public services should be run at their maximum efficiency possible no matter the cost. trying to run public services like a business, worrying about the profit and loss of a public organisation defeats the purpose of it. the purpose is to provide the service as best as possible because it is deemed a right of every citizen. there is no danger to the state taking a loss on a public service when it is has it's own sovereign currency, it is not a private company, it has no need for profit, it can create as much money as is ever needed to run it's public service. there is no loss for the government with sovereign currency, it's just a game theyre playing as if theyre part of the private market. MMT describes this
So what now ? Royal Mail prices are up ? and Royal Mail sorting offices and Parcel drop off shops closing down ? I think it's to do with this Czech guy wanting data to sell onto foreign actors names, addresses, who is sending what where and what volume.

My local post office was closed and turned into a betting shop. All we have in town now is a poky desk at the back a convenience shop which is not fit for purpose.
@ what do you want? Email to not exist? Post office is a private service and business. They can’t keep a big branch open with other services out there and less letters.
If they are so concerened that the letters are a failing business now, they should hand it to another provider. I guess noone will take it as its not profitable and causes yearly backlash.
Even if they deliver letters every other day, there is still the same volume of letters and a postman can only carry and deliver so many in a day. And what are they going to do with the processing equipment the rest of the time? Rent it out?
Delivery points become a manageable number, while the letter numbers increase, therefore it's easier work for the postman, whilst being more financially sustainable. The issue is the regulator and the CWU. Reduced deliver days will not result in a loss of jobs either, RM is short staffed nationally. Increased service quality will result in higher parcel numbers, further securing jobs.

Royal Mail is not a conventional business it is actually a service that effectively means it has a Act of Parliament of its own its also largely owned by the crown hence the word Royal in the name so the actual Parliament Act will effectively protect it and keep the letters delivery as part of the service that Royal Mail are obliged to offer along with the national network of post offices throughout the nation.
The Royal Mail was founded by the Crown but was taken over by Parliament after they executed King Charles I & established a short-lived Republic. They never gave the Service back to the Crown when they re-established the Monarchy in 1660.
@alanhat5252 railways are franchised to a private company but the infrastructure is in public ownership so again still govt owned. Canals we're privately owned once but have been in uk for so long the govt let them go to ruin. They were only brought back into life by enthusiasts from the 1950s who dug them out and reused them but needed funding to do so so the canal trusts effectively did this to raise money for maintenance but they still come under environment agency govenance so are like a hybrid. The canals aren't vital to the running of the nation though. Also where Is the name Royal written on the railways and where is it written on any canal?
@alanhat5252 it still bears the monarchs head on all stamps and has done since the first penny black stamp just as the money notes do so effectively it is still owned by the Crown as is all the money notes in the uk..the money notes aren't owned by Parliament they are assets of the crown. As for your claim that the post office isn't controlled by the govt it is actually written unto the Parliament act of 2011 that the govt although actually only own 13% of Post office they retain the legal right over what it can and can't do effectively making Royal Mail a franchise like the Railways are a Francise that is controlled by the govt of the day which answered to the Monarch of the day. After all the Govts full title is His Majesty's Govt. For the Govt to work in the uk the King has to give permission for each Govt to form and each PM has to formally ask him to form a govt before the state opening of Parliament is carried out after each election. The king also is required by law to close the Parliament once every five yrs to elect a new govt so ultimately the Monarchy still runs the UK but through an elected vote by the people for their representation in Westminster effectively making the UK a Constitutional Monarchy with the Monarch sitting at the top of the tree then the Govt then the people. Why do you think the armed forces swear allegiance to the King or Queen of the day? Because if the Monarchy decides he can order the armed services to war or to forcibly close Parliament if required ! It is effectively a UK UK safety mechanism to stop a dictatorial pm or govt
DON'T BE DAFT that died in 2004 when the mail trains ended, the rest is just collateral since, funny how labour wanted public services and don't mind selling off the oldest one

Those people should be heavily fined or even arrested for putting posties at risk
The internet has meant that fewer people are posting letters, but it has also meant that more people are ordering online and so sending parcels. So why the failing business?
Even that is a bit of a myth. Sure, people weren't sending their own personal letters, but loads of companies were still sending stuff, especially advertising material. I worked there from 2008 up to 2019, and not once did I ever see volume drop. In fact it got heavier, as the parcels piled up and forced everyone into shared van routes. As for parcel competitiveness, they just can't cope with how other companies do it with track and trace things. Unlike Amazon they can't cope with the strain of mass next day delivery. Posties don't logically have the time to take pictures of parcels being delivered, don't have time to get 100 signatures a day, or to drop them off at neighbours... they've got 700 other houses to deliver mail to as well on a 5 hour duty. I almost laughed when they introduced the idea of also picking up collections from customers on their route too. Management are absolutely clueless as to what the job physically entails
The Royal Mail was running for well over a century before it was opened up to the Public by Charles I in 1635. Mail volumes have increased every year since.
@@nathanaelsmith3553 Its fairly simple: Letter volumes are dropping and parcel volumes are going up. However the delivery points are increasing with every property built. They create walks that are unmanageble. They lose about £1m a day on letter deliveries, when they tried to get to change the USO to at least half the loss by not delivering every day the govnmt said no. They cant take on more parcel as its also having to deliver the USO. The letters are killing it. whatever profit they would have off parcels they are being delivered late.
The difference between the railways and letter delivery is that the latter is in terminal decline. Are we really going to nationalise the business so people can send greeting cards and for the NHS to stay stuck in the 20th century?
Ironically the railway companies are owned by other countries, two (France and Germany) have nationalised railways. The other fun fact is the private railways enjoyed more taxpayers money as subsidies than the old BR did in its entire lifespan since WW2.
Yet again this Labour government is proving its tory credential. How can it be called Royal Mail, then again the British royal family is really german.

The public are actually keeping the postal service running. The amount of letters they get is ridiculous in this day and age when everything is digital. The amount of people that get 3 to 5 letters per day, virtually every single day of the year is astonishing. What information do these people need every single day? Charles I was not 500 years ago. "Charls the man of bloud whose head is cut off" described the event of 30th January, 1649. That'll be 376 years ago in a few weeks. The Diggers launched themselves the following April. We celebrated their 350th anniversary in 1999.

That will extend austerity, and English are already griping about the Labour government trying to level the books , and they havent been in office for a year.
They prefer everything to fail under Tory leadership, because they think that Brityian will be like the 1950's or some olden years which I dont remeber in my lifetime and Im 60 next year.
Did you vote for Corbyn's Labour or the Greens? If you didn't you don't believe your own words.
public services should be run at their maximum efficiency possible no matter the cost. trying to run public services like a business, worrying about the profit and loss of a public organisation defeats the purpose of it. the purpose is to provide the service as best as possible because it is deemed a right of every citizen. there is no danger to the state taking a loss on a public service when it is has it's own sovereign currency, it is not a private company, it has no need for profit, it can create as much money as is ever needed to run it's public service. there is no loss for the government with sovereign currency, it's just a game theyre playing as if theyre part of the private market. MMT describes this
So what now ? Royal Mail prices are up ? and Royal Mail sorting offices and Parcel drop off shops closing down ? I think it's to do with this Czech guy wanting data to sell onto foreign actors names, addresses, who is sending what where and what volume.
LOL this guy doesn't care about the average Joe. He just takes the parts of the company that have value, separates them into another entity and sells them off and the rest goes bankrupt. He has plundered a number of businesses this way in the past.
@@Dqtube Oh, ok so he's an asset stripper but he has to bide his time as he'll be on some fixed term agreement to not do that, so expect it to happen in 5 years time or so according to the agreement or see him bending the rules so that he can sell parts off that fall under the grey areas of the law and the contract agreement. I'm also concerned about data confidentiality with tracking shipments from companies etc and selling that on to competitors.
@@Dqtube Yep, I.e the property. Royal Mail owns probably Billions of pounds worth of property. He will sell them to EP through some loophole, and then rent them back to Royal Mail. By the time Royal Mail (if ever, though it should be now) becomes renationalised, the tax payer will be paying him rent to get our infrastructure back. Well Done Britain. A country's postal service is just that, a service. It's a public service designed to run without loss. Not to make profit. Why do we sit down. Henry VIII started Royal Mail 5 hundred years ago. I wonder how many heads would be chopped if he were resurrected...

@@jccj123Henry VIII's service was solely for himself & his Court, Charles I opened the Service to the Public in 1635.
Royal Mail service acts like it’s 1994 not 2024
My local post office was closed and turned into a betting shop. All we have in town now is a poky desk at the back a convenience shop which is not fit for purpose.
@ what do you want? Email to not exist? Post office is a private service and business. They can’t keep a big branch open with other services out there and less letters.
You are correct mail delivery is a social right, well said😊
If they are so concerened that the letters are a failing business now, they should hand it to another provider.
Another thing Jeremy Corbyn warned us about, but we thought he was the crazy one😮 the NHS is next.
@@waynesimon2425 Why do you think they were worried about Corbyn. Talking sense wouldn't have made money for lots of them. Privatisation did for some. Only some. Shareholders looked after.

I can also hear Harold McMillan’s “Family Silver” speech about the Milk Snatcher’s policies when she was PM replaying in my head.
Except this time the family silver has been sold on to the Russian Mafia
The CWU union helped this to happen every step of the way.
Yes it will be only parcel service
It'll be whatever harvests the most data
It will be whatever the Law says it will be, even if Parliament has to resume running the Service.
You need to look at the basic problem is that sending letters is falling fast. The future with Royal Mail must be in parcels. They need to compete with parcel delivery companies.
“Fast” being less than 1% on last year. Cards up this year. Don’t believe every figure they put out
Joke of a company you can see what direction its heading and they r systematically running it that way on purpose it'll be unrecognisable in about 4 years from the board to local management just totally inadequate n incompetent
Surely when Royal Mail was owned by the public the NHS, councils, the police (all public services) could send letters for free. As RM is now privatised how much is the NHS forking out each year to send letters?
Funny how all da shiite comes out of tax payers money but still da governments make a healthy bonus each year.
Just send email.
@@kb4903 Emails are easier to intercept compared to physical mail. It's much more difficult to scam someone when they know that HMRC, NHS etc only correspond by letter
Royal mail is already privatised though?
It should be bought back by the government though, it's literally a vital service.
He doesn’t ever speak? His autobiographer must have been riveted.
“So…. Why do they call you sphinx?
“…….”
“Oh, so that’s for ME to work out… like a… riddle…” 🤯
Royal Mail is not a conventional business it is actually a service that effectively means it has a Act of Parliament of its own its also largely owned by the crown hence the word Royal in the name so the actual Parliament Act will effectively protect it and keep the letters delivery as part of the service that Royal Mail are obliged to offer along with the national network of post offices throughout the nation.
The Royal Mail was founded by the Crown but was taken over by Parliament after they executed King Charles I & established a short-lived Republic. They never gave the Service back to the Crown when they re-established the Monarchy in 1660.
Railway lines & canals also require Acts of Parliament but they're privatized. 😢
It has already been scaled back.

that died in 2004 when the mail trains ended, the rest is just collateral since, funny how labour wanted public services and don't mind selling off the oldest one
The moneys in parcels not letters , letters could be renationalised.
true but noone would want to take them on, its a non-profitable venue, with too many delivery points and people moaning if they miss a letter by 1 day!
Tax agent who rely on it to send certain stuff to HMRC

Of course it is you won’t be able to call it Royal Mail anymore
It is the same cost to send a card from Penzance to Inverness then Bristol to Inverness 1.65 first class stamp.
This should be changed.
No, the 1839 unification of prices resolved a horrendous & expensive mess of different charges.
@alanhat5252 It is loss making to fund a business where there is one set price for cards or anything below 25cm, regardless of location.
@@olliecooper4232 it's a _service_ not a business. Its purpose is to deliver mail not to turn a profit.
A great tragedy.
@@bladechild2449 So plenty of business to be had then. Vulture capitalism at its finest.
I can't see this new guy being any good running royal mail he will run it into the ground and take all the money another Robert Maxwell 😂
this will "never" happen to NHS,,, no no
The difference between the railways and letter delivery is that the latter is in terminal decline.
All Public Services & all businesses use the Mail, it's more reliable & less easily intercepted than electronic communications.
Yet again this Labour government is proving its tory credential. How can it be called Royal Mail, then again the British royal family is really german.

Royal Mail's headquarters, tax base, and corporate structure will remain British for five years under the "legally binding" agreement.

The public are actually keeping the postal service running. The amount of letters they get is ridiculous in this day and age when everything is digital. The amount of people that get 3 to 5 letters per day, virtually every single day of the year is astonishing. What information do these people need every single day? I personally only get 1 letter per month and typically I don't even need that. If all these people, typically aged 60+ actually bothered to go digital, then the postal service would die off pretty quickly. Once that boomer generation dies off then post will be dead.
