@BCPReforged Yeah I saw the update that dropped like 12 days ago, I recorded before that dropped unfortunately Anyway, continue the hard work, can’t wait to see all of the tracks be complete!
@McSpeedster2000 would it? Why not just wait for another Mario Kart entirely? I think it was better that a lot of the tracks were half baked, that way we still get content while the have more time an resources to work on the next title.
Ok, this is the first time I actually like one of these mods, like they didn't just slap some HD textures and called it a day, but rather made improvements to the models of the tracks. Impressive. I agree though that some of the tracks would benefit with more saturation and contrast on their colors, but this is pretty nice.
There’s a youtuber called Charlie’s cafe and he remade coconut mall to be closer to the Wii version while also adding better textures to still fit with Mario kart
These are the DLC tracks, if they respected Mario Kart 8's artistic direction. The modding community has once again brought the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe scene wonderful work !
Btw the so called "snowy DK track" is known as these in every region North America: DK Summit Europe and Australia: DK's Snowboard Cross Japan: DKスノーボードクロス
These are the most impressive Mario Kart 8 retextures ive ever seen. Ive seen too many videos where they just lazily slap on some "HD" textures and call it a day but this is truly beautiful. You've earned a sub
This gives me so much joy, absolutely beautiful. All of a sudden Mario Kart is fixed and peace is restored. Edit: I do have to say that Maple Treeway doesn’t look as good as the other ones, needs some more work
MK8 already uses pre-baked raytracing. All of the lighting is static, so the developers can just pre-calculate all of the lighting data in advanced during the games development. This technique has been used for decades, with the first notable example being Valves Half-Life 2.
I like the better textures and models but I don’t at all like the toned down colour saturation from base MK8. I’m sure you can make them look more realistic without draining all the life and vibrancy out of them. Also the first two in particular feel small and cramped with the background changes. I miss my big Shroom Ridge valley with the pretty shining water. Other than those and a few nitpicks, the effort this must have taken is quite impressive.
I think this video is very missleading. RTX implies Ray Tracing and Ray Tracing doesn't update the textures, backgrounds, normalmaps etc... RTX just simulates the light realisticly. These very well done remakes of the tracks might be using RTX but there is far more into it. It's not just an option that the developer could check...
With the exception on Maple Treeway, I'm a bit torn on how to feel about these. It gains realism, detail, and consistency with the default tracks but it loses vibrancy, charm, and energy. Specifically on the SNES tracks which feel like they were supposed to be cartoony considering what the original game looked like. I honestly love how good these tracks look objectively, but to me they loose alot of personality and style in exchange when the colors are toned down so much. 😅 I wonder if there's a way to get the best of both worlds? The realistic detail with the vibrant atmosphere without them being in conflict. 🤔
Thank you, I was about to go insane as I thought I was the only one who didn't like the "RTX on". I watched the entire lap of Shroom ridge thinking those were the OG graphics and on lap 2 it was going to show the "RTX on" graphics, and then it cut to another track. Seriously? that was the "enhanced" version? Most of these felt like they just slapped hyperrealistic textures on everything and made the overall environment less vibrant. Some stuff looked cool, like some of the leaves on Maple Treeway, and I know it can be improved, but I thought all 4 tracks shown here look worse than the originals :
The main goal is to match the style of the courses in the BCP (which were ripped from Tour) with the style of the base game. Of course, as a fan project, it doesn't do it perfectly
@Musical4thWall That makes a lot more sense. To be honest I don't own the BCP, so I'm not too familiar with how some tracks look in the base game (which is why I was surprised at times), I know some tracks are ripped from Tour and while sometimes it looks too plasticky, there are times where it also has its charm
Every course in the BCP was ripped from Tour, and while some claim they weren't, they were just tracks made for Tour and then cross released in the BCP. The fans, while happy with the BCP, wanted a more accurate MK8 version of these tracks
They now fit with the base game's tracks. I always hated how half assed Nintendo was about the DX DLC. I know they weren't just ports they did do a lil tweaking to the tracks to work for MK8DX but compared to the base game's tracks? They might as well just ported them. Thanks for your hard work, Stranger 🙌
yeah I preferred driving through the track normally, but I did think about maybe still doing the double cut but then decided against it while recording
I'm not gonna lie I know the footage was mostly RTX footage, i was just like "ok you're focusing a lot on the original track, can you show off the RTX look now?"
Like I said, some properly implemented textures and baked lighting would spruce up every one of those tracks to base MK8 standards. The skybox and subtle background changes really do take it to the next level though
This is not an attack against the creator, but Wii Maple Treeway looks better in the booster course pass. The colors felt like they meshed so much better in the BCP than in this remake. Koopa Cape also felt the slightest bit off in some sections as well, but it is an improvement over the original. The other two tracks look phenomenal though.
Wow, these look far better than what we got, and the Koopa Sign at the beginning of the track is back on Koopa Cape!? Man, this just makes the booster course pass versions that much worse... what a shame Nintendo didn't put in the extra effort to make the courses look like the base game!
Fuck me this is such a big improvement on the BCP's visuals. I look forward to the day where I eventually get into Switch modding and leave this on forever.
I knew it was BCP Reforged from the Thumbnail LETSGO also if you want to have a half regular half modded playthrough for the whole lap that’s more seamless, you just save the Time Trial ghost and replay it with/without the mod on in editing and line them up
the texturing and extra modeling are much more faithful to vanilla mk8, but that snes mario circuit has the best upgrade because it looks like a real place now!!!
I wanted to see how the grass shortcut at the start of Maple Treeway looked but both of times you drove near it, you covered it with footage of the BCP version! :(
Gonna be honest, I actually prefer the official leaves for Maple Treeway. The rest of this is fantastic, but those leaves are WAY too visually noisy, and they tile much more noticeably.
overall these are pretty good but i feel like they're a bit too desaturated, almost gritty-looking (especially in DK summit). the realism aspect is accurate to the base mk8 tracks, i'd just tweak the colors a bit. this is just a small nitpick, but I do really enjoy these revisions and can't wait to see what's next!
This is the booster pass we deserved! I'm curious as to how reworked Koopa Cape would look with a red rocks palette for the cliffs, for fidelity, but other than that the courses look stunning and really highlight how outdated the BPC graphics are.
Maple needs some work with the leaf mapping, currently has way too much noise, would need a larger different texture for the longer sections. Everything else is 10/10, especially Koopa Cape, no more dirt rocks on my tropical track!
It does seem clear that there was some time constraints when making these tracks which would make sesne with how some of the Booster Course Tracks look more plasticty. I really do like the modded visuals tho
Seeing this, it makes me hate the lazy art style of the current DLC even more. Over vibrant, simplified, copy paste trash. This is the look we should have gotten like the original tracks from Mario Kart 8. Wonderfully done!
For these kinds of videos I wished more people labeled which footage is original and which is the mod. I'm not really sure the whole time which one is which....
Well, it's really hard to see, as it's on screen for just a few seconds and it's covered by the text. You have enough time to see it if you replay the section at .25x speed and look at the bottom left, and since it's almost the same color as the rocks it's best to crank up the resolution as well.
I think it's because nobody gaf about Toad Circuit while everybody gaf about Maple Treeway and DK Summit. That sounds really passive-aggressive, but I do think that is legitimately the reason.
@@De_an What does gaf mean? Also you don't understand my point. No one cared about Mario Circuit 3 either and yet they made it interesting when it was already less ugly than Toad Circuit, I meant that Maple Treeway and DK Summit didn't need fixing in the first place.
The first two look awesome, and I'd definitely keep those improvements. The other three look good, but I'd probably wouldn't keep the changes given the choice. Maple Treeway, DK Summit, and Koopa Cape look fine as they are. And I'd even go as far as to say the realistic tree textures on Maple Treeway look ugly.
Ty for the showcase ! (Though i should mention that the version of dk summit here is outdated haha, still updating my existing tracks)
@BCPReforged Yeah I saw the update that dropped like 12 days ago, I recorded before that dropped unfortunately
Anyway, continue the hard work, can’t wait to see all of the tracks be complete!
Hopefully Rosalina’s ice world can get the same treatment
I'm baffled by the amount of work that you put out there out of pure will. These are much better than Nintendo's!
Should be renamed too 'If the BCP tracks were made properly and not ripped from Mario Kart Tour'.
Too real
If they were made properly the dlc would probably take much longer.
@sikosonix901 It would have been worth it though
@McSpeedster2000 would it? Why not just wait for another Mario Kart entirely? I think it was better that a lot of the tracks were half baked, that way we still get content while the have more time an resources to work on the next title.
@sikosonix901 I'd rather wait than get something half-baked

Wish it had Coconut Mall, it needed the most
There’s a youtuber called Charlie’s cafe and he remade coconut mall to be closer to the Wii version while also adding better textures to still fit with Mario kart
So THIS is what the tracks should've looked like. Fits a lot more with the Mario Kart 8 art style
These are the DLC tracks, if they respected Mario Kart 8's artistic direction.

"If BCP tracks were made in 2014"
This hurts because it's true.
The fact that the maps from a decade ago are LEAGUES above the new tracks in visuals is sad to think about
Well yeah. Those tracks weren't ported from a mobile game.
Damn
0:12 keep in mind there’s FIVE showcased track reforges here. FIVE.
- shroom ridge
- Mario Circuit 3
- maple treeway
- snowy DK track (it has regional names)
- koopa cape
