feel Something

How you have DRWN a higher rating than it is mad. lol To me its a solid 7 rating. waited almost 2 years for You Were Right to finally release after hearing at edc and it did not disappoint. Going to have this album on repeat for a good while.

Nah not at all. I used to not really be a fan of it, but it's grown on me over the last few months, before this album. So if I heard a Seven Lions Pystrance track now, I'd probably like it :)

I guess it feels like so far the tracks he's released in that vain feel like they're missing depth, which doesn't need to be huge drops like he's done before or even drops at all, just something more going on than a catchy vocal

Great album reaction, I've listened to the entire album and I am not dissapointed. I loved listening to it, Drwn was my least favorite song. I think Eyes wide shot is my favorite song of the entire album now! Also Starfall is a really unique song! I said on your last video, a lot of songs are already released so you kinda know what to expect but I do think Luv Me A Little is a good choice for a closing song. I don't think Insanity is that bad to be honest, but I don't blame you for rating it how you want. You're not the type of fan that instantly likes everything because its ILLENIUM so I appreciate that, it is good to stay critical even if its your favorite artist :)

Absolutely loved this album all the way through, even after listening to the released singles on repeat for months on end. Something about Illenium's sound design and production is just very pleasing to my ears and I'm 100% here for it. The heavy dubstep drops, big melodic drops and amazing choice in vocalists all mesh together very well. I would say my most favorite track has to be From The Ashes since it carries a good memory for me back at Nocturnal Wonderland 2022 when he played it near the end of his set and just absolutely made the night for me on day 1. I also really love "Drwn" and I had a big smile on my face when I heard the "Don't let me drown" line, INSTANTLY making connections to BMTH and it probably has to be my 2nd most played song out of this album.

Hell yeah! This album might be my favorite one. Super diverse but just makes so much sense together as a whole. Nice fusion of some of his older sound and newer elements. You hit the nail on the head, its organized/structured v well. Other Side was a standout imo... and I will always respectfully disagree with you on Insanity haha... 9/10 rating on the album as of now.

This album straight hit that early 2000’s grungy rock vibe with worst day, insanity, nothing ever after, shivering, back to you lifeline, eyes wide shut, then gives a callback and hints of old/new Illenium vibe with luv me a little, with all my heart, you where right, from the ashes, all that really matter and then that different of style and pace with star fall, Drwn, i want you to 2 (Stay), otherside.

I love Illenium and just EDM music in general, but I prefer metal, Motionless In White is my favourite band so I was so pumped to hear they were doing a song with Illenium and I really love the track. It's kinda cool because I have a brother who's favourite band/artist is Illenium whereas mine is MIW, so it's cool to see both of our favourite artists come together.

The “Luv Me a Little” vocal chops remind me of a bit of how Kygo does his vocal chops so I wouldn’t be surprised if he got influenced by his sound a bit.
This album was great. The unique approach payed off making it my #3 production based album by Illenium, my #2 lyrically/vocally and my #2 favorite album overall. Starfall; the best opener, Luv Me A Little is the worst closer from any ILLENIUM album. It surpassed expectations and Shivering is the best song and my #1 ILLENIUM song; From start to finish shivering it is a very incredible song.
Compare to Ashes, Awake, Ascend, Fallen Embers this album is too weak.
I Looove the diversity and thats the only reason I can see why theres discourse about some of it. Like Illenium is on top of the game right now and can really produce every genre of edm super well. Every song isnt for everyone and thats what I love about it. If everyone loved every single thing he makes it wouldnt be as interesting. Thats why I love watching you and TKC for your opinions
My favorite is "Starfall", and close second and third are "All that Really Matters", and "Worst Day."

This album is my favorite body of art from him. I think a lot of people want that old synthy awake stuff back and so do i really enjoy his melodic bass stuff, but this for sure feels like a step forward. Pushing the boundaries of his sound as well as his sound design. I been enjoying Rocktronic a lot, so this album for sure is for me. I do get that its not for everyone but we have to respect the quality and the variety we get with this. This album has to be a 10/10 for me, its just so much the stuff that i love, that mixture of Electronic with Pop Punk and Rock influences is just what i love. Excited to see how Illenium progresses from here
So we got Said the Sky album with much of rock/pop-punk sound, and now his friend Illenium goes almost the same way)) Not bad tbh, but i always expect some big melodic sound from Illenium. Yes, pop-punk or rock is also not bad, but you can't compare this with his emotional dubstep or melodic bass tracks. In general, this album is okay, collabs with jxdn and Motionless in White I like the most for now (if we talk about new tracks on album). Also I really don't get the idea of releasing final track as single. Said the Sky did the same with Walk Me Home and it would be much better to hear final track for the album release. I was so surprised with Brave Soul on Fallen Embers as final track because it wasn't released before album, amazing mix of lyrics, vocal and drop really caught me off guard. Luv Me A Little is also pretty good final song, but yes, stupid thing that it wasn't a surprise. In general, 7.5/10 for this album and waiting for new tracks from our Illenium)

I love this album. This, to me, feels like a return to form for Illenium while also an amazing Introduction to a new sound he’ll explore. Like everyone, Starfall surprised the hell out of me. There’s a lot of songs that stands out for me but the one that did big time was Nothing Ever After. If I had to pick a favorite song on the album it would probably be Shivering but there’s a lot of songs I love just as much as Shivering so that’s why it’s tricky for me to pick an absolute favorite

Can't say I'm disappointed with this album since I didn't have high expectations going in, but it's just not for me. The songs are certainly good for what they're supposed to be, but I don't really listen to Illenium for full on rock songs. I enjoy when there's a fusion like Shivering. Still don't fault Illenium for doing what he wants to do though. Overall some solid playlist adds, but other than Shivering and maybe Starfall, nothing that I really love.
Drwn also reminds me of Taking Me Higher and No Time Like Now from Awake. A nice change of pace.

Ascend is absolutely #1 Illenium album for me, has the most variety and everything it has is executed perfectly with a great flow making it feel like a journey. Fallen Embers was my least favorite with Ashes and Awake constantly switching places in the middle. This was his weirdest album release for me, it's the most foggy ive been with my opinion. It feels like it'll take a long time before i can organize my thoughts to be concrete enough to rank it. But i do know I'm in love with Starfall, and Drwn and I Want You 2 (Stay). I've been so craving more instrumental leaning songs from Illenium. They've pretty much all been amazing for me, from all the ones on Awake to his super old single "So Wrong" and now these new ones which feel like fresh new ideas! Drwn's vocal chops are so ethereal, the vocals on Starfall are amazing with that great unexpected last drop, and I Want You 2 (Stay) garage-ish beat is awesome! I love hearing him branch out within EDM generally, and then i think he just needs to better mix the rock influences with EDM in a unique way because having a straight pop punk type track like Eyes Wide Shut feels like such a missed opportunity for me. And since i also love rock, metal, and punk stuff from proper bands, i hear that kind of song from him and get sad because it just doesnt compare to the same kind of stuff from proper bands. For example the guitars are good but dont do anything interesting, no memorable riffs just good chords, so i end up wanting to listen to other artists for that sound. BUT if he were to put his own spin on it, by having rocky verses/choruses but then adding some drops based on the guitars for example like glitching, distorting, or manipulating them to meld them with EDM i think it would make it feel so much more like his own thing instead of just trying to play a pop punk banger straight. But seriously love this dude's music even when the vibes he goes for fall flat for me, the production quality literally never falls by the wayside, it's really just me craving even more ambition for his stuff
and also wish luv me a little was left up for the album experience, I think opening and closing tracks should be completely excluded from being singles, but even so it would've been nice if he revealed tracklist before it so I could knowingly choose to save it for the album experience
