If you have a base on a open field but not a cave then you'll need to defend against various siege equipment like grapeshots / heavies / wagons. Old map underwater cave is the most secure spot you can claim. If not depending on your guild's numbers you could claim magi cave / waterfall cave.

Breaks down to apples or oranges. Depends on what you want from the game. I see you play Conan as well, i did too. Sometimes this game's combat feels like fresh air than dodge/hit spam conan offers. Nothing flashy as that game but maybe some people prefer more grounded and less flashy approach to games?

You will need to build in such design that the rhino gets its HP chipped away while rushing into your base; rhino traps, towers along the way etc.
