Dreadlocks means a life dedicated to spirituality why are you censoring my comment... Haft breed Oreo working for Satan trying to take something at sacred and make it into some kind of product or something political something rebellious and mean spirituality and you're not going to change that coming to Jamaica with this b*******
I use to tell my husband cut your loss, cut your loss, he's been growing his for 8 years very thick, very long. I could understand why he wouldn't cuz he would complain its to heavy etc. Until I started my journey I got it, I understood why he didn't want too. My loc's are my journey I started to show myself some patience and growth.
Let me try and break down the down the argument or discussion of “Dreadlocks vs Locs” .. Many people argue that we shouldn’t call our Locs “Dreadlocks” because supposedly thats what the white people called our hair and “our hair is not dreadful” but what people fail to realize is the reason why they/we call them dreadlocks.. The Mau Mau warriors of Kenya called their hair “Dreadlocks”(they were freeform) . It was a compliment that you and your hair was so dreadful that it was putting FEAR into the oppressors .. Rastas looked at what the Mau Mau Warriors did and picked up that same philosophy... Perhaps thts where white people got the name from, From us! but alot of us black folks dont know the history so we look at the term in a bad way but its really not , its a term of rebellion... Like you said Bob Marley said “Buffalo Soldier, Dreadlock Rasta” .. Even Chronixx named his whole album “Dread & Terrible” ... Knowing the history would make you even more proud of being a DREAD. 💯 ps: Look up documentaries on the Mau Mau warriors, Interesting stuff really.
I've also heard from Rastas that when you are in the bush the dreadlocks make animals scared of you, like a lion's mane, also so they keep you safe in a natural habitat 💪🏾
It's just a part of rasta culture, when the term was coined in Jamaica it didn't have any negative meaning the bob marley sang "ride natty ride" and "Buffalo soldier" the name stuck
I agree on the roots of the word dreadlocks but why do you have to say "white people got the name from us"? There is no us and them. We are one family. No matter what skincolour. And people got dreads in many cultures it does not belong to one culture or "race" which does not exist in the first place.
Saying it's just hair to me is like saying it's just a arm or just my nose or just my toe NO nature made me perfect with my hair able to grow so that's another part of me just as important as the rest of me
What was your favorite part of this conversation?
@Haitian Boi thanks g ✊🏾
