  • If you can hear the motor or the mast is moving there is hope. AND it may be something simple. Lube kit: mercedessource.com/store/sear.... Antenna parts: mercedessource.com/store/sear...

    Fantastic!
Probably would have sold my '71 280 SE/ '89 300CE if it weren't for you, Kent. Now I've got 50 years of ownership, & enjoying knowing how to maintain them.
    Thanks for your help.

I keep my 380sl lubed with Kent’s lube kit, including the antenna mast. Just this weekend I noticed the mast was starting to stick just a split second when retracting. A quick application of the antenna lube and now it’s running smoothly again.

My father bought 2 w123's. A 240D in '83 that he traded in for a 300CD in '85. I remember they both had a power antennas, each car came from the factory will a "Special lubricated power antenna cleaning cloth" from the factory.

Thanks for all your videos Kent. Learnt a lot of useful things and really enjoy seeing all the old W123s which I remember from my childhood. Remember my dad had a 300TD which could not be turned off on the key - after watching your videos I know why!

I didn’t expect this to be as rewarding when I fixed this on my w124. Ridiculously so.

I have to laugh when I watch this video because you remind me of myself. Sometimes I say I'm going to deal with the problem in depth at a later date, then a few minutes later I go back to it. I keep trying until I figure it out. lol
    Good job Kent

Would this work for a stuck power antenna on a 1980s Cadillac as well?

I got a antenna installed, but now she drained the battery after a day. Battery is brand new. I'd say either a new power antenna, or a complete disconnect. Any suggestions please 🙄 thanks 😩

After watching your video I took a second crack at the antenna on my 85' 380.
The problem, the antenna only extends 10 inches or so, but will fully close when the radio is off. It used to work fine last year. I am using a replacement antenna who's tail is a 1/2 inch shorter than the original.
I pulled everything out, opened it, thoroughly cleaned out all of the original grease and re lubricated it and verified nothing was broken or broken off in the spool.
No change at all after putting it all back together.
Luckily I do not listen to the radio when the top is down but I do want to get it fixed for this fall.
I still have the original antenna which I changed out after opening it up last year to check if anything was broken.
    Any ideas for next time?

Have you checked the switch on the dash for raising and lowering the antenna. Maybe a switch or wiring contact problem between the switch and the antenna.

Hi, Kent. The antenna on my w124 extends and retracts fully, but after extending the motor keeps running for a few seconds and makes a loud grinding noise. The antenna retracts just fine. Any idea what the problem might be???

Mine goes up maybe a quarter of the way and then starts clicking until it thinks its at the top then when i bring it down it goes all the way down but once seated it clicks until the motor thinks it brought it all the way down. Super annoying because i can't get any radio signal

80 percent chance installing a new antenna mast will fix your problem.

Ha, ha , ha, you say. What a nice feeling when you solve a problem, I know. How frustrating when you own a classic benz and the d___ antenna stops rolling down. What price we pay in our modern world when technology is supposed to make life easier.
