Holly Honjo don’t feel like like a fraud, setbacks are part of the game, for everything. Its human and normal and your honesty will be appreciated more than anything, part of the reason I see so many people give up is because they expect everything to go textbook style and no two bodies are the same. Forget the scales, forget the calories, how do you FEEL?? Do you feel stronger than one year ago? Can you move with greater speed and flexibility and are you less tired? When you realise how beautifully coherent your body is at keeping you alive no matter how much we binge on alcohol, drugs or food, you gain this intense respect for you body no matter what the shape or size and you actually feel it respond to you when you give it TLC with the daily stretch or nutrition it needs - so what if you binge or setback now and then, ok now worries - back on into the game when you feel mentally strong again and no beating yourself up about it :). Trust me Holly you are on the right path and more power to you! We are all with you xxx

This will be a long comment, but just some of the tips I use to lose weight:
I feel like everyone with a significant amount of weight to lose has felt this or is currently struggling with it. I deal with it on a daily basis. You will have a million ups and downs but you just have to keep going. If you have a "cheat" meal, just keep going on through your day, don't wait until the next day to start over. Also it helps me to actually measure and write down my food, not just eyeball it. We have gotten used to bigger portions so we think anything smaller must be the right amount. We also have this idea of healthy foods being okay to eat as much as we want, but you can go over calories on "healthy" foods by not counting them in the daily goal.
Another helpful tip is to not restrict your calories as much in the beginning, you are more likely to binge because you're at too big of a deficit. For example, if you're 225 and 5'3 doing a light work out a couple times a week, an appropriate daily calorie intake is actually 1850. That's for 1 pound weight loss a week. Once you lose more weight, then you can cut more calories. You'll already be adjusted to limiting calories to 1850, so a 1500 calorie day won't be as big of a challenge.
Don't focus too much on how quickly you lose. We all want it gone now, but losing just one pound a week is 52 pounds in a year! And that's at a calorie goal that won't kill you to keep up with, so you're less likely to binge and go off for a while and gain it all back. It has to be sustainable or you're just setting yourself up for failure. I hope these help, remember that you're human, you're not alone, and it happens to all of us!

    • @HollyHonjo
      @HollyHonjo  4 роки тому +16

Hey Jessica, thanks for the great advice 😁 You have a lot of great points. Some of them are things that I know, but have never really thought about - like overeating healthy foods, I'm definitely guilty of that 😳 I don't always bother logging all my veg. I also fall into the trap of thinking that a 'cheat' meal means the whole day is over and then continue to overindulge.
Yes, as I said I need to stop eyeballing the food, lol. My eyes are clearly bigger than my stomach. Darn it!! Looks like it's back to logging.
And yes again!! 1850 calories sounds way more appealing and doable 💪🤗 Thanks for pointing that out. I've been fat for this long, a few more years (working it off slowly and steadily) isn't going to hurt. I love your advice. Thank you!! 🧡

Oh Holly! In years past, when I have exercised and tried to lose weight, I have heard other women come up to me and say I look great that I have lost some weight. But, after telling them thanks for noticing, I would tell them that I haven't lost a pound because I always lose inches first before the weight comes off. It is the hardest part of exercising, but muscle outweighs fat. You will get to where you want to be, just keep going!
Two things that I have been doing in the past year, because I can't exercise as much due to medical, is I eliminated all junk food and fatty food (ham, cold cuts, sausage). The other thing is I have started eating less. Yes, occasionally I do fall off the wagon, but I know that I can pick myself back up.
Since July 2019, when I was nearly 250 lbs, I have lost 35 lbs. Yes, I recently fell off the wagon, but I feel that I am going to get back to it once all the junk food is gone. I also know that I can save most of it till the next time I have a craving, especially the chocolate and potato chips. It is all about balance.
Also I am not a doctor, but if you can, get blood work done to make sure your body is working the way it is supposed to. Some women of our size have thyroid issues that keep us from reaching our goals. I don't want you to get discouraged because of medical issues, but rather have it empower you to eat the correct foods that will help you in your journey. Good luck and keep moving, your going to reach your goal!

These things helped me during weight loss journey -
    1. Eating locally available food.
    2. Snacking on less processed food eg: fruits over fruit juice. Nuts over granola bar.
    3. Eating slowly, chewing properly and engaging all 5 senses (eating meals w/o gadgets like TV, cellphone). This makes you feel satiated.
    4. Meditation - train your brain. This has helped me reduce junk food cravings. :)

Just found this video so “thank you” for taking the risk that many of us need. I finally reached my personal point where I knew I couldn’t gain any more weight and had to something. For me, I set a daily calorie goal, drastically cut carbs - anything white is OUT plus many other of my favorites, and started walking. Just a mile the first couple of days, then a mile and a half, now about 2 miles. My goal was 30 minutes of walking at a brisk pace not so much how far I walk. Anyhow, I ramble. My point was, your weight gain (and mine) could mean we are gaining some muscle after all these years! That is GOOD and will lead us to leaner and stronger bodies. We just have to keep our minds and our will strong. Forgive yourself if you waiver, but get back on track. Not for anyone watching your videos...we all know where you are coming from and face the same demons...but for YOU. You aren’t giving any of us info we haven’t heard before in some article, program, blog or video. You are allowing us into your world to help us work out our issues in ours. Seriously, that’s special, so thank you.

Hello Holly! I am a nutritionist. I have my own practice in Senegal. I enjoy your overall energy as well as your workouts. I suggest that you not focus so much on your weight but more on your body measurements (waist, abdomen, hips, breasts etc.). Every centimeter you loose around your waist is the equivalent to a kilo or 2 lbs fat loss, regardless of what the scale reads. And instead of having a weight goal, you should have a dress size goal. Every dress size you lose is about a 10lb fat loss, regardless of what the scale indicates. I actually tell my patients to stop weighing themselves because their weight very often does not reflect their body composition. I wish you the best on your journey.

In Weight Watchers which I have been doing for 2 years now (and over a 100 lb weight loss) we call them non scale victories (NSV's). Measurements are a far better way to judge progress. I don't agree on dress size since at least in the US (where I am) dress sizes can vary wildly from one manufacturer to another. It is super important not to obsess over what the scale says.

I just found your channel and I thank God that I did. I have been on the same up and down journey most of my life. It is so refreshing to see a real person who can not only give you exercises that a plus size person can do, but can fully understand how our emotions can either be our best friend or our worse enemy. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to follow an exercise video where all you see is a group of size 2 people doing exercises that you as a heavy person can’t possibly do. Thank you, thank you, thank you for having the courage to put these videos out there for those of us who want to be fit and healthy and now have another tool to add to our weight loss journey. You have motivated me to move. As far as diet I watch what I eat in a days. Stephanie Macedo, her sister Amy Macedo and Alexis Sparks are amazing. Real food a balanced diet. A lot of people say ditch the scale and bring out the measuring tape. You can gain pounds and loose inches. I just want to say thank you for posting these work out videos. I just did my first workout with you and then watched this right after. I woke up this morning feeling achy and so sad about myself. But I decided to scroll UA-cam and look for a fitness video for someone who can't do fitness videos. I got into a right sweat and there were some moves I couldn't do at all... I'm bigger than you. But YOU are so brave! I'm not shy of posting progress online, but I know that once I do... people are expecting success and the failures are so shameful that I quit everything. That's my past anyway. I still couldn't do what you do online but I praise you for doing it. YOU ALREADY ARE INSPIRING and your weakness and honesty make you someone I feel I know, trust and want tonget on board with. Hi Holly. So, I just saw your video and I must say that you are an inspiration. So don't stress about that. You are truly an inspiration.
I'm also a 'big girl' and started my weight loss journey 1st April 2020. My starting weight was 251lbs but now at 220lbs. You coming out to speak about your struggles with weight loss and sharing your journey is a kind gesture that should be appreciated. So, I just want to let you know that you're not in this alone we are all out here with you.
Being 30lbs down has come with hurdles of which I have reset my mind to conquer. So, I just motivate myself to keep going.
I came to notice in the course of this journey that I needed a long-term goal and fix short term goals around it. Therefore, what I did was take statistics of the amount of weight in general I needed to lose and I set a realistic time frame around it so I don't feel that pressure that would make me rebound. Because of that my target for every month is to lose 8lbs in a year and 2 months. And I hop on the scale only monthly. I assess my progress by my clothes fitting and my physical and mental feelings.
I would encourage you ditch hopping on the scale weekly, keep doing the right thing (right diet, exercise and rest) and your results would be imminent. Your body gets comfortable when you hit a plateau, so you'd know. In such situations, just intensify your workout routine with tabata trainings or do something different entirely. Basically, I think the focus should be making everything realistic (your overall target weight and the time frame to achieve it). For instance, I'm losing way more than my monthly target. So it just keeps the pressure off. Plus, I heard mention working out every day? Girl! One important factor to weight loss is giving your body time to rest and recover from work outs. You can take out a day in a week to rest from work outs.
So girl, just keep on and enjoy the ourney all the way. One love sis.
P.S: I am from Nigeria and I love you.

I stopped mid-video to just say that I'm 5'2 and 240 lbs, and it seems that every time I start exercising I don't even lose weight, but when I quit I gain even more weight. I've finally came to the realization that the most important thing is that I move my body. Having said all of that, your channel is why I finally have the motivation to start moving my body again. I'm so tired and feel so awful, and so I needed some motivation. So just know I appreciate what you've done here, and while I hope you reach your weight loss goals, it doesn't matter to me one way or the other. The idea of you losing weight isn't what motivates me, the support from a fellow fattie *giggles* is what motivates me. I know you said you, "want to be an inspiration" so i am here to tell you that you are! I have discovered that I have horrible gym anxiety (if that's a real thing) and so i looked around for workout videos to help me lose weight. I couldn't find anyone i wanted to follow except you. For the reason that you're in your journey and you're taking me with you. I am so happy to have found you. ❤ i just have to make myself do it every day!

Thank you for sharing real-life feelings. You cannot control what other people feel. Simply saying how you feel when you get up in the morning is motivating. If something is causing a negative feeling then change to focus only on positive ones. I can't wait to see your other videos. Doing things one day at a time is all we can ever do in life. Yes, it is very difficult. I appreciate you so much.

Hi Holly 💘 thank you for opening up like this. Im on a journey to lose weight too and ONE of the hardest parts is not drinking alcohol. Or at least not drinking everyday like I was. My doctor constantly tells me this is a change in your whole lifestye. Thats fine, its just tiring day in and day out counting calories and so forth. Anyway, I had to comment because your videos are very encouraging. Ive battled my weight all my life and it continues. Bless you for sharing

Holly you ROCK!🦋✌😎 So transparent so real. Fitness is important keep it up! I've had trouble with my weight for entire adult life. Something that I have been doing that is off the beaten path in the last few weeks that has really been helping me is listening to weight loss subliminals/hypnosis here on UA-cam there are several. I've also started to do Japanese breathing and the practice of sitting on the floor to eat. All of which are supposed to Aid with weight loss and I'm seeing results! I'm also listening to subliminals on self-love, and healing from trauma. I believe them to be all connected and again I am seeing results. The gentleman I listen to most often is Thomas Hall. There are others. At any rate don't give up (I know you won't) and I know that you'll make it. You're an inspiration to many people.🌴✌🌞

When you’re body figures out what you’re doing it plateaus. Keep pushing and increase your protein and reduce your carbs. Muscle weighs more than fat so pay more attn to how your clothes fit. You’re doing yourself a great favor by getting healthy and taking us with you is a bonus for us! I have osteoarthritis ontop of a bone disease in my knees so this is the only thing I’ve found that doesn’t hurt. I could always lose weight easily but now I’m old and my body doesn’t work the same. A fake person doesn’t worry about being fake. And you respond to comments which is also awesome. KEEP GOING! We need you!

I just discovered you in my feed yesterday. You are inspiring. I have always avoided going to the gym and being next to those skinny women. Life is stressful, being open with people is stressful, and you just need to keep trying. Every time I falter, I remember I am better than I was last year. You are not a fraud. Weight loss is HARD! You are trying to get healthier for yourself and your family, which is infinitely more important than what size you are.

I just found your channel yesterday. I have the same problem. I have plateaued in weight for at least the last month and it makes me so sad even though my husband swears I’m getting smaller. You are so real and it’s so great. We will get there!

I lost 25 pounds last year by doing workouts and changing my diet. Then later on I threw my back out so badly I was having muscle spasms that took 6 weeks to get rid of. I couldn't workout, couldn't even take my dogs for a walk and I resorted to my favorite comfort foods and gained some of the weight back. I was so angry I cried. Every time I think I'm doing better, I over do it because I'm not that ready and I'm so hell bent on getting back to where I was. It really is a struggle. I just started your workouts and they help make sure I don't put too much of a strain on myself. Thank you for posting your videos! Stay strong!

Dont put so much pressure on yourself. I haven't gotten weighed in a year. I just do the best i can. Its not about being good or bad. But just relaxing moving my body mist everyday. Not binging ect. I cant let the scales tell me if i can be happy . Holly you are good enough!

Holly - thanks for this video, the honesty, the companionship on the journey. It is important for me that I know I am not alone on this journey of trying to do my best and the scales do not move. Very grateful...knowing I have companions on this journey is inspiration for me to continue on.
