To those that are complaining: it is really difficult to excel physically after certain age, especially if you started later in life. For older men karate means more of a struggle against your own physical limitations rather than achieving technical excellence. I believe that's what you are graded on in the JKA and similar orgs: how you deal with the limitations imposed on you by father time. Otherwise, only young people, capable of impeccable physical technique would be able to be graded above nidan.
NOPE! If you CAN'T meet the bare minimum physical requirements...then you fail PERIOD. No matter your age! People who begin Karate long after their physical primes should have NO EXPECTATION of ever receiving their blackbelts! And they SHOULD NOT be given. This is about $$$$$.
This is really bad! I'm part of the JKA, although not this particular group, and I can say that there are definitely people like this, but most aren't allowed to test. Politics and money rule ;-)
This is why I left the ISKF and the JKA! Standards have slipped so far since the late 90s. I flunked my Shodan test twice in the 80s and with ALL HONESTY I can say both attempts were far better than Anything seen in these exams!!! TERRIBLE!
I just wanted to see an example of JKA dan test, because i never went in that organisation. I don t judge the guys on the video, for respect, and this is not my purpose in watching it. But i just see, that looks like that JKA is like all organisations : not better, not worse. I don t see the educativ vertues of that kihon if that is a dan test > 2. If this is dan test < 3 or 4, what a strange idea to ask the guy to perform Hangetsu? Do you know what dan test it is? It would help me better understand what we see here.

When i realize how exigent they are with us in Haiti, the would't have graded even 3rd kyu!
