I agree with the fact that Kate Winslet's better performance this year was undoubtly in Revolutionary Road, instead of the Reader. I actually like the presentation of the actor Oscars. It was interesting to watch and listen, and nice to see 5 previous winners assembled.
@shaggyalonso as a convincing character, the wrestler himself was excellent. But, I think Rourke deserves less credit because that character is basically him in real life, so it wasn't really a stretch. hence i think an oscar is too generous. Do you reckon that's fair? Or is it just all about the character independent of the actor playing them to you? Hope I'm not about to be barraged by youtube anger :S
I don't think he's hating and I agree. They NEVER recognise acting in sci-fi/fantasy/action films. The fact that Ledgers performance is one of the all time greatest film performances is irrelevant. If he had not have died then it would not have been considered because thats the fucked up way that the Academy is.
@BigBoss7777777 Harsh. And I disagree. TDK is by no means the cinematic perfection the buzz said it was, but Ledger's Joker stands among the great movie psychopaths.
Duh, finally someone gets that Kate Winslet was great in Revolutionary Road, not in a crap movie like Reader. I'm a bit sad that WALTZ WITH BASHIR didn't get best foreign film.
Oh for fuck sake this reminds me of how annoyed I was by Mickey Rourke not getting best actor. Haven't seen MIlk but it must have been one hell of a performance by Sean Penn to be better than Rourke's in the Wrestler.
Um, you're not arguing with a Lemurian about something movie related I hope? That would be very foolish. Slumdog's much deserved win needs no further comment or discussion. Don't reply or I will send giraffes!
The black fade outs make this more comical than it should be.
love the person in the background eating 1:10 wish i could eat at my desk
6:04 "NERROOROARWARGH"
I was thinking that too...
Brilliant again from Kermode
Spot on. On all accounts. Cheers.
Thank you. 100% Correct
It won best picture, I think it merits an acknowledgment.

@whbuckeye33
No it was Sean Penn
This is the review of the 2009.
Bridges won in 2010.
I love what Mark says about Ledger - it’s sad that it was considered a sympathy vote - he just was that good
he's done better performances than TDK. he should have got an oscar for "Candy"

"Here are the nominees...four of you lost"
Sooooo.....Why the hell didn't Kermode talk about Slumdog Millionaire?
Because it won and deserved too. No problem, no discussion.
He has the power to create enough time to prepare.
it was.
Yeah, but everyone predicted that the Academy wouldn't give two shits about a superhero movie, even if it's possibly deeper than those other movies.

These are Lemurian giraffes...it's your funeral

Mark's hair looks less well-gelled together than usual.
I love giraffes. Send em' on over!
It's not. Kermode is right. Its a fine performance in an average movie. Rourke was exceptional.

"So .... " Aarrgh!
You clearly didn't even watch this video did you otherwise you would have known how wrong you were. Why comment on a video you didn't watch?
Happened again with Leo in The Revenant - right actor, wrong film
I genuinely thought The Departed was just good - not in any way great or even very good, just quite good
There is simply no way Ledger would've even been NOMINATED let alone win the damn thing if he was still alive.
