      Well you have some points there but the reality of the situation as recorded and upon reflections of some main actors of the time, did indicate that:
      -i) Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John's coup of 15th May 1979 failed and he was adopted by the Capt. Biakye Djan's 4 June 1979 coup dètat;
      -ii) Capt. Boakye Djan was the spokeman and the real leader of AFRC coup notably when Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John was locked up and awaiting his sentencing for treason;
      -iii) Thus making Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John the chairman of AFRC was nothing but as a facade for public acceptance as at the time he was the being clamoured for by loads of Ghanaians from his comments during his court marshall. But the true leader of AFRC was Capt. Boakye Djan and he was their spokesman;
      -iv) It was an intelligent move by AFRC to use Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John as their chairman though without authority, but so as the coup gains public or civilians support and acceprance which is mandatory for any government.

      In principles I can understand your point and it is logically reasonable but not necessarily correct boss Akwesi. Because understanding events of humans is not only about logic, hence making the June 4, 1979 case an exceptional one with Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John's who lead the abortive coup of May 15, 1979 as neither the brainchild nor the leader of June 4, 1979 coup and invariably making him a follower disguised as the leader.
      Following this understanding, whatever he Fly Lft. Jerry Rawlings John thinks or feels or verbalises carries no weight and can be rubbished by the orchestrators of the June 4, 1979 coup, and this was confirmed by Gen. Joshua Hamidu who was the then Chief of Army Staff.

    Your analysis seems credible. I have watched interviews of Boakye Gyan, he basically validated your claim -- that Rawlings was a puppet of theirs. He said they called the shots from behind but put forth Rawlings as the face of the revolution because the people had fallen in love with him.
    Notwithstanding, Rawlings must still bear blames or share accolades over whatever the AFRC did. I have watched Rawlings in one interview, where he nonchalantly said that some of those officers/leaders, even though they could have been innocent, had to be sacrificed. Even though I was a fan of Rawlings', I was still appalled that he would cavalierly say or do something that Hitleric/Stalinistic.

      In other to avoid doubts it is worth reading the AFRC/Ghana Armed Forces trial of Gen. Acheampong as heard by the 15 member panel, of which am yet to retrieve from the Ghana Armed Forces. This court marshall report if received or declassified would be of immense help.
      In the face of the contrasting reports some issues stands out as:
      - Gen. Acheampong being the main signatory of the only window of a 'chit' system of an import licence. Such has the tendency of favouritism and possible corruption of 10% creaming off as personal gains for being the signatory. Am not by this claiming Gen. Acheampong was involved in taking 10% bribe before issuing out the import 'chit' as I have no evidence to this effect:
      - other accounts has it that he was nepotistic and appointing his cousin as supply commission boss, and two others to state offices that were aligned to imports;
      - most heard was the allegation of he favouring women with gifts of an automobile in exchange for sex. This is another allegation yet to be substantiated but we have lost that opportunity.
      Postmortem thought that is in favour of Gen. Acheampong was the lack of a proper trial given him. Such hindsight error makes a strong case for him, though it can be countered with his 1972 coup being a treasonable offence.
      It is a mixed bag kind of case for now until more evidence especially the Ghana Armed Forces court marshall hearing report is made open.
      Generally as a democratic country, persons are innocent until proven guilty.

And the treason charge also comes with questions. Why wasn’t he executed with the likes of Agbo and Solemey? Why was General Ankrah not charged with that too? Let’s just be straight and say the truth as it is. There were ulterior motives. Those killings were unnecessary and not done right. Don’t justify it in anyway. It changed nothing. Jerry Rawlings John was a captive of the AFRC as they freed him from cells and a would be pronouncement of guilty of treason and sentenced to death by the court marshall on the same June 4, 1979. The instructive word is captive, hence he could not resign from the AFRC, else what was pending on him could or may have to be executed. Implying he only had to obey the instructions of his captors or he gets executed by death sentence.
      Thus it is natural he would rather stay with his captors and save his life, which is a sense of self preservation instinct in every human than think of resigning and being killed.

    June 4th 1979 was a dark chapter and evil timeline .

    • @politicallycorrectghana1274
      @politicallycorrectghana1274  3 місяці тому

      On the contrary June 4, 1979 was an inevitable event of a turning point in Ghana's political history, I would think. Prior to the coup detat in 1979, there were widespread unethical practices in Ghana as:
      - hoarding of goods including food;
      - 100% price hikes of goods deliberating and seeking over and unethical profits (kabule);
      - shortage of essential commodities including toilet soap;
      - democracy was frozen and governing the country was moving from a military rule to a union government without a chance of a choice of political parties participation in governance;
      - foreign currency was hard to get and dollars or punds sterling were not available on the market;
      - importation of goods was a major challenge with a strict approval regime in place with only the head of states (Gen. Acheampong) import chit being the only option;
      - society's morals were degenerating with instances of makola women pouring urine on soldiers through the markets amidst hooting;
      - senior military officers were frequently using the junior ranks as gardeners and house keepers;
      - wives of junior officers who were not military officers were used as maids to the wives of the officers;
      - junior officers of the armed forces had torn clothes and worn out boots, and many more were the malpractices of that era.
      The whole country like a system had reached its kink point and needed to be reformed in form or another called a revolution or change.
      On hindsight, Ghana in 1979 needed a change from military rule to civilian rule, then a free market economy, general liberalisation of the money market, increased local consumables production and importantly ceasation of disrespect towards middle class public servants and replaced with respect for the working class.

      Yes Abrewanana, I agree with you that I do have some ethnicentric tendencies, however it does not take precedence in my work.
      If you are in doubt about the fact that Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John was against the killing of the top military officers that including three heads of state (Gen. Acheampong, Gen. Akufo and Gen. Afrifa) do read the link below and specifically paragrah 3 lines 6 to 10 where it is better captured by Gen. Hamidu himself.
      www.google.com/amp/s/www.modernghana.com/amp/news/19311/jj-opposed-afrifas-execution-hamidu.html
      For the purposes of objectivity do read the Washington Post or New York Times publications of 4 -26 June 1979 on events in Ghana at the time.
      On your submission that the popular accepted view be it in Ghana or external that Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John was the one who executed the top military officers in 1979 is near correct because I do not have empirical data to that claim, all the same the vlog under discussions is to help clarify the situation and exonerate the innocent who has been vilified and blamed for those murders based on analysing various publications.
      Do me a favour if you can to help locate the recording of the military hearing of those murdered military officers before the firing squad of the top in 1979, as this would help resolve alot.
      Abrewanana, it is incumbent on us as educated people to investigate issues for facts irrespective of whatever the popular view is, as this way we should be establiahing facts and not be pushing popular views that are sometimes erroneous.
      Also be reminded that it would be disingenuous and unethical on our part to keep blaming the innocent person(s) for crimes we know out of investigations they did not commit.
      God save the innocent ones from persecution and help us uphold our jurisprudence pointer of 'innocence until proven guilty'.

      Must likely UP turned into NPP.

      Good morning Victor. Hope you are keeping fine?
      Wishing you a Happy Fathers Day.
      Thank you for watching the vlog and to your substantive message, please am not into propaganda. Propaganda is where one receives a message and runs with it as though it is originating from him or her, however in the vlog under discussions I did make reference to published materials of which are available online thus a secondary data analysis, so it ceases to be propaganda to start with. There is a gulf of a difference between propaganda and research and the vlog you watched is a researched work in visual form for oir children and grandchildren to learn from in the future. With regards to those of us watching today, it serves as reminder and offering a retrospective thought to events as against rumour that we might have bought into as believe without seeking authentication.
      Then, that of your question of my geographical location in 1979, I was shutting inbetween Dansoman and Bubuiashie in Accra Ghana with the Ghana Armed Forces fighter jets flying over during the coups of that time in Ghana.
      I hope my responses are adequate but am open for more comments.
      Least I forget, please Victor if you have more and authentic information about the coup dètat of 1979 in Ghana to share that can be corroborated by a source do not hesistate to let me know. Thank you again for watching 🙏🏿🙏🏽🙏😀

      There's nothing wrong if what one is saying have no sense, and some one point to him
      And what you're saying was not making any sense. J J did the killing, including the three judges and the army officer. Everyone knows that

    What is your intent for this video? Struggling to defend indefensible?
    You deserve insult but I won't because, what stopped JJ from apologizing to the family when he had 19year rule. He was the leader so who we blame? The painful aspect is that he had the opportunity to defend himself while in office for 19 years. Do you remember his defense on Afirifa case when he met Kwaku sakyi Addo? Why didnt he speak about how the rest were killed.
    Pls STOP THAT! STOP KORAA!!
    What about over 900 people who mysteriously disappeared during the PNDC/NDC era?
    Your bias depicts where you are coming from and what you seek to achieve.

      @@awuahjonathan3045 Well thank you Jonathan for watching and commenting. 🙏🏽🙏🏿😀
      A careful read of your comments is ypu answering your own questions and leaving me no room for responding as you indicated 'Please STOP ...'
      Then your concluding paragraph is another inhibitive sentence and judgmental, of which is rather discriminatory and unpleasant in progressive societies.
      Need I indicate any more than that the vlog is an analysis of secondary data that exonerates the person Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John from the firing squad of the three former heads of state and other senior military officers.
      Please take your time and read the link below of which Gen. Hamidu the then head of military indicated Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John was against the executions.

      Thank you again Jonathan for reaching out and let us discuss issues in an environment deviod of written aggression while remaining inquisitorial.

    Mmmhh...from Namibia, I feel equally fitting in this discussion just as much as an original Ghanaian does, indeed by virtue of our shared common African citizenship between the two of us. Well, there are numerous documentries produced on multiple occasion as of recent times on these military sanctioned killings in Ghana in yesteryears. I mean, Rymond Aquah, England-based Andy and others have done excellent work in trying to paint a more pedantic picture on all what ensued then. Personally, I came to the drawing of this conclusion regarding responsibility to many of these killings to the following dignitaries of the period in Ghana...please do not overlook the these potential culprits into these killings: Boeke Gyan, Josua Hamido, a certain Lebanee Hozaiffe,Kojo Tshikatah and of course the main black elephant in the room around it all...JJ Rawlings. These ones, ooo noo, God forgive!
    I so submit

      Thank you Uniteekandjo 🙏🏿🙏🏼🙏 for sharing your views. Please could you clarify this issue from your post.
      1) With regards to the persons mentioned as the perpetrators of violence and murderers, it would be good if you can help me by establishing which of the two periods of revolution (June 4, 1979 or and 31 December 1981) did they operate. Pleaae do name them one after the other and their associated revolutionary times
      You mentioned Tsikata and I suspect you meant Captain Kojo Tsikata, however he was not part of the June 4, 1979 revolt but was a key figure of the 31 December 1981 revolution of Ghana.
      General Joshua Amidu as started in the video was the Army General of the June 4, 1979 era but he was not a part of the 31 December 1981 revolution.
      Let us be minded the vlog under consideration is soley a June 4, revolution era.
