Hi there, I have a B.F.A. in Art in Design and an MA in Illustration and want to get into art teaching in public or private schools, with no education degree. I'm based in Michigan and I know there is an alternative pathway that exists. However I'm not sure where to go from there, what it will take or what my chances are applying to jobs right now. Should I do something else before applying to jobs? I have an art teaching background in after school and outreach programs and also have a minor equivalent in psych so I have taken developmental psych. Would it be better to do any cont. ed or tests before applying? It would be ideal to be able to do so while teaching.
I'm actually in Florida myself. I went through an elementary ed program through WGU. I literally did everything minus my internship. I graduated with a BA in educational studies as I chose to go the alt route. I have taken my GKT and SAE. Im going at the end of the month to do my ProEd test(wish me luck!) I'm wanting to work in Marion county and hoping to land a job for the next school year. I'm not sure what else is required of me to get my license.
Ahh I’m so glad I found this comment! i’m also looking to go to WGU for my BA in educational studies, and was curious how it would work obtaining the alt certification in Florida after. I know in Hillsborough County it is very common to obtain your alternative certification while teaching full-time.
I am certified through the alternate method 30 years ago. I live in NJ and I am a teacher of the handicapped and was for 3 years before raising my children. I’ve been subbing but I want to get back into teaching. So much has changed snd I don’t know where to begin
It is a totally different world in education these days but that doesn't change the basic need for passionate teachers. We would love to have you back!
Hey I know this comment is a little older, but how well do you believe the alternate method prepared you for the job? I’m an aide in a NJ school and have been thinking about going this route, but I look at all the things the teachers do and wonder how well it prepares you.
Would love a video on the Arizona situation with districts hiring with an incomplete degree and getting a certificate.
Thanks for watching and sharing this. I will pass this along to our content creation team. Have a great rest of your day!
I’m a paraprofessional who really loves what I do, but I hardly make enough and need to work to make ends meet. How would someone like me become a teacher?
Hello Good Morning, I’m glad to find you page, very helpful information thank you.

Today I don’t have High school diploma but I really want to became teachers,

Where to go, I live in Houston Texas

Hi. I have a bachelor in business administration but I want to be an elementary school teacher. I have experience as a babysitter helping children to learn.

I have a BA in psychology and a masters in child and adolescent development. Originally from California and moved to Texas 4 years ago. Enrolled in iteach Texas. I want to be a kindergarten teacher.
Thank you for watching and sharing this with us, Clare. That is superb, we need more teachers right now! Have a great rest of your day.
that is great! how long does it take you to get certified if you have a masters in finance?
I want to be a teacher because I don't have a pathway to use my CompTIA A+ Certification for 20 years! Because I became a catch-22/infinite loop! I also love history(Music,Movies, Computers and Video games(war history too, just not really the politics of it))! I'm not sure what to do!
Hello, Jescis. We always need amazing teachers in the classroom. Your first step were to be look at the teacher certification page on the state department of education website you would like to work at.
I watched another video and the man said for alternative certification "In some cases it's matter of proving your experience?" . If not that passing a test and taking the class.
What does that mean?
Employee verification history?
Giving over bachelors degree and transcripts?
I have Industrial Technology degree and I'm applying for a architectural tech / design class. . .
But the last 6 years I've been self employed with lawn care business... Will that look bad? Ive been self employed basically my entire adult life as as a landman and other jobs. Is that bad? Idk if im spinning my wheels or not.
Question. I have 10 years experience with the railroad as an engineer & 6 years with the water department as an investigator.
how should I go about using my career experience to my academic advantage ??
Hi! You need any four year degree from an accredited university. Pass your subject area exams for your state. You can get hired with your state of eligibility, then you would have to do an alternative education program with your district or online program. Then after you complete all your program coursework and additional exams, you can get your professional certificate. Details might change depending on the the state you work in.
If the shortage is so bad, the idea of paying for additional training is insulting. I'd look into that Arizona thing or China even.
Hello, I had a bachelor's degree in Health Sciences. I want to teach Health with my degree. Is there a video of the Health (grade K-12) to watch?
Greetings Nicholas, thank you for watching. Unfortunately we do not currently have a Health K-12 course but I have alerted out curriculum development team. Have a great rest of your day!
I live in Houston,Texas with an English B.F.A. centered on Creative Writing. I'm considering teaching online & I'm aware of the alternative pathway, but I don't want to do K-12. Is there a place for me, or should i just try the 9-12 grades?
These are great questions. You could get an up-to-date answer from the Houston local school districts or Department of Education on the best route for you to take.
im currently a dental assistant looking for a career change (i started college for teaching before i became a CDA and have some credits for my GE) and im hoping an online program will help me, if anyone has any other advice that would be appreciated!
Greetings! Our program helps teachers pass their certification exams to either initially get into teaching or maintain their current positions. Most teaching positions will require a bachelor's degree at minimum. That might be the first step.
I have everything completed within my teaching degree except for A FULL SEMESTER OF STUDENT TEACHING.....what can I do to skip that and become a teacher. I don't have my degree yet because of that particular course. What are my options?
Greetings, Silk Tank. It is always best to check with your local Department of Education on matters such as this. They will have the most up-to-date requirements.
Thank you.
Are there teaching opportunities in the US for teachers based abroad? Kindly guide on the process. Thank you
Greetings Abdul, thank you for watching. Yes, we need teachers in The States. Do you have an idea of location?
@@TheLearningLiaisons Thank you for your prompt response.
Generally, no specific location. I wanted to know what it takes and the specific process involved. Thank you
Hi there, I have a Bachelor Degree in Engineering and I have more than 5 years teaching experience outside USA. I'm based in Texas now with authorization to work. Can I start teaching in Texas while acquiring the Teacher Certificate? Where do I start?
Greeting James. The best place to start would be your local school district or TX DoE. They will have the latest requirements. Have a great rest of your day!
What if you have a Masters Degree in Org Leadership degree and are interested in a leadership role ?
Hi! I’d reach out to the district you’d like to work for first. Requirement change depending on state. You would 100% need to pass your state leadership certification exam.
How difficult are these certification tests?? I’m based in NYC and I have my BA in hospitality and tourism and a MA in Kinesiology. I teach physical education, but not certified for 15 years. How hard are these exams? And how many tests does a teacher need to take in NYC to be certified?
Thank you
Greeting Em. The difficulty of these test is relative. A lot of the content is common knowledge for educators, it is the pressure of taking a test with your career/livelihood on the line that can be overwhelming.
Here is some information for NYC: www.schools.nyc.gov/careers/teachers/teacher-certification
What about for California? Is it a proctor test? I’m not good at those.
Hello I am apart of Alt cert. Teachers of Tomorrow. Do you have the program Business Education?
Greetings, Jessica. Thank you for watching. We do not currently have that bootcamp but we are always looking to expand the courses we offer. I will pass this along. Have a great rest of your day!
Hello from Buffalo New York
I’m looking around right now for information and it seems the specifics of my situation are lost in the search bar.
I am 23 and I’m currently working in the trades. I have an associates in communications/media and I love the idea of transitioning from my current job to being able to teach, specifically social studies or history, I’m of course expecting to have to go back to school in order to do this and I am more than willing to put all the effort forth.
How do I best obtain information for my specific circumstances? It seems most people transitioning to teaching already have a much more focused bachelor’s degree.
Any guidance would be really appreciated :)
Thanks for watching and sharing this with us. The best thing to do is contact your local school district or Department of Education. They will have the most up-to-date requirements and can guide you. Have a great rest of your day!
I have a bachelors degree in Psychology with a GPA of 2.6 can I still teach
Greetings Anne. You should be able to go the alternative certification route but you should always check with your state department of education before getting in too deep. In which state do you plan on teaching?
IM SUPER CONFUSED LOL I WILL HAVE A MASTERS IN EXEPTIONAL STUDE EDUCATION AND HAVE AN INTERVIEW TO BE A PRESCHOOL ESE TEACHER. I HAVE APPLIED FOR THE TEMPORARY CERTIFICATE AND CHOSE THE K TO 12 EXEPTIONAL STUDENT EDUCATION

How does this work for Canadians? I have a 4 year degree from a Canadian accredited Uni
Are you looking to be employed in The States or remain in Canada?
A lot of these schools do not want to hire you on a alternative licensure. They want teachers with completed licensures. It's very frustrating.
Is this alternate teacher certification route open to non-American citizens living outside the US?
Greetings Stephen.
CTE and traditional certification are two different things. As a CTE teacher you can likely get in based on his school district's requirements.
If you are trying to get formally certified, you need to complete a credential review and must hold a green card or SSN. After completing the credential review, you can will apply with the FL DOE for certification.
I hope that helps.
How can I get certification without any degree
Typically a degree is required to get into teaching full-time but in the current state of things, it might be best to check with your local school district or Department of Education. They may have relaxed some of their rules or have other avenues/suggestions for you to pursue. Have a great rest of your day!
I wish I had discovered this sooner. Wow, you need to research Promo'SM!!
Thanks for the suggestion but I believe we are good. Have a great rest of your day!

Hi buddy. Thanks for your excellent videos. I really appreciate each one of them cus have let me to understand several issues about the process of becoming a certified teacher in Texas. I have a question, I'm a high school teacher in Argentina with 8 years of experience. In my case, I need to get into an alternative certification program? I've been reading in the TEA's web, but I don't understand. In this case, if I already have a bachelor degree in education issued by an argentinian university and several years in the classroom, which path I have to take? I already have made an evaluation of my credential by spantransp and they've given me 3.61 in GPA. So, is it possible just preparing the texems and get certified? Thanks a lot for your help.🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
