I think my favorite thing about attending markets is that you get to see beautiful art/ items in person and meet some new people. I would love to see some of your framed prints for sale! -Sarah
Same! I like to meet new people and see everyone's creations in person. And great! I hope in the next few weeks to add more to my shop and some of the framed prints :)
Hi Allison! Loved the video and it was nice to catch up with you at the premiere. I love the collaboration you did with the other artist and I think they are all my favorite! So grateful to have you around
I haven't invested in doing prints before and think I should think about that option as like you I'd like to keep reasonable value of my original work. I've got work that could possibly work. Very lovely of you to share ideas.
I have done markets and sold out several times. We made children’s cute animal crocheted hats and women’s hats with changeable flowers. We were a big hit and sold out at every fair. Toward the end of our fair market days we would take anything left and make a few more and donate them to the children’s hospital. Fairs for most people are a bust. I’ve found the biggest seller I’ve had (except the hats) is food. People love food!
Wow that's amazing you sold out! Yeah, I don't depend on markets for revenue. It's better for me to focus on my channel, membership, and making classes and art!
Your work is beautiful! 🙂 I have done 1 market, but I have 3, possibly 4, coming up! I enjoy them because I like meeting people and I got some good feedback at my last one that has helped me make decisions for my business!
When I first started watching, I’ll be honest, I thought “I only want to see set up” but you nailed this booth set up video by taking us all along on ALL the things needed for a market. I haven’t done a market in about 7 years but I’ve had several booth spaces. They are not quite as much work since you don’t have to set up and tear down each time. Thank you!!! For all of the info that I had forgotten! One question- how do you have your grid wall standing? I have a show in 5 weeks and it’s a juried shell show and I’m in charge of the artistic division. (Making sure all she’ll Art is displayed for the judges). We have hanging art and table top art. But the last person had PVC pipe that was flimsy and fell over if someone walked by too fast. Thank you again for this informative video and for sharing. You are super talented.
Hi :) I really enjoyed your video, thank you so much for posting. I've just started selling my artwork, and have learned so much from you already ♥️ to answer your questions, my favorite thing about doing markets is seeing people (especially kids) get joy from my work. Whether or not they buy anything becomes irrelevant for that moment; having the ability to make people smile, even for a second, just feels "right." :) For attending, I love seeing how proud people are of their work. Every now and then, there's an authentic connection with the vendor (hasn't happened too often, but it does happen), and it's beautifully centering to experience that spark. My very first market was in December, and the second one is coming up in a few days:) it's super exciting. I hope you're doing well🐝
Happy I came across your channel. I want to check both of you and Barbra's work out, but I don't think I see her link in the description. Also I just did my first market yesterday. I was a lot to set up, but it was good.
Hi Mel! Sorry about that, I forgot to link her shop! I just linked it in the description. Also, I'm glad your first market was good! Do you plan to do more markets?
Wow.. Allison.. just wow.. Thanks for making a video with so much details.. Really appreciate all your efforts. This was very useful for me as I am planning to setup a shop/table space soon for sales of the items. You could also teach the details of making an art print, embellishing and packing them and the art of displaying in your class. Probably that could get you more revenue.. But this is great work. If people would have only seen the detailed work you have done, it could have easily sold out. Thanks for being fair and honest. It also gives us a clear idea of what we might face.
Your art is beautiful and all the little bits you put together while filming make this a great video! I'm preparing for my first market which will be at a farmers market on a beautiful estate where the owners grow food, have a lake and lots of beautiful plants. I can't wait! Thank you for sharing your experience. Take care.🤗 Ps: that snail and mushroom print is SO cute! I may purchase one as a gift for someone in the near future.💛
I just want to say that I found your channel about a month ago because I am brand new at water coloring, and you are such an inspiration. You seem like a really kind person and your art reflects that. It’s beautiful! I really like your artist vlogs. Keep up all the amazing work!
I have done art markets. It's always good to get your name out there. I absolutely hate them before and during, and never sell much. I am so glad for the internet and a new way to sell my art. I am working on my website, (still and always). I spent my stimulus money on a shop/store website (two years) and it has been six months trying to get it published. Plus I bought a larger laptop, so I could get Photoshop and InDesign, but haven't signed up with Adobe yet. I also have FineArtAmerica Account and need to make the sales start happening there. I have picked up commissions from FAA, so they do get your name out. Time is so precious. I so want to make enough money to start thinking about retiring from the "day job". I know I will have to work harder - but it will be for myself. I am going to rent POBox and get some Business Cards. You always inspire me, Allison. Thank you so much.
It's amazing how much opportunity us artists have now with the internet! Over the last four years, I've learned to not solely rely on my artwork sales for income. It puts too much pressure on my artwork and is not healthy for me mentally. I've had shop updates where I didn't sell a thing. I've had sales and didn't sell a thing either - it hurts when people don't buy my art even when it's discounted. I know how it feels Liz. It's HARD to have an art biz. My advice for you is to have multiple streams of income, not just income from selling your artwork. If you ever need help with other types of income streams you can do, let me know. I'll be happy to help you :)
I’ll be doing my first Art Market in the fall. I’ve done them in the past with quilted products (and a few paintings)but never with just artwork. The problem I see in my area is that I cannot charge what the prints /paintings are actually worth & my profit margins are so slim that I don’t know if it’s even worth while for me. I can see that getting an email list going would be a definite help but I don’t have a web site or an Etsy shop yet. My main focus right now is writing and illustrating for kids but I know I need to generate income through selling art too. I’m kinda in the same place as Liz, wanting an Art income to give up all the other jobs I do! The Market I’m doing in the fall I’m sharing a double booth space with a friend who makes amazing lamps out of anything. We will have our separate spaces but side by side to help each other out. I’m focusing on prints & stickers, maybe other “useable” art products like bags, mugs??? But I also don’t want to be stuck with a mess of mugs😜! I was thinking that after this market would be a good time to start an Etsy shop because I’d have product ready to go. I’m trying to think of smaller ticket items that people will be more likely to buy. It’s hard, especially in communities that are having a hard time economically. If I can figure this out I may be applying to a market that is in a city that’s only 1 hour away. It would be every Saturday throughout the year. But I’m not applying to get into that market until I know that’s really what I want to do.
@@hannahcrumley3103, It's always a good idea to do these with a friend, so you can do bathroom breaks and eat. I have thought about doing markets in the City. Northern Phoenix area has an artist group called Thunderbird Artists. They have been doing Fine Art Markets since the 1970s and have about four shows a year in the wintertime. Fineartamerica.com does all the merchandise, from prints to phone covers, and you just have to download good photos of your work. I would like to offer stickers and greeting cards for my site.
@@AllisonLyonArt There is a watercolor artist in TX I admire and she really has a good setup with her Website, Merchsite (FAA), and sells licenses thru a company called "Pixel". @@hannahcrumley3103 I think markets can be a good way to test out ideas and see what people want! You can try a few mugs, a few bags, and prints and such. And see what sells.
